Baleadas seem to be a theme for me these days. This spot left a love note in my mailbox and since my recent experiment went well I thought I might check out this baleada spot which is much closer to me than Coco Baleadas. My first thought was that it definitely reminded me of being in Honduras. Hole in the wall doesn’t even really begin to describe it, which is actually something I really like. It makes the place feel genuine. Unfortunately for us we didn’t have any cash, although we asked at the outset if they accepted cards and they seemed to say yes. However when they delivered our order they first said there was a $ 10 minimum(our 3 baleadas sencillas were $ 6) AND that they didn’t have the machine available? When we asked about an ATM they said there was one on 36thST and 7thAVE — maybe a mile away? At this point I just wanted to leave but my boyfriend insisted on finding cash to pay for these baleadas. At some point the woman said she was going to figure it out, and then from out of nowhere a young woman appeared(I guess from her house nearby?) with an iPhone 6 equipped with square. Even though this is a ghetto shit show, I could’ve gotten over it if the baleadas had been excellent but they really weren’t. While the tortillas were soft and wonderful, the fillings were spread completely unevenly meaning each bite was a mess — but usually of only one ingredient at a time. I know these places are all kind of the same, but if I’m going to go to eat somewhere where I have to put up with this, I’ll make it Coco Baleadas where the food is a lot more delicious.

Don’t be intimidated by the tarp, lonesome pool table, and shady surroundings(seriously, this area was a wreck not too many years ago) — Baleadas here are delicious. Hell yeah!

Really awesome baleadas. Little hole in the wall. Feels like your on someone’s porch. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Food is quick and delicious, made with love. Awesome music. Open late and cheap!
