This Park is advertised as The Maurice Gibb Memorial Park. We drove to Miami just to visit this park. Although the park itself is serene with a beautiful view, I was highly disappointed that there was no large signage to pay tribute to a man that has done so much for that community, UNICEF, and the world. We were not sure we were at the correct place so we stopped a Park worker and asked if it was The Maurice Gibb Memorial Park and he relied that he had never heard of it but he would go ask his co-worker. He returned to our vehicle and reported that yes, the part that was the Memorial was just the kiddie park. We thanked him and went over to the kiddie park and found this one sign. A bench that Maurice sat in was advertised as part of the Memorial as well. It was no where to be found. At least I couldn’t find it! Come on Miami! Put up a larger sign! Pay tribute to this kind, generous man that was not only a BEEGEE! But a son of your city!

A little park with a little bit of different things. A tiny little wooden dock in the mangroves. A little playground with lovely built in shade canopy. A small grassy area. A small amount of picnic tables to bring over your lunch from Publix. A small Public boating ramp(free) with space for about 20 vehicles and their trailers.(Must arrive before 9 am on weekends to get a trailer spot, but its free parking with a trailer. Cannot park overnight). Also in the park, headquarters for Miami Beach Marine patrol. There are about 50 parking places for cars and it gets full quickly.(1.25 an hour?, and they definitely will ticket you if you aren’t paying for your parking). You will be overwhelmed by the gorgeous sunset, be sure to slow down and make space in your life for a sunset at Maurice Gibb Park.

Formerly known as Island View Park, the park was renamed the Maurice Gibb Park, in memory of deceased Bee Gees member Maurice Gibb. Located at 18th street and Purdy Avenue, the park offers some stunning waterfront views. It is a popular location for couples to sit on the seawall and snuggle up, although there is also a wooden platform on the water, which is covered by trees, for enjoying the breezes. There are condo buildings in the distance, by the Venetian Causeway which passes by the park. Plenty of people also live in the bobbing sailboats, and adjacent to the park are the Sunset Harbour condos, as well as their marina, so it makes for some fun people watching and boat watching. You may also observe one of the sailboat inhabitants jumping into the water to reach land to take a walk around the park, or to paddle on a kayak. The park is very peaceful and serene, and apparently it was a popular spot for Mo(Maurice Gibb). He enjoyed the main highlight of the park: the water views and the boats floating around, so they thought this would be the perfect park to dedicate to his memory. Apparently one of the park benches is the bench he’d always sit on to enjoy the views. There is a commemorative plaque in his honor at the park. The park contains a play structure for kids and is also home to a boat launch. It is handicapped accessible and has a limited amount of parking available on site. If you like smaller parks and enjoy water views, then this park is for you, and being close to the Sunset Harbour dining hot spots is another perk.

There’s scant few green wide spaces in South Beach. Gibb has a sunscreened kid’s playground, plenty of space to picnic, the little wooded boardwark for almost-private romantic moments, the only public boat ramp south I can think of for miles around, and great views of the sunset and bobbing sailboats. Be warned… this is also the unknown homeless hotel. After sunset, all of those benches are basically beds. And the bathrooms provided are a high-level biohazard.
