What can I say this is the best barbershop I’ve ever been too. I’ve been coming here a couple of years now. Jesse is the only barber I’ve had, because once I get a good haircut, I will go back with them only until I get bored or pissed. Where else can you get a haircut, a beer and shot of whiskey.(probably a lot of places now, but it was a first for me). The shaves are incredible, and it’s just a well run and clean place. A very manly feel to the place.

One of the hardest things to replace when you move to a new city is your barber. Indeed, for me, finding a new doctor was way easier(I hit him first try). It took more than a few ridiculously expensive(and shoddy) haircuts on the Beach to find Carr’s, but now I rest easy knowing my head is taken care of each month. A great schtick of Carr’s is the free drinks. A random selection of cold beers, and bottles of liquor are always on hand, and I’ve discovered that the time it takes to complete my haircut is exactly the time it takes me to comfortably finish one Presidenté. I rotated through three barbers before settling on Jesse. He is consistent, thorough, and not afraid to cut it short; I like my haircuts to last. The membership option(unlimited haircuts and/or shaves) is a cool concept, but not worth it for me as I usually cruise 4 – 6 weeks between haircuts.

The barber roughed me up, poking the razor into my scalp repeatedly and using exessive pressure. He also pushed my head around like it was an inanimate object. Inhumane. I complained that the cut was lopsided pointing out some defects and the barber shot back, «that’s just how your hair is, straight and thick.» I then asked to see the back and he became even more bitter. Unprofessional. When I got home I noticed red papules on my neck from their razor, it must not have been shapened properly. I then remembered that the barber dropped the towel on the floor and still used it on my head and neck. The hot towel I was given at the end had brown stains on it, hope it was just burnt. Unsanitary.

For an all-American, short, men’s haircut, this is a reliable establishment. Christian is my man. He does a commendable job keeping me looking like a human being — and not the Chia pet that I might otherwise become. He always offers to wash my hair, give me a shave or bring me a drink(is that vodka and tonic legal?). I always refuse preferring to do the above elsewhere. After paying the $ 25, I feel like a professional has taken care of me. I know I won’t discover a strange patch of skin showing in the back of my head… or find myself sporting a Mohawk without asking for it… or see a part of my ear on the floor. I have simple needs.

Fellas you’ve found your beauty shop. This modern traditional English barber shop caters to men who like to look good but still have a gentleman’s feel to their haircut. Guys expect to be offered a drink, enjoy a haircut, a hot shave, even a mani, don’t worry this is a manly man’s mani. I recommend investing a monthly membership. You can try it out first by calling for an appointment however, walk ins are also welcome. Just look for the Union Jack waving in the wind on Alton.

I hate moving but not for the traditional reasons. Packing and unpacking is no fun, but not having a barber you trust is even worse. I moved to Miami three years ago and just recently found a barbershop that is truly worth returning to. Yes, I made return trips to other places, but it was out of necessity. Simply put, I went back to those places grudgingly. After my first trip to Carrs, I knew the search was over. Upon entering, the owner, Marilyn, offered me a drink — beer, coffee, wine, scotch — my choice. Because I was a walk-up, I was randomly assigned to a barber and I was lucky enough to be assigned to Ramon(last chair, back of the shop, on the right when you walk in). Ramon is an old school barber. Very good with the scissors or clippers. My hair is pretty easy to cut(I get a «1» all over) and Ramon did a fantastic job. After cutting my hair, he took care of all the edges using a straight razor, which is the most important thing to me(I just don’t think you get the same edge using a trimmer). If Ramon isn’t available, I recommend Richard(right across from Ramon) who is just as talented as Ramon minus the straight razor. A haircut will run you about 22 bucks without the tip, but you can always buy a membership, which I recommend. I have the most basic one — for $ 55 a month I get unlimited haircuts. Because I like my hair short, this membership is great for me. Carrs offers other members — follow the link above to see the different memberships available. And for guys who want a little bit more — facial, manicure, pedicure, etc. — Carrs does all of it. If you like an old school barbershop where you can hang out and get a good cut, this is the place to go!
