I understand that delis get busy in peak hours, but as someone who has only been here a few times since I’m new to the area, I haven’t yet figured out the«counter culture.» Today I walked in and grabbed a wrap from the cold case. Right after I turned around to make my way to the counter, I heard someone ask«who’s next?» Having been to delis where folks who are ready to ring up can identify themselves to pay for their stuff and move out, I told the guy I was ready to check out. He then made me feel like an asshole by reprimanding me for standing among a small line of people who needed to place their orders. So — without any direction — I walked to another side of the counter where people were waiting for their orders — and then was reprimanded a second time as I was being cashed out. Sorry… I’m a big fan of friendly service, even if I made a small faux pax in where I happened to be standing. I will not be back.

Food is delicious, deli is spotless, service is fast, orders are accurate! The assorted daily hot dishes are like gourmet restaurant food. Today I had the Cuban Pork which was so juicy and flavorful, words can’t do it justice. Fantastic paninis, steak sandwich, salads, and soups.

This place is very overpriced. On their menu it says 3,49 for bacon on a roll or eggs on a roll, i get a couple of add ons from the salad station so i can understand if it was over 5 bucks but my eggs on a roll with a couple of add ons from the salad station come out to 8.17 how is that possible?

I used to really like this place. The. Salad bar was great but recently the quantity of food has dropped and the prices have stayed the same. The quality of food is still top notch but quantity for for dollar has dropped. It’s a very busy place and there is a very small parking lot. Other than that it’s street parking and most of the time you have to walk a bit to get there.

So good! Was in the area for an estate sale and stopped in for an early lunch. No line around 11:30am on a Saturday. Shared the Italian hero and was stuffed! It was packed with meat and so many amazing flavors. I highly recommended stopping in here if you’re in the area.

I came here for breakfast because I was craving an egg sandwich. It was close to where I was so– headed over to get a «to go» sandwich. I got there at about 9am and it was a weekday so– I assume the morning rush hour people were already at work for the day. There was no line, just walked up and ordered an egg sandwhich on a bagel with well done bacon and cheese. The guy behind the register was very nice and the service was super fast. I think I waited just a little over 5 mins for my breakfast to be done. The sandwhich was very good as well. I like when I ask for«well done bacon» and they actually serve it well done! Even the coffee they use was good lol Oh also, they have a little sit down area of you plan to stay and eat ;-) Stop in for a good breakfast sandwhich!

This is my favorite deli. I have been coming here for years. My order always comes out correct and they’ve got great people behind the counter. My parents like to complain about the little extra time and money spent here(time waiting on line and I guess it’s slightly pricier) but they still choose Smith Street over any other deli in the area. It’s not uncommon for the line to be at the door but it’s worth the wait. They work really hard to get orders out as fast as possible. Always fresh, always spotless(they are seriously always cleaning). Recommend to everyone and I can’t wait for the second location to open this spring. I will be a customer forever.

I would personally say this is one of the best delis in a 10 mile radius from where I live. Great food, quick service for a place that’s packed at all hours throughout the day but a little expensive. Wide variety of choices, cold cuts are always something I get but they’re great, the breakfast sandwiches are spectacular always made perfectly and enough to fill you up, but make sure to ask for your bacon well done sometimes it’s a little undercooked, all around great food and friendly place.

Today was my first visit to the Smith Street Deli. It surely will not be my last. On an island full of mediocre and lousy delis, it was a breath of fresh air to find this gem. It was recommended to me by a friend who lives in Merrick and raves about this place. The line was nearly out the door, and I thought about leaving, but they were amazing at getting orders done and folks out very fast. I’m glad that I stayed. Lots of variety, salads, soups, hot and cold sandwiches and a large menu of specialty sandwiches and such. The rolls and hero bread was a real difference maker. Nothing makes a good sandwich into a great sandwich like really good fresh bread! A really good place with friendly and efficient staff and good food. Among the best of the delis that I have tried! Highly recommended.

I wish there was a way to give 3.5 stars. This deli has always been a go to for me. They make really good sandwiches which are reasonably priced and offer a wide range of other goodies. My main complaint here is that there have been multiple times where I order some food and notice that the deli clerks handle money and don’t change their gloves after doing so… which kindve defeats the purpose IMO and is nasty.

Over all an amazing deli. Quick, clean great tasting food. One thing that I was disappointed with was to see a young lady with her long hair out while handing food in the back. Hair Nets should be worn.

Good deli. I ordered a hero for about $ 10 – 11 thinking it would be a lot of bread. It was not. It was stuffed with meat. Also, one of my coworkers swears by the soup chicken especially. Not a cheap deli, but a good one.

I am a big fan of sandwiches, and I am a big fan of Smith Street Deli. They have never once gotten an order wrong, the food is delicious, the staff is extremely pleasant/friendly, the prices are fair. What more could you want from a deli? They do get a bit busy sometimes, but the staff keeps the line down pretty quickly.

The best deli sandwiches in Merrick, hands down. The employees are super friendly and there is frequently a line out the door, especially on nice days when folks grab lunch on the way to the beach. My favorites are the South of the Border(roast beef, white jalapeño cheese and BBQ sauce), Wild Turkey(turkey, slaw, Swiss, 1000 island dressing) and the Lords of Flatbush(Salami, Bologna, mustard). These sandwiches are not groundbreaking or unusual in makeup. They work some sort of ingredient ratio magic resulting in fantastic creations. The fresh bread helps as well.

I’ve been here several times and I have yet to be disappointed. The sandwiches are priced around what I consider to be normal here on Long Island, roughly around 8 dollars, some may say thats a big steep but it’s worth it! In fact, sometimes the sandwiches are big enough to hold you over for the day, depending on the person of course. Smith St has just about anything you’d want from a deli; soups, sandwiches, gyros, custom salads, and definitely not least, some delicious half and half iced tea. Not only are the staff friendly here, but you get plenty of food for the buck. I couldn’t recommend this place enough.

Have gone here a few times, place is very clean, prompt service but very expensive for what you get for an average portion. It’s basically a decent place with a price tag attacted.

Have come here a few times and have yet to be disappointed. Always busy but it never takes too long for your food. The biggest thing for me is when I get my bacon egg and cheese with hot sauce, there’s actually a lot of hot sauce! Finally a place that doesn’t skimp! Sandwiches and soups are really good too, especially the chicken n rice. Couldn’t be happier that the deli closest to my apartment is also the best around. Well done guys!

Overpriced. Average-at-best tasting food. Some bakery items purchased were stale! This place is best for egg sandwich and coffee, if you don’t mind spending nearly ten bucks for it. Better delis elsewhere not fleeceing the people of Merrick.

Psycho Chicken with blue cheese dressing and a pistachio muffin top for dessert. A M A Z I N G!!! The sandwich was huge, a hearty or two meal lunch for sure. A must stop for any hungry passerbys.
