We tried Chef Frank’s at the monthly Tropical Park Food Truck event. After walking around and checking out what every food truck had to offer I was drawn to the menu at Chef Frank’s. Being Puerto Rican, I have a weakness for any traditional food so to find some authentic dishes at a food truck event, I felt I had to give them a try. I ordered a bacalaito, which is a codfish fritter of sorts. The bacalaito was good and tasted like it had some spices and a few herbs mixed into the dough before frying. I tried a small cup of their homemade hot sauce that was in a giant glass jar and it was so good! Afterwards, I decided on their special of the day which was mofongo with either octopus or shrimp. They could tell I was having a hard time deciding between the two options so they offered me a small sample of the octopus which they had prepared in a ceviche style. It tasted good, but I think it needed a little more lime to help enhance the flavors. I decided on the shrimp and I’m happy I did because it was so delicious! They were generous with their serving of the sauce they cook the shrimp in for which I’m grateful as it was divine! The mofongo was so delicious on its own, carefully prepared to a perfection and a perfect pairing with the shrimp. The shrimp they used were a good size and the portion of shrimp per order was generous. I hope to visit Chef Frank’s truck again in the near future because I want to try their pasteles… and everything else to be honest! If you see them around at one of the local food truck events try them out, you won’t be disappointed. They have quality traditional Puerto Rican food at awesome prices.

South Florida has a lack of authentic Puerto Rican food. Most places have Cuban Hybrids with little taste or soul. Chef Frank on the road is the real deal! I first saw the trailer in a food truck round up and was cautiously optimistic. After the first bite, I was hooked. The trailer has the feel and the flavor of Puerto Rico. The fried snacks are amazing! They have all the classics: empanadas, bacalaitos, and alcapurias. Their shining star is the Mofongo. It is the best in Dade County and you cannot beat the price and portion size. The chef takes his time doing everything by hand and in the old fashion way, slowly developing flavors. Their Mofongo with octopus will change your life. They usually park in Cutler Bay on Saturdays and Sundays in the Big Lots parking lot. Go have the best food that Puerto Rico has to offer you won’t be disappointed. If you say Omar sent you they will add 5% to you receipt(worst coupon ever)
