I have had some very bad experiences with dentists(read my previous reviews to see how horrible!), so when I started getting intense pain from my wisdom teeth, needless to say I was extremely nervous. I have never had a cavity, nothing more than a cleaning, in my life. Dentists have been telling me for years that I should get my wisdom teeth removed, but I was terrified and kept putting it off. Last week the pain was so unbearable that I had to go in. A dentist friend of mine in Philadelphia suggested I go straight to an oral surgeon. I called all over South Florida, from Homestead to Boca looking for a surgeon’s office that seemed like the right one. Every time I was treated poorly on the telephone, I crossed the office off my list. Eventually I found Blum-Nico and set an appointment with Dr. Eduardo Nicolaievsky. Their customer care over the phone and in person is outstanding, so extremely polite and caring, exactly what I was looking for in a surgeon’s office. I wasn’t able to make an emergency appointment in their Aventura location, but they put me on a waiting list and gave me their closest available appointment(only three days later) at their Miami Beach location. I have been to Mt Sinai Hospital many times, twice for surgery, so I loved that Dr. Nico was affiliated with them. Their Miami Beach location is right on the Mt Sinai Hospital property and the office is gorgeous. As I was being examined I had a floor-to-ceiling view of the ocean. Dr. Nico was concerned about how much pain I was in and was able to make special arrangements to come in early two days later to perform my surgery. Everything was under full anesthesia, which I greatly appreciated. I walked into his Aventura location at 7.30AM, surgery started at 7.40AM and I was wheeled out by 9.00AM. All of his staff were so caring, they made several follow up calls throughout the next few days and even Dr. Nico himself called me personally to follow up after I told one of the nurses that I was in a lot of pain. I had the surgery on Thursday, by Sunday I was starting to have less pain, Monday I had two of the stitches out and Tuesday the other two stitches dissolved. I am still in pain today(Tuesday), but Dr. Nico said it may take a few weeks to fully recover. Dr. Jeffrey Blum, head surgeon of Blum-Nico, is also the Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach. To me that meant I was getting the best care I could possibly find. With my Delta Dental insurance the whole surgery, so far, has cost about $ 700. It is well worth the extra money to go to a surgeon, who can take out all of the wisdom teeth at once and they provide such amazing care. I wish I could continue to see Dr. Nico for all of my dentist visits — yet I hope I won’t need him again!
