Rich Ennis Rolfing/Menlo Park Rolfing

I am in the midst of my ten series and I must say Rich is amazing. My reasoning for coming in was chronic discomfort in my right pectoral muscle and my entire right shoulder joint from a previous injury. Not only did Rich loosen and make it feel better, I haven’t really had that discomfort since. And my knees! They have not been cracking since session 4. I will definitely come back for fine tuning.
* update… I have been immobile for 6 weeks with a broken wrist and had to cancel all sessions. I got my cast off yesterday (¹⁄₂₀) and saw Rich today (¹⁄₂₁) and it is probably the best thing I did for myself. With an injured shoulder and broken wrist and immobile for 6 weeks is painful. I came in today somewhat out of whack. Huge thank you for making me feel human. I can move my shoulder and my wrist is so much better. Still a road to recovery but I’m sure I’m ahead if true game! Thank you, you are amazing!

After many months of listening to my son talk about Rolfing and how he felt it would help my over all well being, I decided to give it a try. I am a hair stylist. Standing all day is my job! When I went to see Rich for my first appointment, I had a sciatica problem, My posture was terrible, I was developing a lump in the back of my neck. I was not walking properly. It is a few months shy of one year since my final Rolfing appointment of the ten series. I am happy to report I no longer have a sciatica problem! My posture is straighter, I am much more aware of how I walk, sit and stand. I have more freedom of movement. Rich helped me tremendously! He is patient, kind and very professional! After finishing my 10-​series with Rich I cannot believe the changes in my body. I told Rich before we started I felt like I was trapped in body armor. As a former dancer and athlete it was miserable losing so much flexibility and feeling so stiff and unbalanced. Rich has given me back my body. I am able to take dance, Pilates and yoga class and I feel 15 years younger. This work continues to expand and release in the body after you finish the 10-​series – unlike traditional massage.
Rich is an expert Rolfer and body worker – continually educating himself about his vocation and bringing that knowledge to his clients.
I will continue to visit Rich periodically now that my 10-​series is finished. I can’t imagine not taking advantage of this great practitioner and practice!

Rich cares. His treatment sessions helped mitigate back, knee, shoulder, and neck pains that have limited me for 8 years, following a motorcycle accident. His explanations and instructions have helped educate me on how to carry myself to keep improving, and to stay well.
My daughter got me started with him through a Christmas gift of a first session, and I have to say it is the best gift I can remember receiving since the bicycle I got in 1962. I did the complete 10 series with Rich. I had tried Rolfing with another practitioner before, but I didn’t finish because I felt the Rolfing approach was a very standardized one-​size-​fits-​all approach to bodywork that doesn’t make any allowances for the individual. Furthermore, it was expensive, and the results never lasted more than a few days.
I went in to see Rich for a one-​off issue with my left shoulder, right hip, and I really liked Rich’s very non-​traditional approach to Rolfing and bodywork. He asks me where I’m feeling imbalanced, he observes me in motion, and then he adjusts his approach to whatever issues I need addressed. The best part? The results of Rich’s bodywork lasts. After my 10 series, I still stop in to see Rich from time to time when I need some fine tuning.

Where do I begin. Rich is the man! I’ve tried everything from deep tissue massage to ART to help my shoulder primarily. I went and saw Rich who was not pushy and completely honest about what Rolfing was and that it may not work for everyone. He didn’t try to sell me anything and just provides me with educated information which was a breath of fresh air. Someone who knew what they were talking about and knows the body inside and out. I did the complete 10 series and feel better than ever. I would HIGHLY recommend this.

Few months ago, I finished my 10 sessions with Rich. I came to him because of constant discomfort while working out, my knees where hurting, my back… After my first one, I felt better and I was looking forward to each session. It had been 4 years since my first 10-​series before I saw Rich. I had gone to see him for touch up work mostly related to breathing and posture; extremely important for me since I am an opera singer. We only had a couple sessions, but the work was profound and I was pleased with how attentive and accommodating he was to my concerns. I recommended Rich to my mother who is a hair stylist and she is currently starting a 10-​series with him. His office is clean, comfortable, and professional.

I completed my ten series with Rich a few months ago, and would highly recommend his treatment. I have multiple past injuries from many years of soccer and long distance running, and had been compensating in my movement patterns for a long time. I had developed chronic tightness in my left groin, hip, and trunk. Throughout treatment with Rich, he helped me to understand and visualize these compensations. I feel that I am able to walk better with more optimal alignment, and am much more aware of my body in space. The Rolfing also helped to ease up some areas of tightness, and I had significantly reduced right shoulder pain with swimming, and less discomfort in my left groin with walking. Rich has a continuous desire to learn about the body, it’s structure, and optimal movement, and is truly engaged in what he does.

Rolfing is amazing, and Rich does great work! I went for a misaligned tailbone and came out of the 10 series with that fixed along with many other things I didn’t even know existed. I had had vein work on my leg a year ago and there was a large area that was still numb. After working on that spot for only 10 minutes, the numbness was immediately gone. Rich also worked on a previous shoulder injury that I wasn’t aware was a problem, but feels so much more open and fluid now. I also got my nose straightened! My son broke it a while back when he threw his head back and since has been a little crooked. Never knew all these things could be fixed by rolfing!
I highly recommend rolfing for so many benefits. Rich is really into the research aspect as well so he is always learning new things that can be helpful to each client. The nerve work that I have seen and heard about is incredible. Whether you have back pain, sciatica, bulging discs, or just a little misalignment, this is for you. The best part about this is that it doesn’t just temporarily fix things, your body actually stays this way. As opposed to chiropractic or massage work that just moves things for the time being.
Rich is also very honest and has a great science background for this. But when I asked why this works and why your body doesn’t return to its previous state, he gave me some science-​related answers but also– ‘it’s not quite certain why this works. We’re still doing research to figure that out.‘

I am in the midst of the SI Ten Series with Dr. Ennis. This series of 10 weekly 75 minute appointments in the cornerstone of Rolfing.
Already I feel much more structurally aware. I feel much more anatomically aware, in my movements and posture. Rich’s experienced eye notices minute movement patterns that will have a pronounced cumulative effect.
Rich’s background in science led me to trust that Rolfing is ‘evidence-​based’ medicine. Rolfing works, and the reason you have not heard about it are the same reasons behind how Obamacare got this far: you are misled to believe that allopathic medicine is the only ‘proven’ modality for disease and/​or injury. It is more profitable for the large corporations (and the politicians they fund) for you to take pills than to see someone like RIch.
Rolfing works. The cost of the 10 series is worth the enhanced alignment and posture. Throughout the day I feel lighter on my feet, and that I can walk more swiftly long distances or up flights of stairs. Rich’s trustworthy hands have exposed areas of incredible tension, tightness, and myofascial adhesion. I am 24, and by ‘establishment’ standards am in rude health: by addressing these problems now I hope to avoid the back and hip problems that so plague my decidedly unRolfed parents. For someone older the effects will assuredly be even more pronounced. ROLF NOW

Rich has been an amazing help to my family of 3 over this past year. FIrst my husband went to him because of plantar fascitis and back pain. Part way through the series of 10 rolfing sessions, one day it struck us both how many things he was able to do that he couldn’t before… swim without shoulder pain, walk, run and play tennis without foot pain, and SLEEP without waking in pain. Wow. Now my my 21 year old son started with Rich too, and it’s been so great to hear him say he feels more relaxed and that his chronic upper back pain feels much better. I myself have had chronic pain for 15 years and have begun to rely on Rich too. We so much appreciate how broad his knowledge is, though he’s officially a rolfing practitioner, he background is amazing and he has offered us many other ideas/​resources that have helped us enormously (ie: I love rock tape now). He is just such a smart, thoughtful, compassionate person and we are so glad to have his talents available to us.
