My wife and I went there on a Friday night. I had heard about Mortimer’s for years but we had never been. Everything we had was excellent. We were very impressed. Steak was cooked perfectly, Chicken Beauregard was excellent, appetizer was great, bread was great, dessert was wonderful. We later learned that they make everything fresh in house including their own butter. Highly recommend a visit. We will be back.

I just love Mortimer’s! We go after work, sit at the bar, and always order the oysters-on-the-half shell, mushrooms, and one other app for our meal. The food is always great, and the bartender is always spot on! If you are looking for a great after work place to meet and great, or to just unwind and have a cocktail and great appetizer, this is the place!!! Absolutely LOVE Mortimer’s!!!

Went to Mort’s because I saw a tweet about their .60 oysters. The oysters were good as was the rest of the meal. It’s pretty nice and looks like it’s definitely a neighborhood place. Customers and staff were equally enjoyable to be around. If you’re in this area of Memphis give them a try…

Been going here from time to time over the years. They have daily specials you can check on the website or Facebook. Food is normally very good. Had the salmon tonight and it was very good. Cooked just right. Bar tender, Mark was excellent. He was always on spot with topping your water or refilling your drink. Great very casual atmosphere any day of the week. Would have liked a little more dill sauce with the salmon but why complain when it’s cooked to perfection.

Mark makes the best martini! He gets that it’s all about having a good time, too! Prime rib sandwich, cheeseburger, and jambalaya are amazing! I do wish they had more green sides.

Oyster night. Gotta knock off a star for the limit of 2 dozen. Good happy hour. The porch is nice, especially on this evening. Having been here several times before, you can not beat the oyster burger. Very rich and filling. 60 cent oysters? Gotta up their limit!

Mortimer’s is a hidden gem in the neighborhood to the right of Sam Cooper and the Perkins exit. It is owned by the family that used to own the Knickerbocker, and I believe they are related to someone from Big Star, hence the fabulous Big Star memorabilia. On my visit last week for Prime Rib Monday, you can tell that there are regulars. Though I hadn’t been in years, I ran into several friends from different areas of my lift. The décor resembles a pub turned restaurant with dark wood and low lighting in the bar area. Service was friendly and attentive. Our waitress encouraged us to place our order rather quickly to get in ahead of a very large party seated across the room from us. We appreciated her counsel. Our salads came out quickly and were fresh and a nice size. Given the fact that we were taking advantage of the Prime Rib, we shouldn’t have ordered an appetizer, but we did. The lure of fried pickles was too much to resist. We should have resisted. The batter was too thick for our taste. The Prime Rib was a generous portion served at the requested temperatures. Our selected side was a loaded baked potato. The prime rib came with a side of au jus and horseradish cream sauce. Both completed the meat and the potato skin very well. The wine list is fairly limited. They carry a full compliment of local beers and national brands. There is also a full bar available. Check their website for different featured nights like 60 cent oysters and all you can eat crab legs among others.

Mortimer’s is a great restaurant. I’ve never had bad food there, although once I discovered the stuffed burger, I don’t eat anything else. The stuffed burger is my favorite item on the menu. The salads are good too. My only complaint is that the chairs are super uncomfortable. So I always want to eat and leave as soon as possible.

Get the lunch special, with veggies Or try their house burger. Awesome! quiet country atmosphere which makes You feel right at home. The burgers are not your«run of the mill» type but rather done by an artist with a passion for perfection. Gotta go!

This is a neighborhood bar, and doesn’t try to be anything else. The service has been good every time I’ve been, the food more than a little uneven. I’ve had the Nachos,(OK) the oysters,(fine, although I’m told you have to be careful of grit by regulars) and the ribeye, which was dreadful. The fries had been re-heated at least once, and the steak tasted like a full day’s worth of char.(I had the steak after 8PM). I couldn’t finish the steak or the fries — took them home in hopes of eating later, but they were simply too awful on the reheat to even look at. I’d gone on a Monday hoping for the Prime Rib, but they had run out by 7PM. So as a place for a few cocktails on the patio, or for friendly folk at the bar, it’s fine. To eat there … I’ll pass.

We came for the crab legs and left still hungry and very disappointed. The crab was so over cooked that it was just mush. You couldn’t get the meat out of the shell. The corn was so over cooked it was hard. Don’t waste your money or time. The manager came over and was just clueless, we mentioned it to him and he looked like he had no clue what we were talking about. Seriously… don’t waste the money!!!

Fun place. The other reviews are dead on, but it is a great place with a cool(though old) atmosphere! If you’re into finding a hole in the walk, this is a good one.

The only reason I am giving this place two stars is because our waitress was sweet and the rolls were amazing. Other than that, I wasn’t impressed. We went on Sunday night for crab legs, and they were absolutely horrible. My husband actually didn’t eat the last couple legs because they were bad and brown. Oh well. They all can’t be winners.

The Mort Burger. Do I need to say more? We had a nice server(Eddie) and talked with others at the bar. Nice crowd. No room for dessert this time. Will have to come back for oysters & crab legs. The only negative, would like a few more onion rings or big jumbo rings.

Mortimer’s is a great place to stop after work and grab a cold adult beverage and some snacks. It reminds me of Cheers. Many times, the bar seating is maxed out. A lot of regulars here, and, I can see why. It’s a comfortable atmosphere, great drinks, and I really like their appetizers. I’ve had a few items from the main menu, but I tend to wander towards the apps. Best fried mushrooms in town, hand dipped and you can tell. Oysters are pretty good, but, their cocktail sauce & horseradish is excellent. .60c oysters also on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Finally, try their app specials such as tamales w/chili, pretty good, and by all means, don’t forget their gumbo. Some of the best in town.

Not too impressed with the food or service. Took forever to get our drinks and once we got our food it wasn’t that great. Atmosphere was great but that’s about all. My side items tasted like they were made 3 days ago.

The last time I ate at Mortimer’s was about 7 or 8 months ago. I ordered chicken fried steak. I was the only one in the dining room. My server was quick to bring me a large piece of cold, hard something that had an ice cream scoop of congealed stuff on it. I couldn’t even cut the meat with a serrated steak knife. My server never returned to check on me, so after waiting about 15 mins, I gave up and paid the bill and left. Then I went to Tops and got a burger. I’ve read that their burgers are wunderbuss, but I guess I’ll never know. I used to go to the Knickerbocker way back when, and it’s sad to see Mortimer’s owner(the daughter of The Knickerbocker owner) let this piece of Memphis culinary history go down the tubes in disgrace.

Ate here a week or so ago and we ordered the rib eye steaks. Toughest rib eye I’ve ever eaten in my life, full of gristle as was the other persons. We told the waitress but no one came out to express concern at all. I like Mortimers but this wasn’t handled properly. I will go back sometime but will be reluctant to ever try the steak again.

Recently I have been enjoying some of the special offers at Mortimer’s. 40 cent oysters on Tuesday and Saturday evenings. The oysters are always fresh and delicious. Sunday we went for all you can eat crab legs. The crab legs were served with a side salad, fresh rolls, corn on the cob and a buttery new potato. All for $ 24.99. The legs were cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. Now I must return on a Monday for the prime rib special. Mortimer’s offers great food every night of the week. Ask for Kevin for great service also.
