Food was very bad. Runny potato salad, leak soup was salty. Corned beef and cabbage was more like 2 pieces of cabbage in a soup with about 2 oz of chewy beef. Waitress was bubbly and nice — pitchers were $ 10. Food sucks. Eat somewhere else 1st then come for drinks

What is a sports bar? A place that serves beer and a place where you can watch sports. What is an Irish bar? A bar with Irish food, beer, whiskey and soccer playing on the flat screens. What is Waxy O’Connor’s? The suckiest Irish bar. There, I said it. Not because I don’t want you to go there, but because I want Waxy to get in top shape. I mean, whenever I am asked to go to Waxy, I need to find out why we are going. If it is to have a cheap beer, on draft, or to enjoy happy hour, I don’t mind going to Waxy. If it is to get some wings, or maybe something else from the menu, I don’t mind either. But if we are going to watch a game and have some beers, my answer is a resounding and emphatic N-O no. This is because their TV screens are the worse I have ever seen not only at a bar, but even at peoples’ shacks. The flat screens at Waxy O’Connor’s suffer with double image, cloudy and foggy vision, and poor sound. It’s like watching TV in the 80’s, where you had to adjust the rabbit ears to catch a good signal. Come on, this is 2013. If I wanted to know how cataracts would affect my vision, I’ll wait until I retire, thank you very much. I even think that if you grab a bum off the streets, give him food and drink and then tell him he has to watch TV at Waxy, he’ll take a dump and walk out on you. It’s that bad and annoying. Waxy O’Connor’s has a very large space and it is great to come with friends. They also have good beers and good food. There is also a pool table, there is darts, and a jukebox. And they also have very sucky image on their TV screens.

I don’t quite get it. Yes, it’s a chain which means that the ‘authentic Irish experience’ is probably going to be a bit homogenized and watered down… but I don’t get the point.* It’s open late so there’s that and they have the space(and booze) which could produce a raucous good time but… I don’t know. Wait. That’s incorrect. I do know. My Newcastle Brown draft was flat. I told the bartender who was more like o0 than ‘Oh. Sorry, bro. Let me fix that.’ After a brief conversation about why I didn’t want to drink a flat beer, he relented and poured me another. It was flat. I offered him to try it but he declined. To his credit, he didn’t charge me but he also didn’t offer me another pour or suggest a similar draft. He was just… disinterested. As am I. *Especially when said bar is across the street from another Irish pub.

One word«Thor». He was the best bartender ever!!! Voted best fries in South Beach… Looking for guinness, this is your place. Also has a variety of Irish Whiskey… Looking to get away from the touristy techno beet that drives you insane, this is your place…

I just love their patio. In summer time is a great feature to have in a pub. Good selection of beer at a reasonable price. Open late, and staff is very nice. Good for big party of people. Place is very cute inside, and I like enjoying some smoking outside with a beer once in a while

I was visiting Miami for the weekend. I must say this is the chillest place to watch football. The $ 10 pitchers of beer are a PLUS! The bartenders were really nice and checked on us often. I never ordered food so I do not know what that is like. I def will go back and watch the football games on one of their many TVs.

..disappointing to say the least. we ordered wings and a side of beans from take out. beans were tasteless and had way too much syrup. im sure they’re from a can. let me also mention that it was not enough, they barely filled up the cup, less than a quarter to be exact. for $ 3.50? c’mon son! unacceptable. wings were also tasteless but still OK… i mean but those are almost impossible to mess up, right? going back for drinks, never for food. thumbs down!!! october 8th10:45 pm

Came here on a Wed. night because there wasn’t anything else happening at the beach. Drinks and food were okay. We sat at the bar and chilled. A little pricey for the quality you get. I actually like the other location on the river better — I’d rather pay them because they have a really nice outside seating area with a great view. Won’t come back to this one.

a solid irish themed drinking establishment. nice selection of drafts, though i wouldn’t stray too far from the more popular pulls as some of their more select choices tasted a bit stale(smithwicks as well as newcastle, surprisingly). friendly staff and a low key customer base that is obviously more concerned with having fun than judging other party goers for drunken shenanigans. saw a bunch of people throwing the bar napkins in the air, no sweat from the staff, everyone here wants to have fun and they don’t mind how you make it.

We were looking for the perfect place to watch the pacquiao vs. bradley fight. Love the comfort of Waxys. All dark wood little seperate quarters with chairs and tables throughout the perimeter of the bar. There is definitely many flatscreen tvs and chairs for you to view the game/fight from any angle here. For food we tried the chicken breast sandwich, super good. The best part is sitting in the little rooms, I felt like I was watching the fight at home. The service was on point even though it was a busy night. I will be returning to watch the next fight here.

Despite the $ 20 cover charge for both Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals(Heat won!) and the Pacquiao-Bradley fight(PAC man won that fight and thus was robbed!) Waxy’s was a pretty good deal. Notwithstanding the initial aggravation of having to pay $ 20 to come into a bar it’s still cheaper than prime seats and parking at AAA, then G6’ing it to Vegas for the fight! My chicken breast sandwich was slightly bigger than my hand, the swiss cheese was evenly spread and the mixed greens were fresh, not wilted. They brought my BBQ sauce, which I spread on the sandwich and fries. Coke refills were on point, and our waitress provided us timely service, a nice personality and a real life Irish brogue! Cheers to another sports bar spot in the beach!

We came here before going to Mansion across the street. They didn’t even have a cocktail menu. We had to order off the top of our head — I got a cosmo and a jack and coke. The cosmo was almost impossible to down. I usually like my drinks strong, but this was WAY overboard. I swear it was like 98% alcohol, plus a drop of cranberry juice for color. The jack and coke was fine. I guess it’s our fault that we expected good cocktails from a pub.

The Miami Heat were playing on the Road and we wanted to find a Sports Bar which was televising the game with audio. After an exhaustive search, we ended up at Waxy O’Connor’s off SE7th Street and SW1st Ave, several blocks Northwest of Mary Brickell Village. First of all, it’s one of only Sports Bars in Brickell that broadcasts the audio of the game(if that’s important to you). There are numerous high definition TVs throughout the bar. The service on this lazy Sunday afternoon was good, the bar was not crowded except for some diehard Miami Heat Fans. They had a decent selection of draft beer. I opted for a Stella, some Sliders and Potato Skins since I had worked out earlier in that morning. Others in my party ordered the Wings, Quesadilla and Fries. Our server was very good and broke up the bill into separate check — no problem. It’ located right on the Miami River with inside and outside seating. If you want to escape the crowds of the Pubs in Mary Brickell Village, this is a great choice. There is some metered parking in front and in the area around Mary Brickell Village.

I’m not gonna say anything about service, cause the waitress was friendly and funny, and it was her first day. I’m gonna hope that it isn’t an indication of regular service… Great bar for watching sports. Comfy big booths, and everyone had a view of the game. Food was good. Music was ok. It’s just like the gazillion other Irish pubs that have been popping up in the past few years.

Pretty Generic Irish pub, it was interesting to see the food presentation… way better than what you’d expect for pub food. Server was friendly and it was a good bar to hang out at for apart of the afternoon watching the game.

Kiss me I’m Irish! Ok, I’m not. But I had so much fun at Waxy O’Conners I wish I was. LOL! I haven’t been to many Irish Pubs, but I will definitely go back to Waxys. I’m not a big South Beach scene type of gal; however, when I find places like Waxy O’Conners I get excited because it gives me a reason to go to South Beach. I went right after work with a few co-workers for their happy hour. They all had Irish Beers, and I the outcast had a Cranberry and Vodka(It was a rough day, DON’T JUDGEME). I was unaware of their happy hour and was more than thrilled when the waitress showed up to the table with 2 drinks for me. I had the Buffalo wings; they were yummy in my tummy. My co-workers had Waxy Burgers which looked huge, and others had salads. They had the Heat Game on full blast, so I was a happy camper. We were planning on just having drinks, but we ended up eating and watching the entire Heat Game. I will most certainly go back!

Could someone please explain to me the reasoning behind opening up an Irish bar right ACROSSTHESTREET from an existing Irish bar? With the exception of this occurrence happening in Ireland or maybe in Boston, I don’t get it. Who really needs an Irish bar version of a Starbuck’s-bastardization location lovefest? Waxy’s is nice but they could’ve picked a better location or a different theme. It’s cozy and they play some good matches on the tube, but Playwrites, across the street; is mo betta! Sorry, I just call’m like I see’m :)

Waxy’s is located on Washington Avenue, pretty much in the middle of everything, but when you step inside it really feels like you’re in a proper, more upscale, Irish pub. Lots of dark woodwork, etched glass and mirrors, comfy leather booths to sit in, and a large, square wooden bar in the middle of the place with comfy, padded, dark leather stools. Some black granite countertops, dark wood floors with inlaid tiles and interesting light fixtures really help tie the look of this place together. The gold leaf«Waxy O’Connor’s Irish Pub» signage above the bar is a nice touch as well. We arrived here at about 12:30 a.m. on a Friday night and hung out until about 2. There were probably about a dozen patrons here, but this place so large inside that it appeared to be nearly empty when we arrived. By the time we left it had picked up a bit, but I was surprised this place wasn’t packed, as I know the Waxy O’Connor’s in Ft. Lauderdale is insane on Friday nights. They had Smithwicks on tap here, but no cider on tap, only 16 oz cans of Strongbow. I’ve eaten here a few times, food Prices are very reasonable for what it is, even more reasonable than a few of the other Irish eateries I’ve reviewed. By the time we arrived, only the late night menu was available; It all looked like standard, deep-fried bar appetizer fare, nothing particularly Irish about it. This is definitely a place where you’ll find«characters». The night we were here they kept playing music sets from certain artists. There was a 3 song set of Meatloaf(which seemed to last for about 45 minutes), a set of Rod Stewart, etc. Anyway, I looked around and noticed about 3 or 4 folks playing air keyboards, air drums and one guy with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth as he played the air guitar. One of the guys here actually met up with us at the Abbey earlier and followed us here. He was definitely interesting to say the least, but we had a lot of fun chatting with him for a few minutes before he moved to another area of the bar to sit with one of the locals. In all, an entertaining place to come and grab a few drinks and hang out with friends, grab a bit of traditional Irish grub and maybe shoot a few games of pool. If they’d offer cider on tap and figure out how to get a few more patrons in the door so it has a bit more atmosphere, It’d be even better.

Good décor, food and bartender… no complaints here. I came in the afternoon for a quick bite and a drink before heading off to the airport to go home. The place had a couple people in there so I sat at the bar and ordered a Guinness and got a free shot, guess it was their happy hour, bonus! Ordered the bangers and mash which I thought was very good. Granted I was on vacation and went once when it wasn’t bust, but I would go back. I like their tee shirt too, nice quality and fits perfect.
