Yes, the locksmith… one of those old-fashioned but eminently necessary local services. What matters most? Quality of work, developing trust, sense of value… quite a challenge for a type of business that people will always need, but never really want to have to call. I brought in this stupid old truck that’s in such bad shape, I couldn’t even lock or unlock the doors with the ignition key… I just assumed they were keyed differently. So I took it to Chris, their car guy, and he did absolutely everything right. Chris [paraphrased] — «Actually, the doors were keyed the same way as the ignition, but there was something wrong with both of the cylinders, so I fixed them up and lubed everything for you. I’ll just charge you a half hour of labor.» Expecting to pay around $ 100 for new cylinders, I was instead charged $ 49 for a half hour of labor. Everything was taken care of in under 45 minutes. You know a man is honest when he proposes the cheapest, fastest, and simplest solution. Trust hereby earned.
