I’m really not quite sure what they’ve got going on in here now, but things were pretty off the last time I went. The exhibit was still the same as the one they had when I first reviewed the gallery, however, the ambiance killed the experience. The lights were much darker than on opening night and it was just way too dark in there. Then, they had such strong incense burning that my friends and I had to leave because it was making us all feel dizzy. We didn’t even get to see half of the works because the offensively strong incense drove us right out of the place. Please, please, PLEASE stick to how things were on opening night. You guys really had a great thing going.

Diaspora Vibe centers on emerging Caribbean Diaspora and Latin American Artist. With a small two room space they are able to showcase some of the most interesting works Miami’s art scene has to offer. It is slightly hidden on North Miami Ave and 39th. The door is next to the Pizza Volante, and then just go up the stairs. Rosie the curator and owner is a very sweet and intelligent woman. Stop by during art walk or whenever the gallery is open.

There’s nothing else like it in the city! Curator and director Rosie Gordon Wallace knows her art, her people and how to throw a party. The Popop Studios opening last Thursday was no exception. The gallery was packed with energy, scrumptously compelling art and excellent refreshments. Diaspora Vibe Gallery also hosts Saturday talks with artists that are intimate and stimulating while flowing with the laid back style of the tropics.
