We checked out Awarehouse during an Art Basel related display/party called Techsupport. This venue in wynwood is pretty impressive as they have 2 floors and a stage area in the warehouse space and a pretty vast outside patio to work with. Inside art both cool and garish adorned both floors while surprisingly good DJs for an art show were spinning — most notably Cocodrills and Patrick M. Apparently Patrick M. is an artist too, explaining why such good musical talent was in the house. There were 2 redbull bars set up on the outside, so we were able to get our drink on fully and enjoy some of the«art»(ie a hamburger sculpture for $ 4,000). Some tequila sponsor was also giving out free tequila shots without chasers which was pure torture… Graffiti artist Rage Johnson was creating some pieces live in the patio and was more than happy to spray up some art on two of our ladies. He did warn them that the paint was poison and non-removable, but this did not deter either of them from being sprayed. I can assure Rage that the paint was in fact non-removable and took a good part of the next day to finally clean off… Overall a great party in a great venue. Looking forward to seeing some other great events in this space.

Although the place is called«Awarehouse» this review is not for a non-denominational church. At least for last night, it was instead transformed into a temple of house music as part of the Smirnoff Exchange event I saw advertised on Unilocal.Ostentibly an exchange with some of England’s best house music DJ’s. Some of Miami’s best would cross the pond. The inside stage was best withh a live performance of some kicking dance tunes with a drum and bass vibe. Second act was pretty good as well, more dancey and reminiscent of the best days of Space. There was another DJ outside but the bigger crowd was definitely inside. Smirnoff was the sponsor and their presence was well noted with illuminated signs on the walls, a faux London phone booth, installation outside and yes, the bar! Whilst I enjoyed the«007»(citrusy vodka drink) Ui was unable to pick out Smirnoff in the blind taste test. Fail for me, but still want to thank Smirnoff for provifing us some good music!

Huge indoor/outdoor space in west, west Wynwoood(29th almost to the freeway). Brand new, featuring a huge patio and lawn, and indoor exhibiton and performance space. Has potential to be the new multi-use hot-spot — art shows, concerts, parties, etc. I was very suprised they couldn’t come up with an alcohol sponsor for the launch party, considering the number of different entities listed on the invitation. The whole event seemed out of focus. I’ll be interested to see what they come up with next — look for them to host at least one WMC after party.

The Awarehouse is a brand new space that just opened up in the Wynwood district. It looks like the event space is aimed at showcasing new art, ‘modern culture’, and music. The space itself will house the Louis Perez Gallery along with Acustronic Record Label. They have a huge outdoor garden that I assume will host some larger sculptures and installations, while the inside lends itself to wall art, and a venue for live music. Their opening party was pretty interesting, although the bathroom facilities were inadequate. The lines were way too long. Growing pains perhaps. Check out their website for upcoming events and you can bet they’ll be a part of the Wywood art walk every month. And remember kids… you heard it here first! ;)
