Note: This is not a restaurant. It is an independent vendor who sells homemade nacatamales from her home. There is a sign outside her house with her cell #, therefore, yes, it is public information. I’m unsure of the exact hours, but it’s Fri-Sun and she said she stops at about 12 on Sunday. I went around 7PM on a Saturday. Just knock or call if she isn’t outside, whatever you prefer. For those who don’t know what a nacatamal is, it’s a large Nicaraguan and Honduran tamal stuffed with rice; potato; lots of marinated pork, chicken, or a combo; tomato; green peppers(I forget the name because they’re not common here); onion; and mint(hierbabuena) that’s wrapped up in a banana leaf and steamed. Now for the review: Pretty dang good! I still think the best one is over at El Cerro Negro, but this one was definitely tasty. It had more of the herb-y taste than the ones at CN, but it wasn’t a bad thing at all. I’m surprised to say that because the whole idea of mint in my savory foods normally totally turns me off. I’m almost positive that, as far as the meat, these are pork and chicken combo. $ 4 may seem steep, but it’s $ 5 after tax in a restaurant and you should really compare this with the price of a meal because it is a meal on its own. This thing is packed with meat! When I say packed, I mean it! They have to weigh nearly 3lbs each, no lie. Pros: No long restaurant waits Well-packaged to avoid leaks all over your clothing and car sold nice and hot A touch of pork fat mixed in(that always makes everything better :) Cons: Parboiled rice, but some people prefer it because it holds up better and won’t get mushy. Some of the meat cooked much harder than I would like(seems to be a Miami trend, though. What can I say) Meat pieces are a bit larger than I’d prefer and that makes it harder to eat. Fri-Sun only, $ 4 each CASHONLY Note: The house is maybe 2 houses away from 8th street, so keep an eye out once you’re on 12th Ave
