Convenient location but service is terrible. Worst produce anywhere and stuff they carry is always changing. Avoid if possible.

The only saving grace of this hell forsaken place is that they have cartons of cigarettes for cheaper than anywhere else in the area. Otherwise, this place is so expensive and the store doesn’t carry so many of the items that I usually buy when I’m at MB. Hear Merrimack’s prayers grocery store Gods!!! We want a Market Basket! We already have to pay tolls to get in and out. Don’t make us suffer more with high priced groceries.

I generally like shopping at Shaw’s, but the layout to this one is weird. It seems like the produce department takes up half the store. It is really hard to run in and out at this one. The shelves are very high and very close together. it feels almost claustrophobic at times. Lots of blind spots. Its easy to bump into other people, especially coming in and out of the aisles. I’ve been in this store four separate times and I don’t think I haven’t had a smooth transaction yet. Some issue has come up that is a relatively simple fix that ends up turning a mountain out of a molehill because the cashiers are either not enabled to fix or don’t know how to fix. The later usually being the case. I’m talking easy, easy stuff like voids for overrings, groceries forgotten that the cashier bagged, needing change for cashback, some coupons, etc. Lots of high school aged kids up front who seem to be more interested in gabbing than paying attention to the transaction… well more than most grocery stores.

Shaws has Merrimack in a stranglehold and seems to enjoy reveling in their power over us. Aside from convenience, this store on Continental Blvd has almost nothing going for it. The produce and meat selection is much smaller than other stores it’s size, including the other Shaws in town. Prices are higher than competing stores in neighboring towns, and(this is my biggest complaint) constantly mismarked. Nearly every time I shop at this Shaws, I can find at least one item for which I was charged more than the price on the shelf. Cashiers ring in produce as the highest-priced option(sweet onions instead of yellow, etc.) with such regularity that they must be instructed to do this. I have confronted the management about this, and they claim the cashiers simply don’t know their produce. Apparently this is acceptable as it hasn’t changed since the day this store opened. The management willingly adjust my bill to match the shelf prices, but since these changes are only recorded on a paper ledger, I don’t see how the next shopper won’t encounter the same dishonest practice. Bottom line: Shaws does not have to consider customer service because they have no competition in town. I can only suggest that other Merrimack residents join me in shopping at the Market Basket at the south end of Continental or the Hannefords at Exit 6. These stores are both far superior to Shaws, and MB is noticeably less expensive.
