Their cupcakes are so tasty and always fresh. I work down the street and we always order mini cupcakes for our employees. Can’t go wrong with the red velvet.

Great cupcakes!!! And Chocolate chip cookies are amazingly addictive. Such a cute little boutique shop!!! Bigger than the one in SF on Chestnutthe staff are very nice and outgoing. I also heard that they make cakes by special order. – might try in the future. Their cake is moist and the frosting is extra creamy and thick. The Birthday cake with the confetti is incredible

We ordered a 6in Red Velvet Cake for our colleague’s farewell party, along with 12 mini cupcakes. When I order the mini cupcakes online, I could only pick one flavor for all 12, but when I pick up in the store the staff was very kind and switched 6 vanilla so I have both chocolate and vanilla.
I also bought a slice of Carrot Cake for myself. Shocking, because I hate carrots all my life.
However, I took a bite of their samples not knowing it’s a carrot cake and found myself loving it!
The large slice of cake is $ 6.50(or $ 6) each, expensive but the carrot cake was totally worth it.
The 6in Red Velvet Cake is moist and creamy. I would recommend to any Red Velvet lovers.
The only –1 star is that the mini cupcakes are SO dry. You can pinch the icing on top and take it off easily because it is so dry. The cake in the cupcakes is dry as well, which is surprising.
Another –0.5 star is that the person in store stuffed all 12 mini cupcakes in a small box, and when I open the box many of the cupcakes are squished. This is not OK for any cake store, and I wish the staff is more careful with the packaging.
I would go back for their carrot cake any day.

This is for the FABULOUS customer support (and delicious cakes) that this SusieCakes shop has delivered. I had made an online order for a birthday cake for my manager and on last minute notice, I had to change the delivery date to today (rather than tomorrow). The team was able to accommodate this last minute change and absolutely went above and beyond to ensure even the same delivery window as I had requested in my initial online order to them.

Very cute, posh little bakery. I have driven by a few times on my way to work and was always curious, since I consider myself a dessert connoisseur. To echo what the other reviewer said, I would have liked to see the prices. I think a menu board could do them well, especially if you are figuring out what to get for 4 kids plus yourself as a treat, then having to adjust of it’s too expensive or whatever. It definitely reeks of finger-​in-​the-​air hoity-​toityness; however, most people around here do because what matters most to them is how much money you have in your wallet, which is why I tend to not hang around here too often. Just look at the goodwill down the street: these rich people cannot be seen in a thrift store. they must be seen in a boutique. With «boutique» in the store title, otherwise people will think they’re poor.
Being around too many snobby rich people rots the brain and sours the heart.
Most people here throw their money around like its nothing and would not even balk at paying $ 20 for a cupcake, but it’s nice to be prepared and know the prices so time is not wasted.
Everything in the shop looks like someone put a lot of care and time and effort into creating the best cake, the best cupcake, the most beautifully iced cookie. The person helping me was very sweet and cheerful.
My boyfriend and I had the pineapple upside down cupcakes. The frosting was quite delicious, not overbearing or sickly sweet, like most frostings. I am not a fan of frosting unless a) I make it myself b) it is expertly crafted. I’ll scrape it off of most desserts. There were tiny chunks of pineapple in the cake, and it was very soft and fresh.
I will say that my cupcake was delicious, but the flavor selections were quite limited and I probably won’t come here again.

I’m so torn about how to review this place. On the one hand, I think they make some really good quality products. Their carrot cake is the closest I’ve ever gotten to nirvana… I almost started convulsing in a full-​body foodgasm when I tasted it. It really is that good.
On the other hand, what incentivized me to write this review, and the reason I won’t be back is… they don’t have their prices posted! Anywhere! Seriously, WTF SusieCakes? Are menu boards not hipster-​cool enough for your posh little bakery? Is the implication that you should only go to SusieCakes if you’re too rich to care what price you pay for things? I actually believe it is, and it’s an intentional statement about the value of their product and how it should transcend the pedestrian matter of money. Honestly… I know they’re located in downtown Menlo Park, home of $ 600 purses etc., but COME ON.
Another reviewer said that the lack of prices is designed to help customers chat with the SusieCakes staff. So I’m supposed to ask the poor person behind the counter how much every single thing costs, monopolizing her time and wasting the time of the seven people in line behind me? I mean if you add this up, it means I’m wasting the time of NINE PEOPLE (including me.) That’s bogus.
Also, the price points don’t make sense to me. $ 1.95 for a teeny tiny mini cupcake? I had to cover my mouth so I didn’t say «ARE F — ING KIDDING ME???» Seriously… $ 1.95? I might as well give you my wallet and a paper shredder so I can just watch you waste my money. But on the other hand, I felt the $ 6 – 7 price for a ginormous slice of cake was fair, given how huge it is and the fact that one slice could easily serve two people.
So, yeah. Sorry SusieCakes, I will not be back to patronize your establishment… or at least not until you put up a board with prices. Believe me, this hurts me as much as it hurts you (*thinks about carrot cake*…*cries hysterically*)

Let’s just say I’m afraid to go anywhere else but here for birthday cakes.
LOCATION
Downtown Menlo Park. If you drive down the Santa Cruz Avenue strip, you can find the quite tealish-​blue front. Can’t miss it
PARKING
Like any other downtown spots in the area, looking for parking can be messy. I am fortunate to always find one when I come and pick-​up. Plan your time accordingly if you have constraint on time– during lunch time at least.
EXTERIOR
Teal-​ish blue! Can’t miss it. It looks like the outside of the Vanilla Celebration cake. It’s cute and fun with large glass windows. There are a few tables and seats outside for your sweet view pleasure.
INTERIOR
Tighty and neat. Upon your entry, there is a little incline walk way and soon you encounter candles, cards, etc on your left along the wall. On the right where it opens up you find the counters and cupcakes and other types of sweets/​desserts behind a glass display. Behind the counter, you usually see 1 – 3 people in their baking attire (aprons and stuff).
CUSTOMER SERVICE
From the phone to the in-​person orders, it seems as though I’m always bombarded with professionalism, friendliness and smiles (yaas!). Honestly, I think if I had a bad day and I was in the area, I probably would just walk in and pretend to be interested in something so that their positive attitude rubs off on me. Bottomline: a very welcome environment.
SWEETS
Heaven. My company celebrates birthdays every two (2) months and we’ve been ordering cakes here since 2015. For last minute emergencies, we were obligated to get something from Safeway, but generally we order the cakes from this location. So far, I have yet to have a bad experience or taste from any cakes from this location. We’ve ordered practically all of the cakes on the website (besides the season cakes). They’re full in sweet/​flavor so I recommend a small slice should do. I make sure I cut between ¼−1″ slices for my co-​workers. We’re all health freaks, so the often opt out not to have anything thicker (Vanilla Celebration is my fav!).
VERDICT
This is and will be my go-​to vendor to order cakes or sweets of any kind. I have and continue to recommend SusieCakes for cake options.

Friendly staff, wonderful baked yummies! I’ve been to the SF, Menlo Park and San Carlos locations. They are equally as amazing and it’s nice to know you can find what you want close by. I hear they’ve also opened in San Jose! Watch out Nothing Bundt, Susie Cakes is gonna take over! Top favorites are the coconut cake, celebration cake and the 7-​layer bar. YUM!!!

I came here last month and thought this place was good but not amazing.
I got two cupcakes and I was supposed to only eat one but… sadly…I binge-​ate both in the same night :-/​
I ordered a peanut butter cupcake and the banana cupcake with cream cheese frosting (I think it was a special?). Anyway, both were fine… but the banana one tasted a little too heavy/​slightly eggy. The peanut butter one was fine but not amazing. I think their desserts are good, though, and I’ll prolly come back to try another cupcake…
It makes me sad that I still have not found a peanut butter cupcake that really wows me in the bay…:-/ The search continues…

SusieCakes is one of the few bakeries that I really love and will gladly keep giving my business to them. I discovered this bakery some years back while searching for a bakery in Menlo Park that did Red Velvet cupcakes, since we all know I have this obsession. This bakery is so retro, kitschy and cute. I love the bright baby blue color scheme that they have, it really does make them stand out and their mascot «Susie Homemaker» (my nickname for her) holding a cake plastered on the boxes, bags and windows just makes this place really unique.
The service here is wonderful, as soon as you walk in you are immediately greeted and asked if you need help. The staff is just wonderful, they make sure they are attentive and can assist with any questions or concerns you may have about the bakery and their delectables. They take the time to cute your cake slices nice and neatly and pack everything properly and they are the epitome of what true customer service is. I have been to a few other locations but this one is simply the best all around.
They are your one stop shop when it comes to baked goods, they have about 7 different varieties of 4 layer cakes available by the slice. These cakes are HUGE, one slice can easily feed two people if you like to share. My personal favorite should be no surprise it’s Red Velvet, the cake is very moist without being dense, light and the frosting is superb. While I would much rather have a cupcake than a cake slice, this is one of the few places that I will always opt to have a slice over the cupcakes. They have various frosting filled cupcakes, mini cupcakes, and flourless cupcakes. The cupcakes are quite yummy as well, I really like the strawberry, red velvet and vanilla and the frosting in the middle is a perfect surprise when taking a bite. Other goodies that they offer are mini cheesecakes, giant cookies, vanilla/​banana pudding, pies and dessert bars. I love that everything here tastes fresh and homemade and you can even see the bakers in the kitchen. Seasonal items are available as well during the holidays, I usually love when they have seasonal items. If you need a custom sheet cake or layer cake made they do this as well.
Pricing here is a little on the high side, while cupcakes run for $ 3.50 which is pretty average the layer cakes will set you back $ 6.25. The prices here aren’t really an issue for me because the cake is so worth it and you get what you pay for. SusieCakes is quickly expanding, when I first started coming here this was the only location that I knew of and now they have 17 locations in both the Bay Area and Southern California. This goes to show how good of a bakery they are and it’s obvious their product and great customer service speaks volumes.

Just to preface this review… I am VERY PICKY with dessert. I don’t like 85% of desserts but I am obsessed with this place.
They made the sheet cake for my bridal shower and it was honestly the absolute best red velvet cake I have ever had in my life. It was perfectly moist and incredibly tasty.
It is a bit more pricy than other bakeries but 100% worth it. Their service is also excellent and they are willing to work with you to figure out the perfect cake design to fit your taste.

The cakes are good, the service sucks. I had a 10am pick up and i got there a little early because i had to have the cake right at 10am (i had a meeting at 10am and we needed this delicious cake).
it was around 9:50am and i thought that maybe they would just let me have the cake since i ordered and paid for it a few weeks back. i see them working so i knocked on the door. i was greeted by an extremely rude employee and before i can even say a word, she says that they’re not open and shuts the door on me!
like seriously?! she didn’t even hear me out and i was only 10 minutes early.
needless to say, i was late for my meeting.
i really do like the cakes. i just wish they were a little bit nicer to their customers.

Their chocolate cake is to die for!
My friend ordered one for our Friendsgiving dinner and it was the clear winner in my book. The cake is so moist, and the chocolate flavor is so rich.
We had a mini red velvet cupcake the day we ordered the cake and that was delicious as well. I’m excited to go back to try their other flavors.

Definitely our favorite family cupcake shop! The staff are all super friendly, helpful and patient! I came in with my already active 8 year old and her friend for an after school snack and the ladies were very welcoming. The shop is kept clean. It’s always nice not to have to sit on sticky chairs or lean on sticky tables :) MmmMMm and the smell… yum! It’s not overwhelming but still sweet enough to enjoying coming in.

I’ve ordered celebration cake and was able to customize the frosting color. The customer service was great. I plan to come back here to order more celebration cake for birthdays :)

SusieCakes Menlo Park did a terrific job on our wedding cake! It was absolutely perfect. We wanted elegant florals and vines in purple, on a 3-​tier white wedding cake. The top and bottom layers were vanilla with confetti, and the middle layer was red velvet. The icing was absolutely delish! And the confetti so colorful and festive! I felt we definitely made a great choice with SusieCakes buttercream cake and didn’t break the bank on fondant. Highly recommend!

CHOCOLATE CAKE $ 7 (⁵⁄₅ NOMs)
Thick piece of chocolate cake is the best diet. There really is nothing diet about this monstrosity of chocolate cake. Look that all that thick icing. Its the chocolate cake sweetness in all the glory! This is the kind of cake that will make you one very happy foodie and a slightly heavier foodie. Its not just one, but 6 layer cake! So rich and sweet that you might want to share it with a friend or two. Or be like us and eat the whole piece of cake by yourself! Its worth all the extra pounds. You know what they say, ones you go cake, you can’t move! Now go and get some cake, you look too thin girl.
COCONUT CAKE $ 7 (⁵⁄₅ NOMs)
You don’t order two cakes and not eat both of them. Buying just one cake from a cake shop is wrong, you really should get two or more especially when the decision is so hard. For our first choice we went with a light and not too sweet Coconut Cake. So light and fluffy this was a perfect light cake. One of those dishes you want to enjoy in small slow bites and savor every bit of it. So good, you can’t eat it all at once. Perfect to satisfy that cake craving without been too sweet. The cake shop has an amazing interior with a old school kind of feel mixed with some modern simplistic design that just made me fall in love with everything. Plus super friendly staff that was happy to recommend us how to put on extra pounds with their cakes.

I like to describe SusieCakes as tasting like being a kid again. Though there’s lots of other options and ‘cupcake places’, many of which are much closer, time and again I’ll make the added effort (and cost) of SusieCakes when it matters most… their cupcakes are always something that everyone’s REALLY excited to see and enjoy.
Also worth mentioning, alternatively I’ve also had SusieCakes deliver to my office before — which worked out great for the special occasion on a busy day.

Daaaangerously good. The first time I came here, I was on a hunt for a simple cupcake to use in my 1-​year wedding anniversary wedding shoot. I picked out a vanilla cupcake with a filling and light blue frosting. And since I was already there and love red velvet cupcakes, I ordered one. Both were delicious! Probably the best red velvet cupcake I’ve had? I think I like it more than the one at Sprinkles. The lady behind the counter was really nice, too. She wrapped up my cupcake in a box wrapped with plastic wrap so it would stay fresh for the photoshoot the following day.
The second time I came with my husband. We ordered a mini red velvet cupcake and also the vanilla celebration cake. LOVED IT. 1 slice was about $ 6.95 and lasted 3 days, shared between two people so you definitely get a lot of bang for the buck.
Overall, solid cakes and cupcakes. Perfectly sweet! :)
