Love love love this place! So friendly and professional & most importantly CLEAN! They have good deals and promotions literally every single day. Love coming here & the manager/​owner is just so sweet & helpful!

Just had the best welcome to Five Star Tanning! The woman at the desk was so helpful in developing a package that will work to get me a base tan for a trip to Hawaii in less than a week. She was flexible, and we determined a custom package just for my needs. At $ 4 per tan and 50% off lotions, you cannot go wrong with this place!

This place is great! I was new to Merced last summer and checked out several tanning salons. The décor is modern, the place is always clean and most importantly, the employees are very professional and go above and beyond for the customer.
If they happen to see me, they have my bed ready before I get in the door. Speaking of the beds, there are a variety of levels available depending on your needs. My favorite part are the upgrade days! I had a chance to check out the different levels of the beds at no extra charge.

I love Five Star Tanning. The staff is really helpful and friendly. They are open late which is a plus being that I work late. Their facility is always clean. I love their new spray tanning I looked awesome when I went to Hawaii.

Wow, I will not be going back! I went in the morning and made an appointment for the evening after being told appointments take precedence over walkins. Anyway, I arrived for my appointment on time, and a walk-​in client was at the counter, and they took her directly back… When I got up to the counter and told them my appointment time, they were confused and didnt believe me. Then they found it was MY appointment time, and apologized since they already sent the girl ahead of me back. I had to wait for almost a half hour! I would have left if I wasn’t getting married in two days. I don’t understand why one of the girls at the counter couldn’t do my spray tan– I know they have enough rooms because they showed me the rooms when I had gone in the morning.
I know now I should have left.
After she finished spraying me, I see two giant sections she missed between my butt and thighs. Of course, I’m in a room WAY in the back, so I have to get all dress, walk up front to tell them, walk all the way back, and get undressed again. And the lady who is spraying on the tan tells me that they usually miss those spots because of the angel. And now it was not going to look smooth because the first coat was already finished– Wow! Why not do it completely the first time-​especially if you know those spots are usually missed. On top of all that, the tan doesn’t even last. By two days (my wedding day) it was half as tAn, by four days, it was gone… I know because I used a sticker to measure my original color to the tan… And after the spray, I had gone an additional twelve hours without showering from what they recommended since they said it would last longer the longer I went without showering. They told me when I left I could come back for a touch up if there was a problem– but I knew with only one day until my wedding at that point I was not going to have the time. Especially after it took so much of my time with the appointment confusion and missing those spots. It was not worth the money… The facility is the only nice thing about it. My overall experience was no good.
But this was in 2010, and my mom says that they have made some changes and she has had good tanning bed experiences recently… I’ll encourage her to Unilocal about it :)

This place is one of the worst in Merced! I only do spray on tans so I couldn’t tell you about the beds, but whatever you go for you’ll get the worst in customer service. When I showed up to use the machine the girl at the desk was texting and didn’t even look up when I came in. She didn’t even show me where the booth was, she just pointed down the hall and I had never been there before! I asked her nicely if she could follow
me back and show me the different positions for the spray and she seemed very annoyed. Sorry for making you do your job? She didn’t seem very knowledgable about the machine and I was confused but she left before I could ask. The tan was okay they have an older machine the body shak has a better one.
Anyway they recently had a special on airbrush tans for 25 normally they’re 50. It was the most awful airbrush I’ve ever seen! I’ve had them done at del sol and it always looks amazing!!! And is cheaper at 45 full price. I cant figure out why the hell they charge so much normally, the tech was rude and obviously didnt know what she was doing. She brought me back to the room which was very dark only one lamp. I imagine its part of the reason why my tan was so uneven. She asked me if I had a swim suit. I told her the dress I was wearing that weekend was strapless so I wanted to go topless with underwear so I didn’t have a tan line. She gave me a dirty look and said I should bring a swim suit next time and that some of her clients go nude but she doesn’t like it. Wtf?!! Way to make me feel comfortable! maybe you shouldn’t be in this business if your uncomfortable with boobs. Seriously? I feel more awkward than you! Im pretty sure that’s how most clients tan.
Anyway she sprayed me in silence and seemed to be in a hurry I was in there for 30 mins and you can’t have some small talk to make it less awkward? the next day I woke up to find she had missed entire sections of my arms and legs! Like whole white strips down my body! She also forgot to do my face! I had to stop there to have it fixed on my way out of town and It looked a lil better but not good either. She was rude just like the first time. All employees there seem to have a major attitude problem and I’m not one to complain unless I need to and was very friendly to them. I was so embarrassed all weekend my friends admitted it looked bad and my trip was pretty much ruined. I will never go back. Oh and when I asked to talk to a manager about getting my money back I was told the girl that tanned me was the manager. Wtf?! I won’t be surprised when that place closes down like the one before it.
