Tropicale is the poolside bar and restaurant at the Miami Edition. The setting is beautiful, a large open lawn with views to the beach and boardwalk, open lounge spaces with outdoor games like cornhole and giant jenga, and relaxing poolside tables and chairs. Tropicale is a great spot to spend a weekend afternoon with friends or for a casual date. The menu is light, focusing on sandwiches, salads, and light appetizers, such as crudos and other light seafood dishes. I tried the kale salad with jalapeño mint dressing, topped with grilled shrimp. My salad was small, with a decent amount of shrimp but wasn’t very filling. The flavors were light and refreshing and well balanced, as was all the food my group tried. One friend tried the grains salad with chicken and another had the lobster grilled cheese and tuna crudo. All of our food had a very light and well balanced flavor, perfect for hot weather. Again, portion sizes were small and expect to pay $ 15 – 20 per item. The restaurant offers a variety of cocktails, mostly tropical style, but none of which were too exciting. I had a variation on a salty dog, with rum and fresh grapefruit, served in a pint glass with lots of ice. It was tasty but not spectacular, which it would need to be for $ 17. A diet coke will run you $ 5. Service was friendly and accommodating, our food came out at a reasonable pace, and our server offered to get us bread for our salads(which isn’t something normally done here and our request seemed to fluster our server a bit). Overall, it is a pleasant environment with a light and tasty menu, but the overall value may not be here.
