Never have I ever had such an awesome sushi dining experience. Sat at the bar and ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. I’d just like to note now that the waiter had telepathy because he knew exactly when to come over from the opposite side of the restaurant and clear plates/ask if we needed anything else. My friend and I got the sushi & sashimi lunch special. All the fish was so fresh. Room temp or just a bit colder. Normally I stay away from white tuna but this scenario was different. I tried it despite my inner prejudice and it melted in my mouth and washed away all my problems. I was feeling particularly peckish so my friend and I ordered an Ichiban roll. Awesome texture and just filling enough to hit the spot. My 5 star review was due to the end of the experience. I was trying to figure out what each fish was in the refrigerated display case at the sushi bar when one of the waitresses came over and went through all of them with me… 3 times. It was a conversation that probably would have annoyed most employees but everyone there was happy to have us and wanted to make sure we enjoyed each and every moment. Great spot, can’t wait to come back.

This is my new regular sushi spot! Always get either the spicy tuna roll, the spider roll, the triple spicy roll, or the spicy salmon roll(personal fave: the spider roll) very cozy ambient, EXCELLENT service every time their service is great! If you’re thinking about coming here definitely try it! You won’t regret it!!!

One of my favorite sushi restaurants. I recommend it a lot. Miso soup is perfect. The rock shrimp hits the spot and a great choice of rolls. Also, their lunch menu has a ton of food at a great bargain. Only 4 stars because the courses come out way too fast and we often get sat on top of other people when there are a lot of open tables.

Its Nov 5th and the nite of the First Omikase Festival at Sushi Ko! An ambitious undertaking by owner and Sushi Chef James. A few weeks ago got an email inviting me to attend this event with an outline of the Omikase dishes to be served and that James’ friend and fellow Sushi Chef Jason who hailed from Ushiwakamaru in NYC would be helping pull this dinner off. They had a 6:30 and 8:30PM seatings each with 12 lucky diners and we chose the later one. The first group was having so much fun that they didn’t clear out till after 9PM so we were treated to Hot Sake by Jasmine… James parner and wife. By the time they cleared out we were starving and ready to party. James accomplished this feat by setting up a horseshoe shaped Sushi Bar upstairs in the dining room with a cooler from the downstairs bar to house the fish needed for the event. Jason was telling us he brought only the finest fish and was prepared to serve prisine sushi, sashami and boiled Taco to us… one plate at a time. Needless to say the food was terrific if not unusual species I personally had never tried before. It was a educational process and we asked lots of questions about each preparation. BTW… we continued to try different Saki offerings during dinner which enhanced the party spirit. Its now a little after 12AM and were finishing up and bidding farewell to our hosts and looking forward to that next text message advising of the 2nd Omikase Festival at Sushi Ko… Thanks to James, Jason and Jasmine for reaching out and creating this wonderful evening event!

Probably the quickest dinner I’ve ever had. We both got sushi so it came out pretty fast. I think it only took us a total of 20 minutes. We left wondering if we even ate. I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. They give you warm moist-towelettes upon sitting which was awesome. Service was okay. We started off with Pork Gyoza and they were pretty good. Our sushi was okay. There was signs all over the place saying they now offer black rice. The sushi bar was full of people and it was very loud. That only thing that stood out was the towelettes. Not sure if we’ll be returning.

The restaurant is very modern. It provides a causal and intimate atmosphere. The service is friendly and very fast. The sushi is very good. The cuts of fish are wholesome and the prices are pretty reasonable. The menu offers many options. It’s a great spot for takeout too. Orders are fulfilled quickly. I recommend Sushi Ko to anyone dining in Merrick.

Loved the sushi here! The miso soup was one of the best I’ve had and I’d recommend the Tracey roll. It was very refreshing with the fruit on top.

Ate here for the first time tonight. It was quite. a little too quite but relaxing at the same time. A casual place that’s local, and happens to be quite good. We started out with the avocado salad. It’s a mixed green salad with thinly sliced avocado and the most amazing ginger dressing. Portion is nice as well but probably too small to share for two adults. I tried two rolls… the California roll and the shrimp tempura roll. I ordered them both wrapped with brown rice, which I love when sushi restaurants offer brown rice as an alternative, so that was a plus off the bat. The shrimp tempura roll was awesome. Comes warm and their spicy mayo(you have to ask for this on the side) is great as well. However. On their menu they don’t mention putting eel sauce on the roll, and I had to send it back. Our waitress said that most shrimp tempura rolls come with it at other places and so that’s why they didn’t mention it on their menu(hence the minus of one star). I think legally you have to put the ingredients on the menu for allergy purposes, but whatever. Their prices are the norm for rolls and salads, Etc. Salad with avocado was 6 dollars. Without avocado is 4.50 I believe. The California roll was about 4.50. I didn’t check to see if they charged extra for the brown rice. The shrimp tempura roll was 6.00 or 6.50. Also reasonable. Came with a total of 6 pieces.

A frequent sushi diner(at least 2/week), I find myself coming back to this hidden gem quite often. They offer a variety of different rolls, not only in the«special roll» section, but also in the«cooked» and«carb-free(no rice)» portion of the menu. Each time I come here, I find myself eager to try a new roll, and have yet to be disappointed. A few of my favorite rolls include Fancy Spicy Salmon Roll, Fire Roll, and the Phoenix Roll… and as I just pulled up the menu to jog my memory on these names, I am planning to go back to try the Banana roll — that looks great! Oh and don’t forget the garden salad — for the ginger dressing alone! and you might want to ask for a fork and knife for it considering the lettuce pieces run as big as my face. That would be my only complaint. Enjoy!

My first time there. The Gyoza was delicious and the Chicken Teriyaki was really really good. This is a cozy neighborhood restaurant that is serious about their cuisine. I will definitely be going back.

I always place an order to go or pickup and when I get there the hostess makes me feel so welcome. She offers me something to drink and engages in light conversation. I think next time I will sit here alone to eat because I will be in great company. Everything is always fresh.

Was in the area picking up some work stuff. Found this place via Unilocal and placed an order for pickup. When I got there, I found I had some extra time and decided to eat in. They were friendly and didn’t have a problem with it. Everything was fresh. I’d repeat.

For the South Shore sushi wasteland, this place is FIVESTARS. James the owner always strives to elevate his cuisine from generic neighborhood Japanese fare to eclectic Asian and Asian fusion cuisine. On the sushi front, the fish is fresh and tasty, often enhanced with special marinades and special order black rice(which is delicious). James’ wife Jasmine is an amazing«front of the house» professional who is attentive, warm and responsive to every diner and seems to anticipate every need. The staff is friendly and efficient and the smiles and greetings from the grateful owners are a real plus. Definitely worth a try and if you live in the area or travel from afar, you will be «hooked.» PS: Mo Po Tofu is to die for!

Overall a good experience. Got here on a Saturday around 7:30PM and was seated right away. Noticed we could sit in Japanese traditional booths so we asked to be moved to one, which was no problem. After sitting we looked at the drink menu and decided to order the plum sake with some green tea. Fast, efficient service with the drinks and a wine chiller was brought out for the sake, the way it should be. Looking at the menu we kept debating what to order and decided to go with the tuna pizza. We were deciding between rolls. What stands out about this place is they have a black rice roll, so we went with that to change it up a bit(it had tuna, salmon, avocado etc.). And then we ordered 2 pieces of unagi and 2 pieces of anago(two different types of eel) and 2 pieces of smoked salmon. The sushi pizza was good, not the best I ever had. I think if it had a little more spice to it I would have enjoyed it more. The roll was good, not the greatest either. The smoked salmon sashimi and eel sashimi were delicious. My favorite part about them, the sashimi was not put on top of rice but rather cucumber sticks, a very nice unique touch. Overall the sushi was good, but not the best and not better than other places. I probably wouldn’t come back here just because there are other places that I find excellent.

EASILYTHEBESTSUSHIINMERRICK! I love this restaurant! Yasmine, the owner(i believe), always comes up to my table and asks if everything’s alright. She is truly a hard-working woman and I look forward to our conversations each time I visit. My family and I come to this restaurant every time we crave sushi. It was the only place in town that used FRESH fish for a long time(I think the others have wised up…) and is still the only one that offers BLACKRICE. Yum! The roll selection is huge and I love their specialties. My sister, who hates fish of all kinds, can still fill herself up. This is the perfect place for a nice, quick dinner! Delivery and takeout too! Top notch.

After passing this place for years, and hearing(normally) good things, finally gave it a try the other night. What a disappointment… We started with the pork gyoza, which was actually decent, and another special they had that night, which was not very good. As for the rolls, i’m not even going to waste my time looking back at the menu for what exact rolls we ordered, of the 6, only 1 was actually good. The sushi was bland, tasteless, and a waste of time and money. I won’t go back, but they clearly do a TON of take-out business.
