Too tight, too many people, even when I’d come at 10pm, meathead roided out central, got bothered too much, bathrooms not the cleanest, weight area too tight, so unprofessional in a way how they do training one on one in the middle of the gym where everyones walking/in front of everyone. Should be more personal/private. Used to belong here and jumped ship like SOMANYOTHERS and joined the new Planet Fitness. For half the price, $ 10/mo, you get the same exact thing as Retro and for $ 19.99/mo you can bring anyone free at anytime, unlimited tanning, half off drinks, hydro massage, body endurance, personal training, massage chairs, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, go to any pf and much larger/cleaner facility by far.

I would never go to this aweful gym again in my entire life. When i first went there to try it out they refused to give me a guest pass and made up some crazy story about how 5 years ago i got a guest pass when i wasnt even living in nj at that point. Then i decided to just pay the year in full because i know im a fitness person and im going to be going for a long time. Ive worked in fitness for years and just joined this«gym» because its a block from my house. I was able to use the location twice after paying for a year membership. Just hold your breath when you first go in to avoid the aweful smell of rotten fish. Once your into the club feel free to use the outdated extremely small cardio section or trip over the uneven floor in the«weight» section. Then when they find out you work at another gym they will deny you access and refuse to refund the entire year you paid for even though youve only been there for 2 days. I had to cancel my credit cards and redo all my accounts paypal, online billing, and everything else that is a huge hassle all because of some greedy owners and their poorly spoken staff. Do yourself a favor, and unless you have a ton of fabreeze on hand, workout elsewhere.

Came here from out of town. Gym is basic, front desk had 2 people just to sign people in, take calls, etc. which looked funny. because scanning your membership card is traditionally done on your own… guess another means to employ people :) It has plenty of parking since its in a shopping strip. It lost 2 stars because 1. I dont want to sign my name, home club and other information on the front desk when they’re already scanning my card. Waste of time, imo. I never had to do this at any other location — I have been to plenty of them, few in NJ. 2. The Men’s locker room is not great. It’s small with few lockers and only 3 shower stands. The shower stands themselves are very cramped with the worst shower head I have ever come across. It would spit water with no pressure at all.

I have belonged to this gym for a little over 2 years. The front desk staff has gotten progressively worse since I first joined. So I had to come back and deduct a star. The location is convenient and the gym itself has everything I need. The child care room is very good. The front desk staff is not really friendly and actually they do very little. Either automate the check in process or hire new people. Occasionally I like to use the theater room for cardio. The front desk staff is responsible for operating the DVD player. Most of the time the movie ends and it is not restarted for 20 minutes or more. That to me is not acceptable. Either automate this or don’t even bother offering a theater room. And the funny thing is there is typically at least 2 people behind the desk. You would think between 2 people one of them could figure out how to restart a movie. I am not going to stop coming to the gym for the reasons I stated in the first paragraph. I am hoping that the owner or manager actually reads these reviews and does something about the front desk. It is the first impression that people get from the club. You may not necessarily lose members but you certainly aren’t going to gain any.

My review is based on the poor customer service that I experienced at this location of Retro Fitness. The facility itself is a fine gym and is suitable for solid strength training and cardio programs. Since I was a college student in Virginia at the time, I decided to get a membership at Retro Fitness while I was home for the summer. I kept my membership for several additional months so that I could use the gym during the various holiday breaks that we had. Eventually, I decided to cancel my membership. I canceled the membership in writing as the contract required. I had no issue paying a $ 60 termination fee that was calculated as a percentage of my remaining contract. I paid the fee and expected my membership to be terminated effective immediately. After checking my credit card statement, I noticed that Retro Fitness continued to bill me despite canceling my membership. I called the manager at the gym. He told me that he did not process the paperwork as a termination. They processed it as a «non-renewal» instead, meaning that I would still be charged for the remainder of my membership and that I was liable for the back payments. When I asked why he did it this way he stated that there was nothing that he could do and that I would have to pay. I called my credit card company and disputed the charge and notified them that Retro Fitness was no longer authorized to charge my account due to a breach of our contract. I was reimbursed for all the charges that Retro Fitness had charged me. I expected this to be the end of my ordeal. Now I receive harassing emails and phone calls from ABC Financial, which is Retro Fitness’s financial membership service. I now have a bill from them for all of the backcharges that my credit card company took from them. After calling ABC Financial, they contacted the gym manager in Hamilton and said that it was a paperwork issue that is Retro Fitness’s fault and that I should contact the gym. After another phone call we were told that the gym still would not do anything about the fraudulent charges. The credit card that I used has since been canceled and Retro Fitness does not have any of my current credit card information on file, so I cannot be charged but the harassing emails and phone calls continue. After this ordeal, my father and I have both severed our relationships with Retro Fitness. My father was happily a member of this gym for several years but left after hearing about my ordeal. It is a shame that a decent gym is ruined by pitiful management and customer service.

Joined last week, and overall my experience has been good. Took them up on the«free» trainer assessment, which is where they try and get you. Mike gave a good workout, but as a salesman he fell short of the mark. He didn’t listen to me, he spoke too fast(and sounded uneducated), he criticised other gyms(including other locations of Retro Fitness) and when I made it clear that I wasn’t going to buy additional services he basically blew me off. The facility is clean, though, and the equipment is in good condition. The locker room is nice and well-kept, with good showers. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and extraordinarily helpful when I first joined, and when I bought by daughter(they have a child care room available for an extra fee from 9:30a-noon and 4:30p-6:30p)
