We stopped at this place on our way back in from Yosemite. Unfortunately I didn’t have the same experience as others, but keep in mind this review is coming from a vegetarian. The vegetarian burrito was big, but it was extremely bland with no flavor at all, same as the tortilla chips. While we were there, we were constantly distracted by flies as we sat and ate our food. Others with me got the shrimp ceviche and the chicken tacos. They said it was OK but not fantastic.

Good for large groups. Food is ok fairly decent. Friendly people, customer service was great. One major turn off… the flies where very unpleasant to see and deal with… we wanted to eat there but after swatting flies while our food was ordered we elected to have our food to go…

Very good for what it is. Nice woman was taking orders and running the place, it’s all bi-​lingual and if you like tacquerias, this one is plenty solid. Try the mixed taco, and don’t worry about what they put in in. All delicious. We live in an area of NC with tons of tacquerias and this one is up there with ours.

This was our first time here and we will be back for sure! The is a hidden gem, great customer service, good food and the prices are very reasonable. I had the fried fish YUM! And my BF had the carnitas plate. The food is Sooo authentic I felt like I was in Mexico. You can order carnitas, birria, menudo by the lb. and even take to go. Homemade tortillas upon request and mariscos (ceviche, 7 mares soup, augachille ect) give this place a try you won’t regret it

I’ve got to be honest. I rarely give five star ratings on a first visit. I’ve done it maybe two times in the past five years.
CM gets five stars out of the gate as the single best carnitas plate I’ve ever eaten in a life filled with Mexican joints in and out of the country.
Stunning and right on the way to Yosemite.
Don’t expect décor. This is a startup family business and they put their money into the food. The emphasis was on takeout not dine-​in.
If you like to eat, you’ll adore Carnitas Michoacan.

I originally had given this place 5 stars, but after being here 3 times, I realized the Carnitas are a lot better on the weekends so the consistency in the great taste is not there. The Carnitas are out of this world delicious on the weekends. I’ve also had the tripas and carne asada tacos… they were pretty weak. Stick to the Carnitas and you will love this place. Hence the name Carnitas Michoacan.

The saying goes, you get what you pay for.
At the first sight of my behemoth burrito, I thought to myself, wow, this burrito is stacked. And the truth was, my super burrito was stacked… with a shit ton of rice and beans. A meal becomes unpleasant when there is a lack of balance. In this burrito’s case, there was a lack of carne asada, which caused a lack of texture, which resulted in a feeling of being full without the satisfaction a well balanced meal.
I must admit, they had great customer service. But in the end, I go to hole in the walls like this to eat. And at the end of the meal, my tummy will dictate whether or not to return.

We just had the carnitas for two meal here after work. We are from out of town and we’re looking for a great dinner that we could take back to our hotel room to watch the football game. This food that we ordered was the best we have ever had!!! We just couldn’t believe that each bite was better and better! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants amazing flavored carnitas and is just driving around and using Unilocal reviews to decide where to eat! We will go back for dinner tomorrow night again after work. I now feel bad that we live so far away from this place. We would give 6 stars if we could!!! Don’t miss this place.

Utterly fantastic
We’ve driven all over California. My dads from England and after eating here he said «this is the best meal I’ve had since being here».

The 4 taco special for 5.99 $ with a soda! Came with two salsas — a red and a green. The asada, chicken, and carnitas were all really good. The pastor taco was 7 out of 10. Homemade corn tortillas were delicious.

WHY IS THIS PLACE SO HYPED!!! I ordered carnitas for two and got a plate of skin. The couple of small strands of carnitas in there tasted good but I seriously paid $ 15 for inedible food. I will never go back and never give this place another chance. It IS Sunday and I could understand if it was late in the day and not much meat left but its early and the place wasn’t even busy. I ordered CARNITAS not soggy chicharon. I could have fried up a piece of skin for like $ 1. Never again. I feel stupid for leaving a tip before I saw the garbage I paid for. Would not even eat. I seriously got fried skin and fat, beans rice salsa and tortillas. For $ 15. I’m hangry.

I used to come here years ago when attending UC Merced. I loved their burritos. I came back and they still make one of the best carne asada burritos I’ve ever had. It’s huge and only $ 4.99. I think what sets it apart is the tasty tortilla. I noticed a lot of people come and get take out orders here. Definitely give them a try when you want Mexican food. They have lots of items.

This is one simple but amazingly good hard-​core Mexican lunch dinner place it was fantastic. I had the straight Carnitas tacos with chips and pico and it was amazing for six dollars.
The owner was there helping us and was just an amazingly nice friendly super guy and the food, the food, The food. It’s not much to look at in a little strip mall in Merced but make the trip if you’re coming through town. Everything here looks really good I just had the Carnitas but I’ll definitely be back to try everything else looks really good.

After reading all the amazing reviews, my family and I had to stop by to see for ourselves if it was really as good as the reviews says. Well, they were all on target. Very good food! One of the best places we’ve been to for Mexican food!
We got cocktail shrimp, ceviche tostada, carnitas and chicken tacos. I just can’t say enough how awesome this place is!
We live 2 hours from here and my husband says it’s worth the drive to come here. And that says a lot coming from him!
So, if your driving by, stop by. You will not regret it and you’ll come back for more!
Did I say, how amazing the food was?! Very good food!

Carnitaaaaaaaaaas!
Please go to Carnitas Michoacan and get yourself some carnitas tacos. I’m not sure how they do it, but they make the most succulent, tender, and delicious pork imaginable. When you taste it, you will be transported to a different world, one where all food tastes like savory homecooked amazing-​ness.
Although the ambiance of Carnitas Michoacan is nothing to write home about, the woman who took our order was extremely nice and the restaurant is generally pleasant.
Highly recommended!
