It has all the benchmarks that you look for in a facility like this. The building and grounds appeared to be in good condition, and were clean and well maintained. There were no bad smells, and the facility was large enough that were many areas where different groups of people were congregating. It was open, well-​lit, with brightly colored decorations.
Since there were many different levels of independence among the residents, the environment wasn’t too depressing, unlike some group homes or nursing facilities. There appeared to be plenty of opportunity for socializing. They offer numerous activities and had a restaurant-​style café where residents can eat together. They also have a salon, store, and game room where people can congregate.
Another perk is that they have a large compliment of staff available for care needs, and a rehab center on site for those who need it, for example, stroke victims. This is unique among the locations and is a great option if you have someone who needs this kind of service.
Also, Brookdale is part of a larger «national chain» style of facilities, meaning that they have many locations, and transferring somewhere else when there is availability doesn’t incur extra facility charges. This was attractive to me because at some point, I may want to move my loved one closer to where I live, and this can be done with minimal disruption to services and finances through Brookdale. It also shows that the company knows what it is doing and can provide the services needed.
Overall, Brookdale should definitely be on your short list of places to consider if you are looking for a facility like this.
