Larry Joe’s serves the best hot dog in New England. If it is not exactly what you wanted, just ask for additional condiments. This is a truly unique experience. Larry Joe loves to tell stories and is a genuinely great guy to talk to. Do yourself a favor and try this place. If you are driving from RI, your GPS should take you on a nice scenic drive and you won’t regret it.

Larry Joe is a real bad man!!! How can I possibly justify traveling a half hour each way for a road side hot dog stand! If you have an extra 20 minutes ask him why his place is so special. So the reality is it isn’t, but his hickory smoked hot dogs are phenomenonal. Try it and you will not be disappointed.

We were watching the Phantom Gourmet and hubby decided we had to go try it! So we jumped in the car and headed right out. Hubby loves hot dogs.(Yea, as you can tell, he’s a health nut.). We both got the frankfurter — his the big one and mine small. He went with mustard and all-beef chili. I had the relish and the hot peppers. The toppings, all homemade, were delicious! The dogs are Pearl brand, which aren’t my favorite, but grilled over the hickory fire definitely made them taste even better. Lightly grilled bun from Mazzerelli’s in Milford were nearly perfect for containing all the yumminess. To quote my husband — «best hotdog ever.»

I brought my girlfriend for lunch after seeing a review on the Phantom Gourmet. I have to say they nailed it. Larry Joe marinades the dogs in apple juice and molasses then grills them on a hickory-fired grill. The toppings are delicious but don’t overpower the meat. I got the fire dog and my girlfriend got the classic. My fire dog was moist and plump. How many times have you gotten a sausage from a food truck that was cooked down to beef jerky? Not here! While dogs and sausage is not my main fare, I know I’ll be back for dogs and blues. Larry Joe is one heck of a musician, no doubt about it. Over all a great experience.

Found this just on a random Unilocal search ! It is a must … Overly friendly, great food .had the firedog… this just became a regular lunch stop for me. He is located in a parking lot, and for some reason my GPS was dying on that road, but you can’t miss him big white trailer and flags all over the place.

Larry Joe is an icon. The food is great especially the spicy ones with loads of condiments. It has become a tradition for us when we are out on the Harleys to drop by for a dog and hear Larry Joe play some tunes and sing when business isn’t booming. His stories are just another aspect of why stopping by for some food and his friendly smile make this a great place to visit.

Larry Joe is the man. He will sing in his southern accent while preparing the best giant hot dog of your life, which is straight from Alabama I believe. The casing splits open perfectly and the juiciness is entrancing. He even offers his own homemade condiments. Can’t say it’s the healthiest thing you will ever eat but it is comfort food at its finest and Larry Joe just might be the nicest guy you will ever meet. Even if you don’t like hot dogs, they will make you fall in love.

Very good(big) dogs here. These take a while so don’t figure on anything quick happening. These are 4 to a # Pearl beef dogs(pretty sure) and they’re cooked on a grill with added wood chip for additional flavor. Larry used to work for Speed on Northampton Street in Boston before Speed retired and he’s tried to recreate that setting. While not as good as a Speed dog… these are very good and very big… he does take call ahead orders if you are in a rush.

The hot dogs are grilled on an open flame, as are the buns. YEAH, that part is fantastic. The downside: the hotdogs themselves are ok. I had a regular hotdog, it was kind of bland. I suspect putting fixings on would kick it up a notch, but I personally like a well seasoned dog plain or with just a little mustard. The dog just did not have enough flavor. The buns are almost too big, they are really sub rolls. The Western dog is flavored with sage and pepper, all I can say is I thought it tasted very odd, almost like oysters. Next time I’d try their spicy dog, or a plain dog with lots of fixings. I would go here again if in the area, or maybe even drive 10 miles if I really was hankering for a dog.

I work in Milford and commute on 140 almost everyday. I have passed Larry Joe’s countless times and always entertained stopping there. Well, TODAY I DID. My fiancé and I each got the traditional frankfurter with different toppings. The dogs were HUGE, grilled over hickory, and the buns were grilled too. The mustard and chili are worth a mention, they were delicious. This was the best hot dog I’ve ever had! It doesn’t appear to be much, but this road-side grill is absolutely worth a stop.

My wife and I found this place on Unilocal when looking for another place to eat in Mendon, MA. We went here today on a gorgeous end of summer day. We both had a «traditional» dog. My wife had the sweet BBQ and tomato salsa as condiments. I had mustard, relish and onions. The dogs were out of this world, although I don’t think I can call a ½ lb. link a dog. The condiments are all freshly made and were delicious additions to the dog. While we were there, Larry played some Louis Armstrong on his piano. We’ll be going back soon.

This is not a hot dog. This is the Godzilla of hot dogs in size and the filet minion of hot dogs in flavor. There are two versions, the mild and the hot and spicy hot dog. Do you dare? If you want food at a food truck price but fit for royalty(this version previously served to royalty in the white house) then you have come to the right place. I have enjoyed both versions of Larry Joe’s hot dogs and you will not be disappointed. The toppings like relish and a tomato based sauce(don’t call it ketchup) are all homemade and fresh. This can give it zing in the flavor direction you like. Choose the sweet for your sweet mood or the smokey topping if you are in a smokey mood. Don’t order two for one person. they are bigger than any Italian sausage and one will over fill just about anyone.

Ou wee! If you enjoy hot dogs/sausages — this is the go to place. The dogs are made to order — so they are hot, crispy, and fresh. The owner of the food truck is an awesome man. He’s a very old school man, and tells very entertaining stories when interacting with his customers. Visit this food truck on any day, and enjoy the well portioned sausage while enjoying the weather outside!

This place is fantastic! The man who runs this place is so nice and very passionate about what he does. Everything is hickery wood smoked and grilled to perfection. I highly recommend the fire dog. It is very spicy, but it has a beautiful blend of flavors. 10⁄10 I would recommend this place to everyone!

Best hot dog I have ever eaten. You can taste the quality. Very simple, but good variety of homemade toppings. Fresh, locally baked buns. Plus, you get a great personality serving you. I highly recommend!

This is as close as you can get to the legendary and dearly departed Boston Speed dog, which the Wall Street Journal once called«America’s Top Dog». The original Speed, Ezra Anderson, is now in his 90’s and retired, and his successor Gregg sadly passed away in 2013. But Larry Joe worked with Speed when he was thinking about expanding(and apparently helped train Gregg), so he has the bona fides to do a «White House» dog right(so called because it is based on the recipe reputedly served to the King and Queen of England when they visited FDR’s White House!). Ask to try a «Traditional» frankfurter done up a la the original Speed dog with mustard, BBQ sauce, chili, relish, onions. But I actually think a «Western» sage & black pepper sausage, with BBQ sauce, relish, and just a little bit of hot pepper salad(spicy!) is even better, and the hickory smoke really comes through. Is it as good as Boston Speed’s was? Who can say? I haven’t had one of those in ~5 years, and Larry Joe’s recipe is similar but still different. But it is definitely worth the 40 minutes drive west from Waltham.

Amazing find of road food with a charismatic owner chef, delicious dogs and sausage, and fresh and delicious homemade toppings. Ask Larry Joe where he got the hot dog marinade recipe, ask him to serenade you with a song, and ask him about life. This stop is not just lunch, it’s a delightful experience and a piece of Americana road food. Worth a trip!

We’ve made our way up to Larry Joe’s a couple of times from Providence(a 30 – 35 min drive) and I can see us driving up to Mendon to see him in the foreseeable future. Aside from being a lovely and charming man, Larry Joe has something great going here. All of the home made ingredients combine together for a great meal and experience. As some others have already mentioned, Larry Joe is a talented musician and will sometimes sit down on his keyboards and play a few tunes while you eat. He also has a following of people, which leads to overhearing some funny conversations. The 0.5lb sausage comes in either firey or mild sage and I must say that I’ve enjoyed both. The firedog has some blazing Caribbean spices and should be consumed with plenty of drinks. But, on top of the dog and bread roll you can get 4 – 5 toppings that include sauerkraut, relish(more of a chutney — wonderful), onions, bbq sauce(pretty good), meat chili, and others. 4 toppings bring you up to $ 8, but remember this is a 0.5lb dog that is clearly not factory made! Plus all of this is grilled over a firepit with all the wonderful flavors that it brings. We’ve enjoyed our experiences and look forward to more! Larry Joe is situated on the main Mendon stretch in a parking lot, he’s typically open until around 5 pm Tues-Sat. Bring cash!
