I have been a member of CRUNCH since relocating to Miami Beach In 2012.
Crunch offers a variety for everyone’s interests and fitness pursuits.
My personal passion is the spinning program headed by Alex Fenton Irias.
Alex and his colleague Kamila Cardenas are both amazing and the core of my fitness training.
Alex is energetic, empowering and entertaining.
Kamila is positive, passionate, and powerful.
They are both motivating and empathic. Additional instructors that I enjoy are Tarra, Francesca and Atara but attend their classes less regularly.
Alex is tirelessly devoted to continually improving the cycling program and cultivating additional talent to be involved.

I was in town for a month for work. I stopped by and Tanya greeted me at the door. I explained to her I was in a 18 wheeler accident about 17 months ago while she was getting me signed up. I ended up getting back surgery as a result from the wreck. So, she set me up with Chris who is one of their trainers. Chris gave me an assessment and pin pointed my problems areas. He was very knowledgeable about my injuries/​surgery and was able to tailor a program just for me. Chris is a great motivator. We spent 5 training sessions together and I felt like I improved from a Seth Rogan body type to Ryan Gosling. He had the presence of mind to constantly ask me if any of the movements we did cause pain or discomfort. Within my short stay here I improved my flexibility and strength greatly with the assistance from Chris. Thanks again!

Horrible gym. Restrooms are never clean.
Save yourself the trouble and find another gym.
Equinox or anatomy are pretty good gyms if you ask me.

The staff is really friendly and the training and classes are great! Chris is my trainer here and he has helped me reach many of my fitness goals. I began working with him back in August, and I have seen great results so far in my strength and overall fitness levels. He even adapted the training when I had a slight injury and kept me safe while keeping my motivation up. Keep up the good work!

Nice neighborhood style gym in SoBe, I have never been here when it’s crowded but I heard it can get very busy. I come early in morning and avoid the crowds and I always enjoy my work out here. The gym is clean, the front desk staff is friendly and the locker room is nice. The gym is small, so there are some things it lacks, and some machines there are only one of, but I enjoy here, and have been pretty happy.

All morning I ran into rude people… and when I got to Crunch I was kindly greeted by Jax the manager and had an amazing work out with Tarra! Thank you for being so great… apparently it’s rare these days.

Solid 3.5 for the spin class I took while in Miami Beach. Definitely got a good workout — lots of hard short intervals. The music was a touch too loud, it was hard to hear the instructor but I used visual cues because I was in the front row. The room is definitely small, but I didn’t feel too cramped, not sure how the back rows felt. The instructor really made this great with all her positive energy.

This place is dirty and lacks decent facilities. The equipment is often broken.
And just this past week, they eliminated the towel service to save money.
It is amazing that Crunch has attached their name to this substandard place.

This gym is all about working out! Why they are worth checking out: nice, genuine staff, great deals, and a friendly and energetic environment. Their trainers are knowledgeable and you will definitely get your money’s worth. If you do train with any of them they will, without a doubt, change your body for the better.
I didn’t feel the pressure of the paperwork there, as other reviewers have mentioned.

Hey Unilocalers, see that little ad above for «7 FREE days» at Crunch? Let me tell you a little story about this ad.
I went to try to use my 7 FREE days because, hey, I want to try a gym for FREE when it’s shouted at me from a Unilocal page. I’m used to the typical gym sales pitch — omg I’m offering you 50 percent off for the next 30 minutes only cuz ur special! — which I gladly sat through. But the sales pitch was, randomly, before I had tried the gym for FREE. So I’m supposed to sign up for your awesomely discounted gym before I even touch a piece of equipment?
I also had the pleasure of undergoing a «fitness evaluation.» I use that term lightly because I was told I’m «clinically obese» and «at risk for type 2 diabetes,» which is absurd because I’m not either of those things. Of course I could lose stand to gain some more muscle but I’m literally at the bottom end of the scale for a BMI test of obesity. So. STFU.
Oh, and when I demurred and didn’t sign up immediately (before even trying any equipment) the employee told me he could «comp» me this one visit only. So much for my «7» day pass. Oh, and the gym is small and smells. In sum: Avoid.

Rejoined Crunch after doing the South Beach scene of workout places. I went back for it’s fabulous selection of classes and great staff. You are offered the latest in training and best instructors on South Beach. Can’t say enough about trainer Nikki De Caro… she is wonderfully professional and the girl knows her stuff! Help me train for 3 half marathons. And another great thing about Crunch is I can workout at both gyms; Alton Road and Washington Avenue.

Run Yogi Run Fridays are always a great surprise and challenge to the body and mind, nothing like seeing the sunrise while working out at the 1111 Lincoln road stairs.
On Tuesdays Mornings at the Alton location I take Chisel with Carole, her influence of Pilates and yoga make a difference as well, she is fantastic and knowledgeable helping with your body awareness and coordination.
All these classes are instructed with a very holistic, positive and fun aproach.
You will burn calories, create beautiful energy to carry you out thru the day and make friends with the awesome folks from class who wake up early to accomplish a happy and healthy day.

I love this gym!!! For three reasons: 1.- my trainer: she is the best!!! Niki de Caro is not only an exceptional trainer, she is an excellent human being, a great person! So smart and very convenience for me to help me to reach my goals! 2.- it’s open from very early until late!!! 3.- all the people that i have met in the gym are great people!!! Not only the ones that they go like me to exercise, but also the people that they work in the gym, like the trainer John Cunnigham and the rest of them! So nice people works in crunch!!! Very nice GYM!!!

grauenhaft! warum? nun, ich habe den beitrag schon auf englisch geschrieben. ich war für rund 3 wochen in miami beach und wollte das 7 tage probe abo einlösen welches man abschließen kann auf dieser seite. leider wurde dies vor ort in der alton road nicht akzeptiert! mir wurden nur tagespässe zu je 74 $ angeboten!!! pro tag 74 $. ich habe einen rundgang gemacht und gesehen, dass einige cardio geräte überhaupt nicht mehr benutzt werden können. die musik ist unerträglich laut, da vor dem studio im moment straßenarbeiten stattfinden. (gut, da kann das studio nichts dafür). einen 7 tages pass, der eigentlich gratis wäre, wurde mir nach langem diskutieren um rund 180 $ angeboten. das wären bei 3 wochen aufenthalt 540 $. aber anscheinend gelten diese preise nur für touris, denn einheimische zahlen weniger. ganz klarer fall von abzocke. es gibt jedoch noch ein crunch in der washington ave. dort war ich dann nicht mehr. vielleicht ist es dort anders. aber dieser beitrag bezieht sich NUR auf das studio in der alton road.

I have been a member for about 6 years, with Crunch as either my primary or secondary gym, or now, as my only gym. I go about 4 times a week, mostly in the afternoons before 4.
First the plusses:
–The price! Has to be the best value on the beach. I pay in the $ 70 range each month, tax included, which gives me access to both Alton Rd. and Washington Ave. location.
–Lots of equipment. Pretty much everything you would need.
–Unpretentious, diverse, eclectic mix of members, simply there to work out and not just to «be seen,» as was the case at the old David Barton gym, or to look at celebrities, as at Equinox, or to run into some business prospect as at Sports Club L.A. on Brickell. It’s sort of «reverse chic.» There are a few people there that I know have mega mega millions, but you would never guess it. I’d call the gym «authentic South Beach.» Pretty much anyone would feel comfortable there.
–Location. Walkable for me, and near Lincoln Rd, Alton shopping areas, so I can combine gym with errands, or entertainment without need for a car. There’s usually cheap (for residents) Miami Beach city parking in the lot in back weekdays off-​season and weekend mornings — especially useful when it’s especially hot or rainy.
–Staff that stays in the background, not trolling the floor trying to sell PT, as I have seen in other health clubs.
–Personal training is good. I did a course of 20 or 30 PT sessions a few years ago. Very helpful at losing 20 pounds and reconditioning after a multi-​year work /​business travel binge. I’d say my guy — he left a year or two ago — was about as good as I what I encountered at super high-​end Sports Club L.A. and Sports Club NY.
Now the minuses, most of which I forgive because of the low cost: the you-​get-​what-​you-​pay-​for principle.
–Ambience. It’s, well, «basic.» The space is a tad too dark for my tastes, and the space is shaped like a shoebox, so I find myself always walking up and down the central aisle.
–It’s a little crowded at times. The machines are close together and since D. Barton closed there are noticeably more people on the floor. There does not seem to be a slow period anymore. A new gym is opening up on 20^th to replace DB, so maybe that will alleviate some of the crowding.
–The maintenance needs to be a little faster. I note some machines are down for repairs for up to a week at a time. And sometimes the stirrups on the cable machines go missing so you have to raid an adjacent machine. But again, there’s the price.
–Small men’s locker room. But this isn’t NYC so you don’t need to change back into your coats and sweaters, so no real problem.
So, all in all, a good value. Like an old, favorite restaurant that serves moderately priced, tasty comfort food year after year, but without much glitz or glamour.

Gym? Nice. It’s got all of the equipment you might want for a good workout. The sales staff on the other hand leaves much to be desired. Perhaps it’s the crushed ego of a salesman screaming in agony that makes one tear the sales sheet to pieces when a member will «think about it» and will «come back tomorrow». Those are the membership terms you offer? I understand. Lacking a better option I’ll gladly return on your terms but the dramatic display worthy of a performance at The Globe certainly makes for an unpleasant and unlikely return. Who flips the board of checkers over throwing all the game pieces into the air? The loser.

I like the equipment and the gym more so than most gyms in SoBe.
I’m re-​editing this review again… Switched to anatomy. Much better equipment and way friendlier staff. Still train at crunch on occasion.

Nice gym if you want clean equipment, space to stretch and some cool classes. Less so if you want help as instructors and staff spend more time flirting and chatting than offering advice and seem ill informed about people with injuries; if I say I have a serious back issue and see a surgeon don’t tell me I don’t need to check with them as your PErsonal trainers know all «about backs».

I like this gym and the fact that there is usually paid short-​term parking available to use it. There is also a deco bike station nearby which is good for the city location.
What I don’t like about this gym is that the aerobics classes consistently start up to 10+ minutes late without apology or explanation, and my last class I did here finished 10 minutes early, again without explanation. I made it a point to ask the instructor what was going on and how long the class was, he responded that he had to go teach elsewhere therefore he was ending the class early (again without apology or explanation when he did this), and all of the members seem to accept these practices and think this is okay — or maybe standard for Miami.
When I make the effort to get out of bed to go do an hour long aerobics class, I am doing it to get that hour. I could certainly go do half an hour of cardio on a machine by myself at a time that is convenient for me — and feel constantly let down with how these classes are run (to the point that I have expressed this to management — repeatedly). Some of the core of the classes are generally good, but many of our yoga classes are extremely lazy to the point that the instructor will simply sit for an entire hour and dictate what to do (whether you understand what she is saying or not) — is it so hard to stand up and briefly show a demonstration of the more advanced moves?
This location seems to be cleaner than Washington Street, and a bit nicer as well. But overall, I think there needs to be better management of the hidden aerobics room that is not really managed at all — because if the managers did actually see what was going on up there with their constant 50 minute and much less classes, hopefully they would get back on track to providing what is advertised.

I chose this gym for a trial membership b/​c of the location and they said I could cancel any time with no penalty. I told them I would pay after a month if I decided to continue and told them they were not authorized to charge my debit card.
The gym is dated and the men’s locker room is worse than a typical high school and it smells horrid. After a month I decided it was a rip off and told them I was cancelling. They charged my card anyway and then started hitting me with unwanted text messages, emails and calls at all hours. They are basically scam artists and bottom feeders.
I am filing a complaint with the BBB and the State Attorney for unauthorized use of my debit card.

All I wrote about them before still stands, I just have another peeve to add to the list. Unwanted emails are annoying at best. Unwanted texts, on the other hand, are unacceptable (some people have to pay to receive text messages…). The day I was leaving Miami I got three consecutive texts about a new offer. My response: «Please don’t contact me again.»
The same scenario happened a month later: three consecutive text messages asking if I wanted to renew my membership. I guess they didn’t understand the first time, so I sent a new reply: «Stop texting me. I am not interested.»
So they removed me from their text listserv (I’m not their only victim, gasp). But this just goes to show how needlessly pushy this gym is. Guys, take a chill pill, please.
