Strange Cargo

A tourist place, yes, but it actually has some pretty cool stuff in it, more higher end than some of the other stores around. It does have some absolutely strange things in it, but in a good strange kind of way. Something that you won’t find anywhere else, and something that will give you some laughs as well as good memories.

Limited supply and what they have is overpriced even for the area. There are only a one or two good places on beale st to get some tourist crap. This is not one of the places you want to go.

I love Strange Cargo, because it is just that, strange. This little souvenir shop on Beale Street is part t-​shirt shop, part art gallery, part music memorabilia kingdom, and part just plain out there. Just when you think you’ve seen all it has to offer, you turn a corner and Strange Cargo enters a different genre of store. They have an amazing selection of vintage blues and jazz postcards (and at only a buck they have a better selection and lower price than anywhere else in Memphis I’ve yet to see) old jazz posters, tin signs, t-​shirts (oh the freaking t-​shirts), magnets, shot glasses, belt buckles, kitschy hats and ridiculous sunglasses.
My personal favorites at Strange Cargo? The light fixture hanging from the ceiling made of old plastic Barbie dolls, the antique doll wall art in the very back of the store (these are seriously freaking awesome!), and the kitchen towel with the 1950s cartoon woman that read «I ran into my ex, put it in reverse and hit him again.» Classic really.

Strange Cargo is located on Beale Street in the heart of all of the action. If you need a great souvenir for yourself or a loved one, this is a great little shop to stop in and pick something out. Fun to bring friends and family to try on the silly hats and glasses. There is a great selection of glass items like shot glasses, dishes, magnets, and figurines. More items include t-​shirts (many sizes), zany sunglasses, and crazy hats. Everything is emblazoned with something Memphis and the prices are pretty reasonable.

I stopped by this place right on Beale St. to pick up some souvenirs. The place had plenty of souvenirs so I selected a bunch of post cards and a shot glass.
They accept credit cards but there are no refunds. Exchanges only.
