Don’t let the American bar food tag fool you. After a day of driving and fast food we wanted a spot that had lighter options but tons of flavor and we found it. The only bad thing is we almost did not stay as we were quoted 30 – 60 for a table for 4 at 6:30. There was a private party going on and it was Friday night, but it did seem like a large spread to quote. That said we only waited 15 minutes or so. Service was great and event when our drinks took a little longer to come because of a busy bar the manager delivered them personally with apologies. It really was not much of an inconvenience, but it does show they care. Meatloaf, Fish tacos and salad were all very well prepared and fresh! Rice pilaf was excellent! I recommend the fried chicken tacos for the kids with no sauce. Great twist on the normal chicken fingers and fries. We will be back.

I’ve come here the last two Tuesdays for Trivia Night with a group and we love it! Definitely try and get there around 7/7:30 if you want to find a table. We order a few beer towers and apps and get our trivia on. They have a deal going on where if you download their free phone app and create an account, then you get a free appetizer from the menu. I got the Chicken Quesadilla and it did not disappoint. I added on jalapenos of course. I’ve also heard their Ying Yang Shrimp is really really good, so I’ll definitely try that next time. AND since we won trivia last night(S/O to team boogie boards), we will definitely be going back with our $ 50 gift card. So fun!

I like this place. It doesn’t deserve more than 3 stars. Good quality of food. Good quality of customer service. They have a lot of potential. I would recommend they do some changes on the menu sometimes. It’s boring to see the same menu for ever and that’s the common problem for all American and rush pubs.

Came here after work for a happy hour with my office. It was an okay experience. I only had a beer and some appetizer’s. I’m not writing this place off by any-means but I don’t think I spent the proper amount of time to be able to give it an honest rating just yet. Will try again if I’m ever in the area.

Went here the other night for dinner and to celebrate a birthday with my family, in total about 12 people, and the whole place was packed so obviously it was good that we had a reservation! With it crazy packed and busy, you don’t want slow service, but sometimes it can be expected and that is what we got; it took a while to get our drinks and it took a while to get the table cleared… though I do understand because it was busy. The food was good, but is it good enough to knock your socks off? Eh, I think it depends what you get. The whole table shared a few orders of the soft pretzels with the cheese dip and those were so, so good! We also got the queso dip, also pretty good. My entrée was the turkey burger, «the t-bird,» and man, that was pretty good too. The burger itself surprisingly had a lot of flavor and was good on it’s own, but also the aioli that came with it added a whole new level of flavor. Fries came on the side and they were those good fries that are crunchy but soft all at the same time. All in all, really good and didn’t feel heavy. I also really liked the drink menu, had a lot of options. I chose the Virginia sipper… and if you like grapefruit, you might like this. I had to stir it up really good to make it more enjoyable though. A squeeze of lime made it tart but pretty tasty! Dessert was okay. I’m not a huge dessert fan though. We ordered the funnel fries that came with 3 different sauces. They were good, sauces were okay. We also ordered the avalanche dessert… I could only have one bite and it didn’t disappoint, it’s just a lot!

Finally made it here for dinner on the restaurant side. First, definitely less loud than the bar side. Second, getting seats on that side was a challenge and not because it was full but, instead, because the hostesses could not seem to wrap their heads around the idea that we wanted that side… Yes ladies we are old, we would actually like to be able to talk and hear each other over our meal; truth be told it is a big part of why we go out together. You see, my hubby actually like each other and like talking with each other, I know, mind blown, right? Anyway, we found ourselves at a table looking over the menu. Hubby got the chicken parm sliders and I got the roasted chicken and avocado salad. The best part was his fries. My salad was OK but I really did not love the goddess dressing. The dressing was called green goddess but it seemed more buttermilk based… Also, the menu says it has bacon but that was not something I noticed in my salad which was a bummer because, well, its bacon. I also ordered a drink. Initially I asked our waitress about a drink, turns out she is not yet 21 but could tell me what others ordered. Not sure I really needed to know she was under 21, should could have just rolled right into popular items, that was really all I was looking for. I picked a sangria(& felt old). We had no problem getting a table on a Friday. Not a packed hip place even if the staff makes you feel old. Despite not being particularly full on the restaurant side I felt encouraged to wrap it up and leave. We tried Blackfinn on a whim. Another visit might happen again on a whim mostly because a Friday night walk-in was relatively easy(at least once we got past the mind blown hostesses).

Awesome selection of craft beer. I also enjoyed my steak that was perfectly cooked! Very juicy and flavorful. I like that they offer specials throughout the week. Looking forward to checking out their craft beer and burger night on Thursdays.

I went to this place yesterday, we order hot wings, pull pork sandwich and fry calamari for the appetizer and I, my husband and our guests got fish taco, cheesesteak, burger and pasta with somethings for the main dishes. For the foods that we ordered, they are just alright to us but Cheese Steak it was terrible, very oily, vinegar and burn. A fry calamari is not crispy. Only two dishes was good only fries and pasta that my friends ordered. This is my second time back to this restaurant. From what I remember the first time it was not bad as this time. It’s not impressed us and we were to many restaurants in this area. I don’t think I will come back again!

The ultimate plan B restaurant among many circle of friends. Back when they first opened, I do admit coming here for a few weekends. Blackfinn has always been a hit or miss through out the years. I’ve either had an enthusiastic and chipper server or a sarcastic and careless one. Same with the bartenders; some are charming and some are completely rude. I usually go with some beer and wings because you can’t really go wrong with those choices. I’ve tried other things on the menu and let’s say only half of the items really did it for me. It seems like 3 stars is the best choice here. Hopefully they can improve into a plan A establishment.

I don’t ever get terribly excited about Blackfinn, however, I was pleasantly surprised by the service and food. We had a very nice time here and felt that we didn’t have any issues with anything. My friend really liked the number of tvs that huddle in the bar and the big booths that accompany them. This works for a great sport place to watch the game with a group of friends. They offer drink and food deals for specific events — in this case — for the NCAA playoffs. I’d come back purely to watch the game. It’s worth it.

Great place for apps and cocktails. It’s a nice, big restaurant, where you can go to their huge bar or go for dinner. Last time, we got their crab cakes and their version of Long Island iced tea. Yum!

Blackfinn is your standard sports bar. I live right around the corner so it’s easy to get to but there is parking along the street and a parking garage nearby. They have a bunch of beers on tap. I really like that they have modelo especial and lagunitas IPA. Their food is ok… The queso tastes like jar queso from the grocery store, the calamari is definitely frozen beforehand and I felt as if I was eating more fried dough than actual calamari. The wings are good, and the nachos are too, but I prefer the chicken nachos vs the pork ones that are on the menu(just ask your server for the chicken ones). The fries though… Get those! They are delicious. Service seems to be a hit or miss. Last night our waitress never provided us with ketchup or napkins, we had to get up and ask someone /retrieve them ourselves. Other times service has been fine. Check this place out if you want to watch a sports game and have some bar food.

It had been awhile since I was last at Blackfinn but jumped at the opportunity to meet a college friend there for drinks and apps(and a burger because duh) this past Friday evening. I called ahead for a table for us, and naturally my friend beat me there(I’ll be late to my own funeral!) — when I arrived, it was a little past 7:30 and the place was PACKED.(We were not that surprised as it was a Friday but given that it is so close to the Mosaic District and all of the dining and drinking options there, I was a little surprised that it was so hoppin’). Our server, Sarah, was fantastic and very patient while I vacillated between drink options. I finally settled on the Virginia Sipper because(A. it is made with Tito’s, need I say more, and(B. we all know my obsession with the state of Virginia. So, a no-brainer! I ended up having 2 of them and that was plenty; read: I found them to be just strong enough. I’m no light-weight but I really stick with wine the majority of the time, other than for Happy Hour or after a particularly rough day. We split the Calamari for our app and it was divine! I was still hungry afterwards and my friend was getting dinner, so I ended up ordering their Heater burger. It comes with a chipotle mayo, jalapeños, Pepperjack cheese and some of the best fries. I couldn’t finish the burger so it made for a lovely lunch the next day. The bathrooms were clean(always important) and the checks came quickly once we asked for them; Sarah was kind enough to split them fairly, as my drinks made my share more expensive than that of my friend’s. It is always much appreciated when servers are willing to do that, as I imagine it is more than a bit of a pain. In sum, my second experience at Blackfinn was much better than the first; while still quite a noisy establishment, Blackfinn has improved in the quality of their management and continues to roll out tasty drinks and sustenance! Job well done.

I am torn between giving Blackfinn 3 or 4 stars. It’s a good, reliable place to get a drink and a meal. And you can walk there from the Dunn Loring Metro stop, which is a nice plus. The atmosphere is a sort of clean, nice sports bar kind of feel. There are tvs all over the place. It has a generic, but very comfortable sports bar feel, with clean bathrooms. I really do appreciate the cleanliness of this place. I have generally been to Blackfinn for happy hour or dinner. There is a happy hour menu available both in the dining area and at the bar(not only at the bar, as you will find in some downtown establishments). Typically, the happy hour has pretty good deals for a few glasses of wine and a few beers. They also often have discounts on their flatbread appetizers, which are a nice starter for two. The drink prices are otherwise a tad high, and I have to say that I have not been impressed with their cocktails. I would stick to beer or wine here. The food is good, middle of the road bar food. The burgers are good, but on the heavy side. And considering how heavy the burgers are, I would expect them to be more flavorful, if that makes any sense. The burgers feel a bit processed, I suppose. The cuban sandwich is a nice choice, as are a number of the salads. Their best sandwich is probably the buffalo chicken sandwich. Overall, it’s good bar food. There is a lower calorie menu as well. The servers are always super friendly here, and I have had the manager randomly check in to see how everything is on multiple occasions. So overall, I have never had a bad experience here. I have been to the Blackfinn location in DC(at 16th and Eye Streets) dozens of times, and I can say that the Dunn Loring location is far superior in terms of service, both friendliness and consistency. That said, the hostesses here are often unfriendly or cold. And on multiple occasions, the have been less than accommodating. Blackfinn is not going to change your life. But if you are looking for a friendly, clean place for a drink or dinner after work, this is a good option.

I am always impressed every time I come here. The hostess and overall staff are very helpful and welcoming. I have only had dining experiences each time. Met with a friend for a post-birthday and ate on the dining room side for the first time. I usually sit on the bar side– which is a lot of fun, plenty of tv’s. I had hot tea — unfortunately the hot water was on the lukewarm side, so they had to microwave it to get it just right, but no worries. I ordered the Tortilla Chips and Queso as my appetizer which was really nothing to write home about — I would not recommend it. My friend ordered the spinach-artichoke dip with bubbling hot, melted cheese and fresh pita chips which was very impressive. I would highly recommend this appetizer. For my entrée, I ordered the Queen City Chicken, a bacon-crusted chicken stuffed with sausage, pepperoni, pepper jack cheese, alongside of mashed sweet potatoes, and grilled asparagus. OMG! This entrée is the business. Perfectly cooked, tender with a little crispiness from the bacon crust, the inside — cooked tender to perfection with so many cool layers of flavor. My meal was so yummy, I decided to take I was very pleased with the meal, the service, and the environment. I highly recommend Blackfinn!

I’ve been to Blackfinn Ameripub for a previous YEE, so I was familiar with some of the offerings they have on the menu. Going for the classic American pub style, the restaurant offers brunch, lunch, a full menu, as well as specialties, vegetarian, and GF options. I actually called ahead for a to-go order, as I had heard about their yummy Funnel Fries. Fairground-style, I was surprised at the amount that they give you! The funnel fries tasted great, as the batter that was used was super tasty; they were super fresh and crispy and served with 3 dipping sauces(raspberry, chocolate, and caramel). I actually opted for all raspberry(kind of like a ‘jelly donut’ style) — the raspberry had a tart syrupy taste to it, and I think I would have preferred strawberry-flavored instead. Either way, the fries were addicting, not too sweet, covered with a perfect amount of powdered sugar, and you can also substitute the sauces and/or ask for additional ones. Placing the order was a breeze; the hostess was super friendly and sweet, and the food was all made fresh. The place was jampacked, and I’d love to go back and try out their other small bites and deserts: D +Funnel Fries: D +to-go orders accepted +friendly staff!

Boy, why was the bar empty at 5:00pm? It could have been the snooty female bar server! They ran out of hubby’s first beer choice and her attitude was«oh well what’s your next choice». It was like she was doing us a favor by taking our order! Oh and don’t get me started on giving our food order… I honestly felt like this person did not want to serve us! Thank goodness for the male bar managers! They were great! They offered options and gave food recommendations! Now that is service! The food was typical bar food. We ordered off the happy hour and regular food menu. Presentation on the pulled pork sliders was meh! Seriously. Please add a dab of coleslaw or even a pickle. One of the sliders honestly had little to no meat. An $ 8 happy hour price for 3 tiny sliders deserves a tiny bit of garnish! The wings were great and served with carrots and celery but they were from the regular menu. Overall, it was a meh experience. One note of advice, the DC location and this location have the same name but don’t use the same POS system so gift cards are not interchange.

Me and my bf came here to watch a Caps game on a Wednesday night and it was PACKED! We had to wait about 10 – 15 minutes to get a table on the dining side but we stood around at the bar watching the game since they literally have TVs in every corner so you don’t miss a thing. Luckily their daily specials apply both to the bar and dining side so we still were able to enjoy our half price glasses of wine and the game because we sat right next to a tv! Before we ordered I noticed their ‘Blackfinn perks’ sign and decided to download the app because of the free appetizer you get when you sign up. Uh, hello? Yes, I love free stuff! We used the free app to order the crab cakes which were just okay but since they were the most expensive thing on the menu it just made sense to get it. We also ordered the Mac and cheese with a side of fries. It was pretty tasty and I loved the fact that it came out in a hot skillet and also the cavatappi noodles instead of the regular penne or Mac pasta most places use. The fries were crispy and freshly made and paired as a nice side to our ‘healthy’ post-gym meal. Ha ha. And my glass of cab sauvignon was refreshingly delicious and only $ 5. Our waitress was really nice and despite the busy-ness of the place we got everything fairly quick and then she left us alone to enjoy the game. Don’t forget to dl the app and get ur free appetizer! You can also rack up points to dining dollars so that’s also a nice little incentive. The bar gets pretty crowded but usually dining area always has tables open and their hh menu is pretty legit too!
