Not a bad Memorial Park! It was nice seeing the flame, tree, and memorials. Seems like a lot of history behind this park. The information provided on the sculptures and memorials are mind opening! I say check it out if you’re a tourist looking for something great on Calle Ocho!

I’m not sure that it’s «as good as it gets» in terms of «parks,» but in terms of places to go in Miami, I think this one is a must. The park has memorials dedicated to Cuban icons. To me the best part is that the ceiba tree in the middle of the park was where artist, Ana Mendieta, created one of her artworks. She etched the outline of her body into the tree in the 1980s when she spent some time in Miami. Don’t touch the tree or anything else near it! Ceibas are important in Afro-Cuban religious ceremonies and there are usually offerings left near the tree. Don’t disturb the offerings. MAM put together this guide during the exhibition, which provides some more info: Finally, the park is in Little Havana, and if you’re visiting Miami or just want to know more about the place where we live, it’s a good place to start. From the park you could meander up and down 8th St, get a cafecito, check out a fruit market, and talk with people who are likely hanging out on the street.
