I visited this restaurant because it is very convenient to the Star Plaza restaurant where I had tickets to a show. The prices seemed slightly higher than I normally see, most likely because of the great location. The garlic mashed potatoes were great and I received a mountain of them. My salmon was good. The Oysters Rockefeller were the best I’ve eaten in quite a while. I would probably try another restaurant next time I’m in the area because there are quite a few near the theater, but it is convenient and the food was good.

Not impressed! Prices are ridiculous for NWI. My steak was overcooked, baked potato was dry, my wife’s twice baked potato was dry and overcooked. The service was good however. We won’t be back

Best meal I’ve had in a long time. Amazing signature filet and crème Brule! The chocolate martinis were a delight. I will be going back very soon.

What’s up with the oil laden sweet peppers served as a complimentary appetizer? Ewwww. Steaks were good and so was the service. Our waitress Tina kept our drinks filled and was attentive. Nice place that I’d visit again when in town.

How did this place get 3.5 stars?! I was ABSOLUTELY disinclined to go to this place given the reviews I read here. Also, the pictures weren’t that appetizing… All that said, the place was good. Admittedly not 5 stars, but absolutely not 3! The steak was good, as was my friend’s, while I knew to be aware of the salt issue, I tasted the steak and then added where needed. While that is a crucial mistake of steak restaurants — to mis-season — I knew the issue going in, so I can’t be that disappointed. Really, my review is more positive because of how underwhelming the Unilocal pictures were and because I actually read the reviews. All the sides were tasty. I apologize the review isn’t more detailed, it has been a few months since I was there, but it was absolutely worth going. A different vibe from Gamba, the only other decent restaurant in Merrillville.

In town for work and decided to stop in. So glad I did. Food was incredible and the service was impeccable ! I returned 2 more times that week. I also LOVED the house made peppers in olive oil that they serve before dinner. I would have bought some to take home but I didn’t trust flying with them:(

Really good service & food. Waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. Chicken Vesuvia was very good. Vesuvia style potatoes were a little soggy. Friends I was with really liked the veal Vesuvia and ravioli.

Food was perfect… after we moved inside. The bugs were biting a little and made it uncomfortable to sit outside… took a tad before we got to order our first drink, there was hair on the butter, bread was hard but they replaced … made it all good waitress was attentive and took care of us…

This place has it all, a great bar, delicious filet mignon, and some of the best desserts in area. The staff is always friendly and prompt. Highly recommend this place for a higher end dinner.

I have not been to Gino’s Steakhouse in a couple of years and back then their prime rib sandwich was excellent. My husband and I stopped there yesterday for lunch. We each ordered the prime rib sandwich. I ordered soup and my husband ordered French fries. The prime rib was one thin slice with a few thin slices of portobello mushrooms. The«au jus» on the side was so salty we could not eat it. My husband’s French Fries were soaked in grease and tasted disgusting. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this establishment. It was a real disappointment.

Great meal, great service, but watch certain things: The roasted peppers served as an entrée were, as always, a delight. Also ordered a former favorite from the old Illinois location, tomato bread, and it was less than impressive. Given the choice or soup or salad, I chose the lobster bisque, but will not do that again. It was somewhat tasty, but lacked the richness and textures that i have experienced elsewhere. The full rack of barbecued ribs for $ 24 was a great entrée; portion was hearty and the meat was nicely cooked and seasoned. The homemade french fries were excellent as well. All in all, it was a good meal for the money and actually no more expensive than going to our favorite haunt for Friday night lake perch. Service was excellent and the staff went out of their way to make us comfortable.

Disappointing is the best description I have. I had read all of the reviews and reluctantly decided to try Gino’s anyway. Positives: Good service. Nice ambience. Great bread and peppers. Peppers were best part of the meal, and they are free. Decent whiskey selection. Negatives: Weak drinks. For $ 10, I expect a decent whiskey pour. Steak was mostly flavorless. Gino’s should start buying their meat at Costco as this would be a substantial upgrade. Compared to a Chicago steak house, $ 42 for a porterhouse is normal and you get a salad and potato included at Gino’s so the price is reasonable, if the meat were better. Bottom line, don’t bother to come here. The Unilocal term Meh seems to fit really well. It was not horrible, more like one of those nights where you got a steak at Jewel and crossed your fingers. And lost.

I was hoping so much to give a higher rating. Unfortunately the steak(even though cooked perfectly as I ordered) was tasteless. I ordered the $ 41 bone-in ribeye. The house bread that came out seemed homemade or at least home seasoned because on top of bread was Rosemary etc. I had the lobster bisque soup. It was very hot in temperature, thankfully. But lacked flavor. There was definitely some lobster taste to it, but not enough in my opinion. The garlic mashed potatoes were excellent. Again the steak… very depressing. I ordered it medium rare and it was Perfectly Pink inside. But, no seasoning at all. And it was served in au jus, which I didn’t realize on menu. I wish it was served with gravy on it??? Last thing, service was Excellent. That brought my 2 star decision to a 3 star. Overall, I won’t be back.

Everytime we take a trip to Chicago we stop to eat here. It’s a tradition! The food is excellent. There is a wide variety of choices. The staff is wonderful. Enjoy the marinated peppers which come to your table. You want chicken? Try the piccata. Beef? Can’t miss with a perfectly cooked filet. Seafood? They have a wide variety to choose from. Shrimp, roughy, perch. Veal, lamb, oysters, the list goes on. Dessert? Wait till you are presented with their dessert tray. Crème brûlée, tiramisu, chocolate cake. Unbelievable. And at a reasonable price. Why this place has anything less than five stars is baffling.

A Ruined Valentines Day Night Out! We went here for a Post Valentines dinner on 2⁄15. The food was OK, the bill was $ 136 to which we added a $ 30 tip. Much to my dismay – once I returned home– when I checked my bank account afterwards they charged my card an EXTRA $ 85 on TOP of the $ 136 + tip,(there were TWOCOMPLETELYDIFFERENTCHARGES/TRANSACTIONS – when I only signed for ONE!) which they said could not be reversed immediately because«There was no manager on duty»(it was 5 pm) and I was told I’d have to wait until tomorrow(I was already at home when I realized the overcharge) or when a manager came in next week. We were planning on using THAT remaining $ 85 after dinner to finish our evening out but had go home because of this fiasco. Still waiting for a call, an apology and the money that they OVERCHARGED me for no reason. There’s too much Credit Card Fraud going on these days, I’m glad I caught the overcharge immediately. This used to be a favorite place for steaks for us, but we won’t be returning. UPDATE: No Manager or Representative called us upon the opening of the store as promised. After calling ourselves to rectify the situation today 2⁄16: 1) we spoke to a VERYRUDEMANAGER who informed us she’d look into it and call back. She NEVERCALLEDBACK. 2.) After calling back a second time, because we never received the return call we were promised – we were then hung up on. 3.) We called back a third time to communicate back with the extremely RUDE«MANAGER» who never returned our call in the first place AND… were told«Oh, That’s normal to see unwarranted charges and«it does that sometimes” – (shows up with the wrong amount on my account? — but will correct itself in 24 – 48 hours!!! What a SCAM Stay tuned while I watch my bank account to see if this unauthorized charge is removed or if someone got an $ 85 tip from scamming us after we left. Oh, and we received NO apologies, just rude people on the phone… one after the other…

This was our second appearance and the steaks were cooked incorrectly both times, for $ 40 a cut this shouldn’t be an issue. The double baked potato I got was extremely chewy like it had been frozen and everything else was average, nothing you couldn’t have received for a portion of the price. Gave it a second chance, will not return.

This was one of the worst, most overpriced, meals I have had in NW Indiana in a long time. I don’t know why they think their restaurant is in Chicago… $ 40HALIBUT! I don’t even pay that at well known seafood restaurants downtown. Not only was it overpriced-the food was so salty I could barely finish my food. I truly believe not one of the sauces was taste tested before it was served and I tried 3 different sauces at the table. I will not be returning.

The ambience of the restaurant was ok. The waitress was exceptionally rude. The food was subpar at best and severely overpriced. The chef was the best part and the reason for the two stars. He came table side and made bananas foster. He was extremely friendly to my children too. There is no kids meal, although there were children inside. To my family, who travels a ton, it seemed like an overpriced hangout for local upper class snobs! Definitely will not be coming back to this restaurant even it was free!

I am shocked to see anything less than 5 stars for this restaurant. I took my mom here for Mothers Day and everything was absolutely wonderful. We didn’t really know what to expect because we didn’t know anyone who had ever been there, but we decided to try it out anyway. Thank God we did! Beautiful atmosphere and it wasn’t even crowded. The server was wonderful and the appetizers were delicious! They serve this buttery garlic-y oil with peppers to dip your bread in. It sounds strange(and I’m not a fan of peppers) but this dipping oil was delicious. The waitress even packed up the last of the dip and peppers for us to take home! My mom ordered the steak salad and I ordered the Chicken Parmesan. The wait was average and the portions were huge! We stuffed ourselves and still had plenty to take for leftovers. Then, the waitress offered dessert. At first, we weren’t going to get anything because we were quite full, but then the waitress brought out a platter with every dessert item on there, so we can see them in person. The crème brûlée caught my eye, but they also had tiramisu. We ordered both and they were delicious! For $ 60, we got a full meal with dessert and plenty of leftovers, not to mention great service. I’d say it was more than worth it! I will definitely return!

Ok. This is a tough one. Service was outstanding. . I ordered the surf and turf(16oz lobster tail and 9oz filet). Was not very impressed with either. I mean they were ok. but when one charges $ 100 for a dinner I expext it. To be amazing. The lobster had a strange texture almost like it had been frozen. The filet had the taste of iron. I would probably go back to try something other than the surf and turf. Another thing. I was drinking crown and ginger until the bar tender started using Sierra mist. then she ran or. I’d crown while making my last drink.. And instead of getting another bottle she just poured my drink with a minimal amount of crown. she had to know I was watching but oh well.. next time b eer it is
