I normally don’t give bad reviews but this one has to be done. I’m so mad while I’m typing this! So we walked in and looked at the menu so everyone get their food and was shown how it looked before purchasing. The customer service was very rude. The only person that was nice was the older man ringing up our food. The ladies that services were terrible. They told us on ribs and chicken. Fine that’s what we came for. The sides that were available were rice green beans and Mac and cheese. So we both decide to get the Mac and cheese for both sides., thinking we were getting something good! WRONG! We got out food the chicken was fresh and delicious! But the macaroni and cheese was garbage. It taste like just noodles no cheese. I would say it taste like Kraft Mac and cheese but I would be lying! Overall I’m highly disappointed! I will never go back there! The worst $ 15.52 I’ve spent since I moved to Miami! Oh the price above was for my plate of 2 sides: Mac and cheese meat: dark meat chicken. A hard ass bread that could have chipped my tooth! And some lemonade to drink that taste like I got diabetes. HIGHLYDISAPPOINTED!

i might have just expected more with the name this place has built for its self, i would go back and try more, the mac and cheese left a little to be desired, but honestly i would like to try more to see if it was really good. the bbq sauce was good but there is better yellow sauce to be had in south fl, i would return here but not if it was out of the way only if i was near by and hungry, the portions were large and nothing was bad it just was not great, just good.

Wow! I can’t believe how bad this food was. I heard rave reviews by a few people and decided to check it out. We ordered chicken and ribs with mac & cheese and okra & tomatoes. Besides the decent mac& cheese they should be ashamed of themselves for serving this food. The ribs were more like riblets with cartilage and fat and the chicken might have been good but the fact they were both undercooked left us without getting to farther than the surface. The okra was too salty and the cornbread was too dense, at least for my liking. The prices are way too high for the location and décor or there lack of and I honestly would be embarrassed to serve this food for free. I’m sure once upon a time this place may have been bangin but the love & pride has left this place and gone far away. They need to seriously look at what they are serving, close down, revamp and start all over again. or maybe just called it quits! I’m not sure how you can come back from this but I won’t be giving it a second chance.

Full slab means full slab. Great BBQ and awesome wings, really can’t order anything bad on the menu. BBQ comes with this Carolina style sauce is just great with anything. You’ve gotta stop here when your in Miami.

After hearing and reading so many great things about this place, I went for lunch with a friend. It was good, but to be honest it did not live up to the reputation. We got the chicken and rib combo. The ribs were fairly small, and 3 of the 5 had almost no meat at all. What meat we got was nice and tender and tastey, but it was more bone(and fat) than anything else. Green beans, dark green, straight from the can. Great corn bread. Great baked beans! Fast, friendly service — very attentive and nice to deal with. Prices, about $ 12.95 for the combo, which is what you would pay for a similar combo at Flanigans with way more protein involved. If you live in Overtown and can walk to People’s, it might be worth the trip. Otherwise…

I love People’s Bar-B-Que. Whenever I eat here, it feels like Thanksgiving… or old school Sunday dinners made from scratch. I have had the pleasure of enjoying their ribs, smothered chicken, turkey wings, mac and cheese, candied yams, cabbage, collard greens and corn muffins. All delicious. The food is so rich here, I try to only indulge once in a while, but OMG… yum! If you are looking for a great soul food and/or bbq joint, look no further.

I tried this place for the first time and didn’t know what to expect. All I knew was that you can smell the BBQ from all around the block… AMAZING. Easy to read menu and the prices are on point. Ordered ribs, baked bean, Mac n cheese, and a biscuit, all for just 10 bucks… the ribs had a curry taste to them so it was a bit different but still amazing… baked beans were sweet and delicious… Mac and cheese was perfect… ever since my last visit I have been CRAVING to go back.

Very delicious food a tad salty but still very good, felt as close to the south as I can here in Miami! :-)

Gotta say, it was pretty good. As someone who feels ‘meh’ about bbq, it was quite good. I had the bbq chicken(hot bbq sauce) with mac and cheese and yams. Pretty delish. And the sauce was great.

Finger-frickin-licking good!!! Customer service has been perfectly fine. Each time I have gone I felt welcomed. The place is a bit run down but who cares the food rocks and the place is clean!!!

One of the best barbecue places around and worth every bit of the time it takes to get there!!! I’m a huge fan of the oxtails and tend not to deviate from what I love, but yesterday I had a taste of the ribs and am now determined to make it the rain to get another plate! The wait can be lengthy, especially during lunch hours, but I assume that’s a testament to how delicious the food is. The macaroni and cheese, baked beans and sweet potatoes are must haves. The area is a little sketchy, so If you’re not familiar, it can be easy to miss. I wouldn’t recommend eating in due to the amount of traffic in and out and how crowded it can get; so, if you can make it to your destination(assuming you don’t finish it in the car first) you’d be better off! My only regret is not having and pics to post — the food didn’t make it – but I’ll try to take some next time and post later! Enjoy!!!

Great soul food. The people are very welcoming. You can see regular customers come in and out. They play throwback movies sometimes on their TV. My toddler cried during one of our stays and they were accommodating and tried to make him laugh. The food is not the healthiest, but you know that when you are searching for soul food. The sweet tea is sweet! You’ll have to cut it with a little water. Just how you like it :) Try it you’ll like it!

I’m always in willing to try a new BBQ place so I went to check it out. I ordered the lunch platter, BBQ ribs, macaroni and green beans. It is pretty good soulfood but everything was SO salty. If this is my last Unilocal post then know it’s because I died of high blood pressure from eating this food. The BBQ was alright, nothing extraordinary, but not bad. I really don’t see myself returning here as the place was falling apart and the staff treated me as if I was invisible. I don’t think they did it intentionally to be rude, but they were so into cracking jokes, discussing football, cell phone pics, and mutual friends that I forgot I was even at a restaurant still. Oh well…

When my parents got off of work, this was one of the places where they took me to eat as a child. Twenty plus years later, we took a tour of Miami with our dogs. The place surprisingly looks about the same as a child. Some of their decorations were left unchanged. I took a deep breath and hoped that would translate into the same down home food that we ate back in the day. Our order of ribs and two sides was basic enough. Before we could taste our food going back to the car, we had a few panhandlers begging for money. Although we did not feel threatened by them, it was annoying. I think our dogs kept them from getting too pesky. The ribs were on the tough side; chewy was more like it. We like their mustard sauce, but any self-respecting BBQ joint has great meat. The sides were edible, but forgettable. Service was eh, but it seemed like that the cashier treated everybody the same. It was a nice day outside. Don’t know what the problem was. On a side note, the overall neighborhood is sketchy. That was and is still true to this day. However, it looks like things in the daytime have cleaned up somewhat.

I was really in the mood for some BBQ, but did not know where to go so I did a little Google searching for a place and found People’s Bar-B-Que with a lot of positive reviews. Good reviews and the fact that it was in the hood, I decided to go there because those things must mean that they had authentic BBQ. The reviews I read were mostly great, but it definitely couldn’t be because of the service(the girl at the counter couldn’t get my order right and had attitude) or the atmosphere(plain and basic), it had to be because of the food. After a bit of a wait, I finally got my food(ribs and chicken, however I ordered only ribs). It was pretty average BBQ, although the sauce would not be described as a typical BBQ sauce. The sauce had a surprisingly nice taste and flavor though. I was just a little annoyed eating the ribs because they were randomly chopped(not by each rib) and the sauce was excessive(I got some on my clothes). The sides were pretty decent. Basically it was good but I doubt I would ever go back. The unique sauce made it interesting, but other than it was pretty standard.

I hadn’t been to People’s in over a year. Simply because, I’ve found other spots in North Dade that satisfied my love for soul food. My recent visit here sealed the deal on that choice. No doubt, that People’s is a staple. But, I think it’s lost it’s zing. I ordered the BBQ sandwich and was surprised that the meat was tough and the homemade BBQ sauce had way too much mustard. This was a first, but everyone has a bad day. Right? I also purchased the turkey dinner. The turkey wings were nicely baked and covered in a good gravy. My side dishes, lima beans, collard greens and macaroni & cheese were disappointing. The vegetable dishes were definitely straight from the can. Ok, if that’s how you want to do it, season it up a bit. The Mac and Cheese was straight up Velveeta Cheese. EVERYBODY knows that’s not how you do it! LOL. Seriously, I’ve had better than this from People’s. Let’s just hope this was an «off» day.

The BBQ ribs and cornbread are worth trying(loved the cornbread so much that I asked for seconds!) The candied yams were overly sweet, and I wasn’t too impressed by the other sides my friend and I ordered(beans, collard greens, okra.) The establishment is easily overlooked(looks like any other dingy little house on the side of the road), and isn’t exactly in the nicest part of town, so don’t go alone … and especially not at night. Interior is definitely reminiscent of an old cafeteria. Everything is crazy cheap here. Unfortunately, the taste just can’t compare to true Southern soul food I had in the Carolinas(although it’s still a better food joint overall than most of the so-called restaurants in Brickell.) Give it a go if you like your ribs.

I am a bit embarrassed that it took me SO long to get over to People’s when it’s just a few blocks from work. Just sayin’. Today, I was on a rib-mission and just went straight for it. Never mind the fact that I still had hours of office work to go on a Friday when I returned to the office. I wanted ribs. And the *itis* is nothing that a healthy dose of colada can’t help. The ribs were ONTIME, super tender and seasoned just right. I wanted to try the meat itself first, so I went for the sauce on the side. I was a bit surprised to see a mustardy sauce, but it’s a great compliment to the meat. I also had a quarter of chicken. I knew it would be a ton of food, but this lazy girl was not wanting to cook tonight. Anhoo, the chicken was super tender and I can’t wait to finish off with my other leftovers tonight. Since I hardly ever see okra and tomatoes on the menu anywhere down here, I had to have that. And one of my standard sides at ay bbq joint is always the baked beans. They were sweet as hell and I’m may have tasted maple syrup along with a dash of magic, because they were quite unique. The waitress brought sweet little cornbread rolls to the table and they were gone in 2.2 seconds. The best part, I got a ton little meaty ribs and a quarter chicken with two sides for $ 12? Hell yes. I have to agree with the others that if you are in hurry, this is not the place. Get ready to sit back chill, stuff your face, get covered in grease and hopefully be able to take a nap afterwards.
