Much improved over the past year. I appreciate them being open at 4. They are nice and have good service. Chinese dishes are very good. The Moo Shoo is great. Potstickers also good. Great tempura. Not too oily. Makes my kids enjoy veggies.

Upping my review from 4 to 5 stars. Aoyama has fabulous chinese food. We haven’t tried the sushi yet.

Our favorite sushi restaurant! We used to go to the location in Martinsville, but when that one closed we decided to make the drive to Mendham. The food is just that good! The rolls are enormous and tasty. We have never tried the hot dishes so I can’t comment. The only negative is that the service is sometimes quite slow and inattentive. Otherwise, if you are in Morris county and looking for sushi, this is the place to go!

This place is excellent. I’ve had sushi at 3 different Nobu restaurants — in NY and CA — and this sushi, I think is better and 1⁄5th of the price. It’s always fresh — rolls are huge — loaded with fish. Clean, Fresh — with a cute ambiance(inside).

Excellent quality and good service. They have a habit of pushing expensive specials. Special are noticeably more expensive than ordering from menu. We really like the place but it is not cheap.

My wife and I go here a lot for convenience. Food is good, and the menu is extensive. You’ll definitely find something to eat here, whether you like sushi or not. Byob, and enjoy a variety of Asian food.

We frequently order takeout from Aoyama. The food is great and although it is on the expensive side, I think it is well worth it. The Mexican roll is hands-down the best sushi I’ve ever eaten. It’s just that good. Another reason I like ordering from this place is because some members of my family do not like sushi. They get great standard Chinese food, and I get great sushi. If you want to dine in, the décor is modern as it has been renovated in the past few years. I highly recommend it!

Got two special rolls for lunch today — the Garden State and the Tokyo. What an amazing Lenten Friday treat! The rolls are delicious, albeit a little out of my price range! I will definitely go back when I am this neck of the woods again :)

The service was quick. I dunno if you want to see this as good or bad but our sushi came after our main course. The price was good, thought the Lo mein tasted slightly burned and you could taste the pan. If that after burnt taste wasn’t there I would have given it a better rating. Overall price was fair for portion of food and atmosphere was nice, thought the waiters have some trouble speaking English which was kind of difficult to place our order.

You’re not really expecting amazing sushi in North Jersey, but every once in a while, someplace like Aoyama comes along and totally surprises you. They’ve got all the staples, prepared very well, rice is perfectly prepared. The portions are a little on the larger side than some other places, sushi menu is updated nightly. One crazy roll you must try, the Caribbean Role: banana, avocada and tuna… one of those crazy combinations that sounds like it’ll be gross but ends up being good enough to want to come back just for that again!

Came just for sushi, though the Chinese food also looks excellent. Portions were very generous(and include Chinese noodles and duck sauce). The Aoyama roll is HUGE and included salmon, yellowtail, and tuna in rice paper. They also have some unique rolls that feature ingredients like banana, pineapple, and cashew powder. The combinations are unexpected, but delicious. Overall, a good place for a nice dinner(2 can have a very filling meal for $ 50).

Very nice atmosphere and attentive waitstaff, but 3 things bothered me about this place. First was that I ordered a chicken dish and the chicken was so tough and overcooked that I only ate about ¼ of the meal. I did have it wrapped though, because the sauce was delicious. Second, the waitress tried to upsell us on appetizers, which I found annoying. She was a bit pushy about this appetizer special they were having, which we simply didn’t want, as we had just told her what our appetizer choice was, but she was borderline insistent. Just kind of annoying. And third — the music. Loud and clubby, and then it was someone’s birthday… which was celebrated by a recording blasted over the speakers. I felt like I was on a cruise ship for some reason. Weird. Not a terrible place by any means — as I said, the massaman curry was delicious and I really liked the idea that you are served papadum, which I’ve only ever been served in an Indian restaurant prior to this.

Just finished a takeout meal and had to review… not good. We live in town an find Aoyama has been going steadily downhill the last couple of years. Quality ingredients, just no flavor or care in the Chinese food. Bland, bland, bland. Cooking is a craft and this falls very short. Two stars for the pleasant staff and quality ingredients. It will be a long time before we try here again.

As a Mendham resident I was excited when Aoyana opened. Sadly, each time we’ve gone to Aoyana it had has proven to be overpriced(even for Mendham!) and bland. There are many better Japanese options in Morristown.

My husband and I during our visit to Mendham, from South Orange County, CA had a hankering for sushi. Despite the lack of reviews, we decided to give it a try with low expectations. Boy, were we pleasantly surprised! The staff was friendly. The place was clean and the fish was very fresh. The presentation was certainly well done and this would be a place we would frequent if we lived in this neighborhood. The sushi is a bit pricey but their BYOB policy made up for it. We brought a bottle of sake which they heated and served in a sake bottle. We sat at the bar and only ordered sushi items.

This is the best Chinese food in Northern New Jersey as far as I am concerned. I love their Szechuan dumplings!

The food here is very good. I get the chicken lo-mien, teriyaki, or sushi. No matter what I get, I enjoy it very much. I must admit, I am a bit picky about their teriyaki, especially the beef and chicken teriyakis. The Chicken Lo-Mien is good, and the sushi is good as well! The atmosphere of the restaurant is great, and the place is very nice. It is right next to the coffee shop, and it is a very nice place. I love everything about this place, including the food and the atmosphere. Overall, I recommend going here as opposed to all the other places that are asian. Enjoy!

There’s an order to things in the restaurant stratosphere. There are unwritten– hell, they’re probably written by now — rules and procedures that should be performed that are expected when one goes to dine out and spend decreasingly valuable dollars. Let’s start here: the flatware must match. This is a pet peeve… I refuse to spend one more minute on this earth in a situation where my dinner guest is eating with a salad fork and I with a dinner fork. While we’re on the subject, when I use whatever random fork is put before me to consume an appetizer, TAKETHEFORK and bring me a fresh utensil to use. Especially in light of the fact that this is a Japanese/Chinese situation… Why is my capitalist inspired technologically advanced makers-of-the-efficient-hybrid-car appetizer mixing with what is destined to be a communist, under-cutting themed entrée? Not cool. I shouldn’t have to ask for water. Just sayin’. That being said; I believe in you, Aoyama. I remember when you were a stodgy Chinese restaurant serving only stodgy customers in Mendham. I remember feeling as though I was in the cast of «A Christmas Story» as you served Sesame Chicken in a white shirt and bow tie with table cloths. I remember hearing stories of how cats would disappear in the dubious alley behind you. I never believed that, by the way. You, Aoyama, represent a new, hip alternative for the people of this region that must also become new and hip or it will die. You represent hope in the King’s mall– you’re not just a restaurant, you’re a symbol. But you MUST get your act together. I will be back, but give me a reason to re-visit this writing and give you the review that you deserve and that you can be. We are all counting on you.

I’m surprised nobody has reviewed this place yet since it was pretty packed when we came in for lunch on Black Friday. Very tasteful interior with a 6 – 8 person room sectioned off towards the back. Our party of four had the sashimi boat for two, a baked ika(squid), and the black sea bass done in Chinese style with julienned green onions and ginger. Their fish is really good — thick cuts of sashimi and plenty of variety on the boat. Try the butter fish. It literally melts in your mouth. I HIGHLY recommend the ika for an appetizer. Our squid was imported from Japan and was of the smaller variety. Super tender and drizzled with a teriyaki sauce topped with ground black pepper. The black sea bass didn’t really go with the rest of our Japanese meal, but as a stand-alone dish, it was solid. You can tell this place really focuses on delivering quality fish.
