Cool little place in Metropolis, home of Superman. Great shrimp, good appetizers, good sandwiches, cold beer. However, I wish the ordering system was different, but no biggie there. Very cool place, a definite must see if you’re in Metropolis

Wow, I wish there were a place like this closer to home. The burgers were huge and great quality. The fries were crisp and delicious, and the price was very reasonable. Overall 5 stars.

Great place to eat. I have been here about 5 times and it has been really good every time. They have awesome burgers, and try the steak kabob!

Typical bar food, nothing spectacular. The pickles were pretty salty and the wings were just so-so. Staff was friendly.

Certainly the best burger I’ve had in the last ten years, possibly the best ever. The Cajun burger was spiced and cooked perfectly.

Fresh, cooked to order, food is nice. Cat fish was flakey and seasoned well. House slaw uninspired, taste like KFC, house potato salad has a nice tang. Corn bread hush puppies were good(wish I got more than two). Edd’s Signature Sauce on the wings was sweet with just enough much to make it interesting. Definitely a good so in a small town!

Very cool place – and just happened upon it. You order at the counter right when you walk in. Good selection of food to choose from and atmosphere is very casual. It appears to be a popular place so expect the counter line to be long. The peel and dip shrimp is popular here, as is the BBQ and burgers. Surprisingly big place inside. Seems like 50 chefs working(slight exaggeration) and they seem to be efficient. I’d give it a 5 but the wait for someone to take my drink order was ridiculously long. One kid waitress for about 50 people is a bad ratio to provide good service. Turns out the young lady was asked by management to take and serve orders for a large group gathered in the room. Normally people order at the counter right when they walk in. This made for bad service to everyone else in the room – those of us looking for a drink order. The bar in the other room was open, though, and if you prefer to not be a victim, just go there and order your drink. This place is definitely the place to go when in Metropolis.

We came to Fat Edd’s because the casino buffett sucks and McDonalds just doesnt cut it. The«restaurant» has you order your food and pay) at the short order grill then order your drinks at the table. On a Thursady evening we waited 25 minutes in line to order the food. 35 minutes later we were called to the counter to pick up the food. The waitress took 15 minutes to get us water, because the bartender had to make the drinks. Between the 4 of us, we had the bbq burger, mushroom and swiss burger, steak kebob, and potato skins. Decent portions and it was good food. Worth waiting on hour for? Not by a long shot! But since this seems to be the only place in town, what am I going to do?

Walk in and order food. Then find a table and your server takes your drink order. We ordered a cheese steak, cheddar bacon burger, cheeseburger, mushroom swiss burger, grilled cheese, 2 fries, and chips. $ 34. Not bad at all. The cheese steak was more of a steak sandwich, somewhat grisly, with a nice thick mushroom gravy, but not much cheese to see or taste. The burgers were all… burgers. Nothing really exciting. The toppings you add at the end of the counter were very good. Thick tomato slices that were most jummy and bold onions. A very nice surprise. The grilled cheese had a good butter flavor soaked slightly into the bread. The fries were very good. All in all for the price I was satisfied but not really blown away for a first visit by the main dishes. The sides and toppings were solid enough to want to try it again next time we want to see Superman on our journey South.

I have surely enjoyed myself at Fat Edds! LOVE this place. Great atmosphere and fulfilling tasty morsels followed by great drinks and superb service. This is a little Nashville that truly needs expansion! There’s a master mind at work!

The shrimp and wings are delicious. The shrimps were a bit pricey but nonetheless it’s worth it. The burger is good compared to the casino restaurant and much cheaper.

So. Fat Edd’s…it’s a little bi-polar. But in a good way! You walk in and find a place to sit. A server takes your drink order. So far so good! They have display kitchen with flat-top grill and a char broiler so the menu is mostly burgers and grilled meats. Here’s the bi-polar part: you have to get up and go get in line to make your food order and pay at the end of ordering. They fresh cook your food, call your number out and you go pick it up. Oh, and there’s a big barrel of peanuts at the front door so you can scoop you up a bucket for the table or bar. I’ve been staying down the street for five nights(this the last night) and have come down here every night and closed the place down thrice! The food is very reasonably priced as well as the alcohol. Here’s the real tip — the cooks, servers and bar tenders are all great folks and hook you up with some good fun! Christy, the head bartender, creates names for you once you’ve been in for a bit. She said I was Floyd — ok Christy, I’m Floyd…

I’ve been to this establishment about three times now. And each time I had a really great experience. The food is cooked to order after you go up to the counter and place your order. You then find a seat and wait for them to call your number. They have table service for drinks. There are three or four areas to sit and enjoy your food /company. It kind of resembles Fast Eddies in Alton. I had chicken this past visit and was very happy with the quality! Juicy and full of flavor! They had a nice condiment bar so I could top my dinner with romaine lettuce, onion, pickles and tomatoes! If you’re in Metropolis seeing the giant Superman… This place is a great choice for a meal!

Neat little place. Great in atmosphere. We had burgers and peel and eat shrimp. All good. Also had the fried pickles. Yum! Drink orders are separate. Didn’t see waitress for refills. Had to go get our own. Not a bad place when you’re in METROPLOLIS. Only thing missing was Superman!

Okay, We said we were going to cookout today, stop at a Piggly Wiggly and grill a hot dog or something… well we didn’t…We stopped to check out the Statue of Superman, and I saw this restaurant in an awesome old building on the Main drag… So, you know me and buildings… I had to stop! Of course, Tony doesn’t bitch because he can usually grab a much needed BEER in his eyes… So, we went in and OMG… the décor is stellar! It has the bar on one side and the other is the grilling food area… divided down the middle with high dark wood booths… and the bar is matching dark wood. maybe Oak, maybe Mahogany. but GORGEOUS… The waitress seated us and brought us some peanuts. Explained we can walk over and order from the grill(menu on the wall) and they call out your number. She takes the drink order… he ordered a PBR and I ordered a sweet tea with lemon and lime. After Tony came back from the bathroom, I went over and ordered the«Messy Eddy Dawg» which was twin dogs in a basket smoothered with Chili and Cheese. for only $ 5.30 with taxes for both. left a $ 1 tip in the jug. Our drinks were $ 4.00 so I gave her a $ 1 tip. not bad for lunch or a quick bite. whatever you want to call it. In the back under the old staircase there are a few gambling machines for 21 yrs and older. It is roped off. The casino is down the street so this is a gambling town. The machines are Slots(of course) in the adjoining room is some additional tables, TVs and pool tables. It is a really large and nice area to eat and enjoy your family and friends. The building used to be a General Store at one time. There is also a side outside eating area. I will definitely go here again to eat and drink and enjoy a good time in Metropolis, Illinois.

Solid place all around. I actually wound up there twice on the same day. First visit: Lunch with my sales team. I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries. Also, some of their peel & eat shrimp. The burger had a nice sear to it and also the right amount of salt & pepper had been added while it was on the flat top such that it cooked into the slight crust formed by the grill. They seem to be hand-forming their patties because they fall apart slightly instead of being cooked into one homogeneous lump of beef. I actually prefer this style but can’t get them to turn out that way when I cook on the grill. Basic condiments and vegetables were available on a serve yourself basis. Burger was generously sized and the bun was very fresh but the peel & eat shrimp made the meal. Served right off the big pile of ice and with a mild cocktail sauce they stole the show. Slightly sweet, decent size and as far better than I ever would have expected in Metropolis. Second visit: We went across the river for dinner but came back for drinks afterwards. Buckets of beer on ice and an area where we could hang out and BS without excessively loud music was exactly what we wanted and exactly what we got. The only downside is that they had a 10pm closing time… but they didn’t give us the heave-ho for a while afterwards. Had we been afforded the opportunity, the 15 of us probably would have stayed for a couple more hours and spent a pile of money on drinks.
