Dora and Yadi are the best! They’re so fun and kind. Such great customer service here!!!

Only place we go to when the Mexican urge strikes. The atmosphere is simple but the food is good. The seafood enchilada is my favorite but I have been trying more items. Wife likes the super nachos. Always good.

My favorite Mexican Food I’ve every been too. Really Friendly staff. Also there are plenty options to eat. Could go there every single day. Great for kids.

Food was great. Ordered take out on a Saturday night close to closing time and they seemed happy to squeeze us in. A quick 15min after we placed the order, the food was ready. Minus two stars for being unreasonably cheap. When I went to pick up the food, the total for Tacos al Pastor, Arose Con Pollo, Carne Asada, and Fajitas was $ 81.36. Not horrible for MI late night. But when I asked for a small side of Pico de Gallo, they insisted they charge me more. Since they’re on the south end of the island, this restaurant has a very limited customer base. It would do them well to be accommodating to their customers. I was willing to spend roughly $ 80+ per week($ 3,840/year) with these folks… Ill give it some consideration next time I’m in a crunch.

I was a fan of this restaurant with my young family when it opened years ago. Over time we built it out of our thinking because of a poor value equation and lack of distinctive food. After a couple of years of passing by, and without my family to please, I ordered takeout enchiladas — chicken. The hostess was super friendly. There was only one table being served(8p Friday). My entrée was bland and the chicken was tough, like it had been frozen & reheated. I got food sickness that night — 24 hours of misery. Can’t say for sure it was or wasn’t my meal, but I think the liklihood is high, given the challenge of reducing waste when patronage is low. I really do wish them luck, as with any business, although I can say I will not return.

There are quite a few negative reviews here, but I haven’t experienced any of what they say. My family dines at El Sombrero regularly and we enjoy it a lot. The food is delicious. We have tried everything from the fajitas, to the enchiladas verdes, to the diablo shrimp. The staff is very friendly too.

Terrible experience! I went in to order take out. There was a young teenager behind the cash register. He didn’t say anything to me not even greet me with a hello! I stood there waiting for some one to come and greet me for a few minutes and no one seem to be paying any attention to the register. Finally when I said to the youngster behind the cash register, if anyone was there to help me? He muttered something and I said, «did you say you will take my order» and he said«yeah». I gave him my order, he didn’t repeat it(I should have asked him to repeat it — my fault). Bottom line my order was wrong(surprise, surprise). I called to express my concerns and no one even cared or said anything. Needless to say, I WON’T be going back!

Service was indifferent. Food was average at best. Would not return.

This place used to be ok. However, the last two times we’ve come the carne asada has been burnt to a crisp and the margaritas have a chemical taste like tang. Unfortunately…never again.

I generally really like the food here. I come here all the time. My problems are the happy hour wine is clearly old, the food came suspiciously fast, and then the waiter asked me to move seats and didn’t help my move all my food and drinks. I am the only customer here.

This place is close to a friend’s house, and when he is working too hard I drag him out to this place. I like the ‘eggs in red sauce’ but anything they make is pretty good. And their guacamole is above par. It is ‘American’ Mexican, so don’t expect anything exotic, but the basic menu is very good, and better(of course) than trying to cook Mexican at home, which I am hopeless out. If you live nearby, give this place a try. Try ordering the eggs, many Mexican places don’t do anymore. I eat here about every other month, and I look forward to the food. The host and server are great, I ask to be seated in a corner so I can hear well, and they always oblige me. I don’t drink, but I am told their beer selection if good.

Coming from Texas, I’ve found very little decent(much less good) Mexican food in Seattle. Who would have thought that I would find by far the best Mexican food yet on the south end of Mercer Island. They are great with kids too!

Good food for the money and convenience on Mercer Island. However the wait staff is not so prompt in greeting to seat you. Then takes forever for them to even get your drinks or even bring water. I’ll try it a few more times

We had El Sombrero cater an event for us this evening and they did an absolutely fantastic job. They came early(!!) to our location to help setup. Yadira was in constant contact with us and easily changed around our headcount at the last minute. The food was excellent and they were very attentive before and after the event. The trays were of a large size and the quality was definitely there, from scratch most items as far as we could tell. The Mexican/Spanish rice was fresh, the salsa was excellent and the rest of the food was equally well prepared although we didn’t have enough people to eat it all so now we’ve got left overs for days! Well done El Sombrero — we’ll be back!

I’m continually disappointed by El Sombrero’s take-out food. When I eat at El Sombrero in-person, I feel like I pay a fair price. But when I get food to-go, I always end up spending far more than what the meal is worth. Here’s an example: The other night I ordered Combination #2 — $ 12.99. When I picked up my meal, it was magically $ 25.70. I saw that tax was $ 2.23. Then I saw where the difference came from: They charged me $ 10.48 for Guac, Sour Cream, and Pico!!! That’s nearly as much as the meal itself. What the heck?!? I find this completely unacceptable. I suggest that they either reduce the price or offer smaller portions of the sides that cost less. I don’t need 2 cups of Guac for two enchiladas… The food was tasty and I’d eat it again; except that I will not because I don’t want to pay $ 11+tx for their sides. Ridiculous.

Come here if you want SUPERSLOW service and above average priced food and drinks. Not a good layout for groups either… Very closed off sections and only one big table that I recall. The only redeeming factor is the delicious made-from-scratch salsa.

How does this place stay in business? I was there today at 12 noon for lunch. No one was there. And by no one, I mean no customers or staff. We waited at the front for 10 minutes before some one came out to greet us. Then prepare yourself for the worst, most bland mexican food you will ever eat. And $ 3 for a small coke. If this sounds good to you, then rush on over.

If you like Azteca, you’ll love this place. Sadly, I’m not an Azteca kind of person. This is authentic Mexican if your idea of authentic is tex-mex. The costumer service is great. Friendly and fast. But if you’re really craving Mexican, I’d check out the El Camion food truck in Ballard, or Oaxaca(also in Ballard). But if you MUST have Mexican, I guess you can do worse than El Sombrero.

Very mediocre Mexican restaurant with your usual fixings. I ordered the steak fajitas taco salad. The bell better was burnt. The steak fajitas was decent. If you don’t want to order the sizzling fajitas platter, it’s possible to order the taco salad and then have a side of tortillas. Although your plates won’t be sizzling so this probably takes the fun away from having fajitas. Nevertheless, I think had I ordered the sizzling fajitas, I probably would have liked the place even less as that’s a pricey item on the menu so the value proposition wouldn’t have been as good.

Super Friendly staff. Good for kids. Homemade margarita mix. The wait staff make you feel like family. It’s our favorite classic Tex-Cal-Mex in Seattle. Be careful and don’t order the large margarita unless you are a body builder. You’ll need the muscle to lift the giant glass. It’s our little escape from Mercer Island on the Island.
