Well they started lesbian night on Fridays, it’s Latin music and a little house. There’s a small crowd because I don’t think a lot of people know about it. It’s really hard to find lesbian bars but Friday night is lesbian night.

The latin music was good and people were having a lot of fun. Drag show was great. But bartender that was at the bar alone charged me $ 20 for a Corona & a water after I had tipped him decently the past two rounds for a soda & a drink.

Came here on a Saturday night with my gay friend, and never saw saw so many ugly looking people in one room, they had two male stripers that were so short they would have been better off hiring midgets. If you like to dance salsa, that’s pretty much all it’s good for. Also I was there by around 10:40pm and payed $ 7 to get in, and a vodka and soda was $ 10.

I returned here for the first time in a few years to meet up with some friends who’d actually left the beach to come here on this night. Overall it was a pretty disappointing experience. I arrived at about 1:30 a.m. on this particular Friday night, paid the usual $ 5 cover, grabbed a beer and found my group, which wasn’t difficult since this place wasn’t at all full. I hadn’t been back here since they supposedly updated the place. I only saw 2 real changes. 1) They’ve added a few more tables and chairs to the far right side of the dance floor, and 2) In addition to the annoying wind up police siren that they’ve always had, they now have a set of friggin’ locomotive air horns that the DJ blows at random times and if he’s really feeling festive, with the beat of the music. Other than that, it’s the same big open room with a bar at the back, a bar at the side, a stage in the front and dance floor in the middle with some clear beads hanging from the ceiling above the dance floor to form quasi-chandeliers. A drag show was supposed to start at 2, but started late. It was comprised of a drag queen who came out and did 1 number, then acted as the MC(she was actually quite good as both a performer and a funny/lively MC), and she introduced a second drag queen who came out and performed I think 2 numbers. And that was it. 2 performers, 3 numbers and the show was over. After that there may have been 20 people at most left in the place. Building up to the show, they were announcing that free CDs would be given away and they were carrying a box around the stage for about 10 minutes to drive everyone wild with anticipation. When they began handing out the stuff they had in the box, they actually had maybe 6 small posters with the same logo that was on the front of the CDs(No one wanted the posters — they finally found a few people to take them and I later saw them abandoned on one of the tables), and the few CDs they gave out were crap and had a total of 3 tracks on them. Fail. In all, I also felt this place was a bit spendy and pretentious for what it is. Those of you who’ve driven past it(it’s on 32nd Ave about a block from Coral Way) know that it’s really nothing special from the outside; This building and the ones around it look a bit dumpy and need to be updated. There’s nothing particularly memorable or fancy about the interior, either. It’s also located far from the beach and other areas known for their nightlife. Even given all that, they have stanchions, a podium and a few security guards/bouncers near the entrance, and Sugar has a $ 5 cover after 11:30(come before that and the place is lifeless). Beers are $ 6 each, and I ordered a double rum and Coke, which was served in a flimsy 6 oz. plastic cup packed mostly with ice and was a very weak pour, for $ 16. Literally 4 or 5 sips and it was gone, save for the cup that was still packed with ice. I’ll happily go to the beach or to Lauderdale over this place any day. Most similar bars in those areas don’t charge a cover, drink prices are in some cases much more reasonable, the décor and the vibe is better, and there’s a lot more life with many more people patronizing those places. Also, note that even if you only stay here for a short time, your clothes will reek of cigarette smoke.

It may be called Sugar… but there’s nothing sweet about it. The bad: This place is a dump and the music sucks. The good: Drinks are ridiculously strong. The bathrooms were really clean! The ugly: The crowd. Literally. Probably won’t be back unless I’m very drunk and dragged here by my friends.

okay club. people, music, drinking and dancing. what else can want? no cover charge on this Thursday night so cool. points for that. $ 8.00 for a Jack and Coke, okay zing for that. Mainly a young, gay, latino club with a load of industrial technopop for what’s that worth. No mention of when any show might be going on. After reading the other reviews, glad I didn’t wait until 2am for the show. bottom line, nothing to write home about.

Free cover before 11:30PM(but the crowd comes later) Latin dance club Nice bartenders Good Latin music — some Latin classics(Oscar d’Leon, anyone?) Bothersome strobe lights — they gotta get rid of the white lights Smokey Can leave and come back without paying twice
