$ 43 for 2 mojitos. ouch! The drinks were on point, but the prices are way too steep. They get you with the 18% added gratuity, but even so its a bit excessive.

One of the most grandiose, larger-than-life bars I’ve ever seen in North America. Trying-too-hard 1960’s minimalist plastic seats and trendy-esque cocktail tables pepper this corner of the Fontainebleau lobby. I’m not one to quibble about paying top dollar for cocktails in trendy places, but Red Bull Grey Goose at $ 24 a pop is just plain absurd; I can certify that this price indeed beats out what I’ve encountered in Hong Kong, London, and Shanghai. And another thing… is it just me, or are women in Miami too old to party? Most look like they’re in their late thirties and into their forties. I’m used to the youthful LA scene, and seeing this makes me slightly uncomfortable.

Well, let me preface by saying, this is a poolside bar, and poolside bars at fancy resorts are always lovely. They’re also always overpriced. But heck, you pay for the atmosphere. I can roll with that! I still paused a little at the $ 17 price tags on drinks. But like I said, I understand. I ordered a dirty Stoli martini. The bartender missed the dirty part, but no biggie, I told her as she was getting ready to pour and she fixed. After that, it was fine. Had to be served in a plastic cup, but I’m guessing that was because they were poolside, which is cool. Having worked in the service industry myself for many years, I always tip over 20%, always. Unless the service is hideous. So, on a $ 50 tab, I tipped $ 11. A few drinks, pricey, but like I said, I’ll pay for the experience. It wasn’t until the next day that I looked closely at my receipt. 18% grat automatically added. That made me a tad angry … that meant a $ 19 tip on a $ 50 tab. Sorry, but the service certainly wasn’t worth that. Like I said, I’m a service industry alum, so I get it. But whenever I worked anywhere that we added grats, I circled the grat or told the customer directly, because I thought it was crappy to deceive them. Apparently the folks at Glow don’t feel the same way. Hate to be bitter, but like I said, I’ve always been a big believer in honesty, and I know when they’re purposely trying to get a double grat. Well, it worked, but I won’t be going back to Glow.
