The food for both me and my husband tasted horrible. It was very disappointing considering this was the only Chinese restaurant in Metairie that we trusted because their food used to be superb. The rice smelled and tasted sour! Like seriously with a very long lasting sour taste that we couldn’t get rid of from just one small bite. I tried adding salt and cayenne pepper thinking it would fix it and mope my stomach just got queazy. $ 20 down the drain. We just decided to toss it. Sorry, never eating here again.

This place was terrible. The rice in my lunch plate was not cooked fully and the place looks extremely run down. Would not recommend!

Food was good and service wasn’t bad either. Food was made in timely manner also and it was inexpensive…

I go for the chinese not the sushi(i never expect good sushi from a fast chinese kitchen). Best actual fried rice in the area!!! not that yellow crap that tastes frozen like all the other ones around. I’ve gotten shirmp, fish, white meat chicken & combo it’s all been great, nom nom nom!!! Portions are always very generous, I’m also a huge fan of the general tso’s & crab rangoon, also my favorite crab rangoon in the area. It is a total dive inside but tables are clean. & always consistent with friendliness & quality of food. I admit I’ve not tried much past the fried rice, which 99% of the time I’m going to get it specifically!

Wow, my wife and I were really surprised to enjoy a meal from here. I had heard that their food was bland and not worth eating from in the past… well baby, make way for the new chef in town, cause they must have fired the old one!!! I haven’t enjoyed truly flavorful fried rice like the crawfish fried rice they have in years! Also, although I was disappointed that they were out of pork, I got the sweet and sour chicken instead and to my delight, it was ALL white meat and well worth it. I usually stay far away from chicken at a Chinese restaurant but I’ll order it again from here! If you didn’t enjoy the food from here in the past, I suggest you come back and try it now, as for my wife and I, we have a new favorite!

Been going there for years. Used to be delicious, but after tonight I will never go back again. Everything tasted horrible. Lady working the drive through argued with us about our order. Refused to give us what we ordered until we demanded our money back.

Pretty disappointed in the Egg Roll House. We came here on a Sunday hoping to cure what ailed us(hangovers). Overall, it was mediocre, flavorless and disappointing. I’ve had better«Chinese» at the drive-thru chain place down the street. We went inside to take a look at the menu and order. I got the sesame chicken lunch special with fried rice & egg roll, he got some kind of steak and vegetable lunch special. We ordered bubble tea while we waited. I watched the lady make the bubble tea. No actual fruit is used at all – just syrups, mystery powders, and ice. The ingredients were stored in repurposed containers(ex. an empty Gatorade bottle housed the syrup) which seemed a little unsanitary and probably not health code approved. The end product was a sickly sweet syrupy ice shake with frozen solid tapioca balls. Not pleasant. By the time we got the food home(10 mins later, give or take), it was already soggy and lukewarm :(My sesame chicken was not crispy or flavorful at all. The rice was aiight. The egg roll was soggy and had very little flavor. It was really disappointing. His reaction to the steak and vegetables was«eh» and a shrug. It wasnt terrible, but I will definitely not come back here unless I couldnt possibly find anything better.

I’m sorry but I was HIGHLY disappointed in the food. In fact, I think I make better Chinese food and that is a shame as I am nowhere near ethnically Asian. But hear me out folks! Let me explain. I have been wanting to try this place out for the longest as I am always zipping up and down Veterans Blvd. It looked dirt cheap and it had a drive thru and I just automatically assumed it has great food. In fact, it reminded me of all the hole in the walls in Brooklyn that I used to frequent. And therein, I think lies my problem. Excuse me as I reminisce ya’ll… You see, where I come from there is so many good spots to get good Chinese food it was ridiculous. It was more than you could shake a stick at!(Don’t you just love that saying? Heh! :) Don’t ask about the service tho. You lucky you didn’t get cursed out in New York but hey I’m talking strictly about the food. If you are a regular customer you might get half a smile if you’re lucky but I digress… But anyway, my point is perhaps my frame of reference is skewed. There was good Chinese food, great Chinese food and super duper LAWD have mercy food. There was no room for mediocrity. And that is what This establishment is. Mediocre. Which to my taste buds translate into really really bad. In any event I will tell you what I ordered and you can still listen to the other glowing reviews and you can still try it out for yourself if you want to. Mind you I can not comment on the meat dishes here as I have been meatless for about 15 years.(I CAN vouch that when I used to frequent the spots in Brooklyn I DID have meat dishes when I was younger and yes they were to die for…) Soooo I ordered the broccoli with garlic sauce, fried rice and the vegetable egg roll. It was the lunch special and it was a nice size serving. I was also excited about the fact that they offered a VEGETABLE egg roll and not just a vegetable spring roll which are two totally different animals no matter what people try to tell me. I thought this was an easy dish to try and that no one could mess it up but I was wrong. The broccoli was too sweet. The rice was dry, tough and slightly undercooked. The egg roll was bland. Ugh. Disappointment! Like I said I make a better egg roll at home and I’m not joking. And judging from the other reviews here I am not the only one who is disappointed. Perhaps the meat dishes are fantastic but I say if you can’t handle a simple broccoli dish then I don’t have much hope. Coincidentally I had swung by Pei Wei on veterans blvd for my mom right before this and I tasted their rice. THEIRS was nice and fluffy as it should be! She also said their orange chicken was delicious and looked it too. And BTW if you want a decent vegetable egg roll in the area I say try the Chinese spot in the food court in the Clearview mall. Theirs was actually good! Oh and one last thing. Don’t hold your breath if you want creative tofu based dishes here. They claim to not have bean curd(tofu) in their kitchen(which I think is preposterous but whatever…) Other restaurants can whip up a sesame tofu or orange tofu in minutes even if it isn’t on their menu. Not here though but I must say that they do have a some vegetarian options on their menu.

I love going to Egg Roll House for their Shrimp Fried Rice! For those who are familiar with Chinese Kitchen, I think their rice far exceeds that of Chinese Kitchen because their shrimp are much cleaner. The shrimp fried rice has large deveined shrimp so you don’t have to worry about dirt and grit when biting into your shrimp. Due to dirty shrimp, I could never get into Chinese Kitchen’s shrimp entrees. In addition, you are given the option to add extra shrimp to your rice(x number of shrimp per $ 1). I can’t recall exactly how many, but they are generous. The first time I ordered their rice, I thought it tasted great, but it was a bit too greasy. Since I was pleased with it otherwise, I returned and ordered it again with light oil. I usually eat this rice alone so I always order the regular order of shrimp fried rice with light oil and about $ 2 in extra shrimp; I get a large to go box piled high with rice and LOTS of shrimp. And it costs me under $ 10! I’ve tried the egg rolls, but I wasn’t pleased with them. Too greasy… I also tried the Shrimp and Broccoli entrée, which was very good. Another bonus is that this place has a drive thru. Based strictly on the shrimp fried rice(with light oil), this place gets 5 stars!

Egg Roll House predates the«Generic Dragon» type Chinese places, which I’m still convinced are ordered through Ikea and come in big flat-pack boxes. I forget what was in the building originally, but I seem to recall it having been some other sort of diner or fast food before becoming the Egg Roll House way back in the mists of time.(Back when I was a child & bell-bottoms still roamed the land…) Of course, I’ve been up going on 30 hours, so my recollection may be a bit off…

Despite the name, I wouldn’t go for the egg rolls. The chicken and broccoli was good, however, and the service quick. I love the convenience of the drive through, but their food falls a bit short. Will satisfy the craving for Chinese Food if you’ve got it bad, however…

I love Egg Roll House! I stop here every time I bring my to the car dealership next door for an oil change. I have always enjoyed the typical Chinese cuisine they offer, such as Generals chicken, Lo mien, egg rolls, etc., but recently, I have come to really enjoy the sushi! The sushi bar is a new addition to ERH and although its nothing much to look at, I really do enjoy the experience. I sit at the counter and place my order… the sushi is then prepared fresh. As the sushi chef rolls the sushi, he always delivers a complimentary appetizer of steamed broccoli with a yummy, spice mayo-esque, sauce poured atop. I am not into the real crazy exotic roles, I usually just get the crunchy roll, crawfish roll, or the philly roll and today had the crunchy and crawfish. Its not the best sushi I’ve ever had, but it is good, fresh, and I enjoy the slightly different sauce that they serve it with(like spicy mayo, but something is different). Back to the atmosphere… the shop seems to be operated by a family, with the father, mother, and other members all partaking in different roles in the restaurant. They provide a comforting environment in which to eat and are always attentive to what’s going on in the shop. I can also remember coming here as a little kid some 20 years ago, so this place has definitely withstood the test of time. BOTTOMLINE: A solid option for Chinese, and now sushi, in the busy Lakeside mall area of Metairie. Dine in or drive through, friendly service, and good food!

The good olé’ egg roll house. When I was young and lived in Metairie, my mom used to take me here at least 3 times a week. She always ordered the Moo Goo Gai Pan for me or the chicken with broccoli. I feel for the family that runs this place because I can tell that they work so hard. I wish them the best. They’ve been in business for a long time. I mean if I’m 22 and my mom took me there when I was 4, then that’s what’s up!

This place is take out only restaurant with a drive thru. The menu is a bit confusing and the language barrier, to me, seems to be the only negatives. The food and prices are great. Hit the movie store and here for a great night in.

this place is godsend to college folks. When I was in college and living means were scarce, this place made it possible to fill sushi craves for pennies on the dollar. You will not find a place in this country that offers sushi at a cheaper price(if you do, drop me a message) Food is high quality considering what you are paying for it. Service is fast, and takeout orders are taken care of in a breeze. Nothing like going to this place when you are running low on funds. This is also probably considered one of the cheapest ethnic restaurants in the metro. Enjoy!
