Always enjoy their cuisine. I just had the kale buñuelos and they were fantastic. The red roll with crab, shrimp and tomatoes was also very good. One of my favorite places in midtown.

I’ve now gone to sugarcane twice and I must say that overall my opinion is positive however it is somewhat a mixed review as my first experience was quite different than my second. The first time I came here I came with a friend and we decided to approach the menu as it should be by ordering plates and sharing between the both of us. We ordered an octopus salad which was finger licking good and then ordered flank steak along with some type of hash/casserole type plate which was also very good. The concept here is that good is served as it becomes available and they essentially have different kitchens that focus on different dishes. I still have yet to try any of their fish dishes though. The second time I came it was with another friend because I kept raving about the octopus salad and this time around I was not a huge fan because it was breaded-maybe I had too many drinks the first time however I could have sworn it was grilled the first time I tried it-the waiter told me that shouldn’t have been the case. I sent it back and decided to try the other option for octopus which is essentially a tentacle on a stick-also not a fan. We did order the bacon wrapped figs and they were really great! We also ordered the croquettes and they were also good. This place has a great environment for groups and I would say it’s hard for me to speak negatively when my first experience was great and everything was delicious. If you go for dessert the French toast with peaches and ice cream is a must try, however I don’t recommend hogging those calories as its a lot to take on for one person. This place is also know for their happy hour which you can take advantage of out on their patio. The mix of urban/eclectic design mixed with a beach type feeling inside gives you this tropic oasis vibe and its overall a great place for a date night or nice cocktail after a long week. Give this place a try! I’m sure I’ll be coming back.

Restaurant: Sugarcane Summary: A small plates american cuisine restaurant in midtown that has a very nice ambiance and delicious adventurous food options. With the combo of the ambiance and the food, this is a restaurant that can be great for any intimate event/date/whatever. Meal: Dinner/Lunch Cost: Pricey, the small plates run in the teens, sushi rolls nearing 20 each, and mains 30 – 50. Service: Service is good but slow. I have been here a lot and unfortunately it is always slow. The staff is super friendly and helpful, but you will wait. Ambiance: I love it! Beautiful inside that is large yet feels intimate. The outside is nice, it is a bunch of 2 – 6 tops located in the front patio which is very well concealed from the street and sidewalk with a tasteful shrub hedge. Dimly lit at night, and not to loud so talking is possible. What they do well: Small plates of american cuisine. Where they need to improve: This place screams for a well designed tasting menu. Best Dishes: Ducks & Waffle, Brussel Sprouts, Korean style beef short ribs Score: Food is 5 stars, parking and price however cost it a point. Parking: So there is some street parking around, however this fills up fast. As there is more and more construction in the area we are going to see more problems with parking here. They do have a valet however at night so that can help.

Tapas and sharing… We selected to have a table outdoors so there was a price to pay for this choice unfortunately and it was the fact that wearing shorts got our entire table bitten by mosquitoes. The service was ok and the food was better than ok. Out of all the dishes/plates we ordered my favorite was actually the most affordable of all of the ones we ordered too. We liked it so much we ended up ordering it twice. If there was only a single reason to come here it would be what turned out to be my favorite plate which was the pig ears. Deep fried pig ears, yes. Sliced and spiced, crunchy and chewy like the baby version of bacon. This dish alone would make me want to come back if anything it was simply not enough to get only one. The rest of our fare included ceviche, two sushi rolls, meatballs, tomato and strawberry salad, and grilled octopus. While the rest of the food was good the fact that it seemed rather cramped and loud thanks to the table next to us and the proximity combined with the mosquito bites made it sort of uncomfortable. Besides that I have to say that the pig ears really bounces this place into 4* territory and that’s a leap but next time I think we’ll eat inside.

Great meal in a very busy restaurant. My favorite part was probably the outdoor seating area. I also couldn’t believe how busy it was. We left dinner at 11pm and passed a big crowd still waiting to be seated. The food itself was not memorable to me. It’s tapas. Some taste amazing, some are not as good. It kind of felt all over the place. I had the snapper as my main course which was prepared well but didn’t blow me away.

I’ve been back to Sugarcane a few times since writing my initial review. Late last year I came here with a vegetarian friend, and they had plenty on the menu to satisfy him. We ordered the edimame, a spicy tuna roll, California roll, octopus salad and an order of mussels. Service was OK, though once we were ready to order and later ready to get the check, it did take a while for our server to come by. Everything I tried was tasty, and the outdoor patio was perfect on that sunny late afternoon. The bottle of merlot was $ 65(my friend is a wine snob and said this was about a 300% markup over retail for that particular bottle). I came here most recently with a buddy from work. We each had a draft beer, the goat cheese croquetas, bacon wrapped dates, beef short ribs and a California roll. As with most places that serve tapas/small plates, I found that the food was all very good, though the portions were quite small for what they charge, and even the pricing of their draft beers was out of line(one draft from their standard menu was $ 11, the other was $ 9. Normally for these I’d maybe pay $ 6 –7 in most area bars). IMO Sugarcane is a good happy hour spot, but come here outside of that and expect to pay inflated prices for small portions that are just«good» to «very good».

The vibe here is absolutely amazing, chill and classy at the same time. my best friend and I came for some quality time and were WOW’d by the service! Our waitress was so nice and was a sweetheart but I have to hand it to the manager James Recio, he came by our table and serves our wine, picked up out used plates and always checked in on us. He made us feel like we were the only table in the restaurant! The goat cheese croquettes were out of control and the sushi roll was to die for! We share a bottle of white wine and a Nutella sundae for dessert we really enjoyed our experience and would HIGHLYRECOMMEND this place for anyone thinking of stopping by.

High concept that doesn’t work. Sushi, tapas and robata — weird, right? It is weird and confusing and over done. From the downright silly cocktail menu(believe me, you don’t want to suck an entire cilantro leaf up a straw and have it stick to the roof of your mouth) to the tapas with too many ingredients and the whole raw bar misnomer, this place screams menu schizophrenia. Let’s start with the good things. There were several positives — beautiful décor inside and out, a lively atmosphere with friendly service and fairly decent prices. And 3(of 8) very good dishes — harissa tuna tartare had just the right blend of fresh fish, mild but tasty harissa, delicious eggplant and sweet sultanas. The creamy corn soup with goat cheese and basil oil did not need the popcorn garnish to make an impression. And the selection of fresh oysters was small(only 4 types) but thoughtful and well-presented. Otherwise, the food was pedestrian: We had bland chicken liver pâté with pistachio crust that was too cold and served in two giant chunks with nuts that could have used a bit finer crushing. The dish would have benefited from a fruit chutney with a little spice or grainy mustard and a serving of sliced bread(or a knife to cut the warm and crusty little boule it was served with — we had to tear it). The pickled radishes were the highlight of the dish. Light and crunchy with a hint of tartness that did not overwhelm the earthy peppery radish flavor. Next up were the goat cheese croquettes that get raves in some reviews… um, why? They were crispy and the gooey stuff under them was tasty but the filling was bland enough that I wondered if there was any goat cheese in the potato mush. The most disappointing dish for me was the massaman sweetbreads which delivered a thin yummy curry broth and well cooked fingerling potatoes. Unfortunately, they were not enough to fix the sweetbreads which were carmelized to exactly the texture so that the outside sticks to your teeth and the inside chews a bit tough. Did not finish and my companion would only have one bite. We’d forgotten we ordered the octopus and asparagus but the waiter assured us they were already fired and small. Wish we’d killed that order sooner. The octopus was one tentacle on a skewer that was charred and then evidently put back on the grill with barbecue sauce. It smelled good and the sauce was a zesty blend but the tentacle was chewy and the char too hard, at least on the piece I had to remove from my mouth. I didn’t eat the asparagus — 4 super large spears with French fried onions — but my companion wasn’t sure if they were grilled or roasted and noted that they were too large and the bottom part is «woody.» I can’t believe the waiter hyped the dates wrapped in bacon as his favorite dish(didn’t we do this 10 years ago) and owned up to not having tried many of the dishes on the menu. He was being honest and trying hard so I gave him the benefit of the doubt and told him my opinion of the food when he asked. A minute or two later I noticed a man in a suit come out to the patio and gave me a good once over. Why yes, he did tell the manager my comments, while I was still there! Prior to that, I’d told the waiter I wouldn’t Unilocal my review but after being stared down and still getting no acknowledgement of the food issues, I figured why not?!? I love simple well-prepared food. If you’re like me, skip this place.

For its price i would really expect service and food to be great, and it is! Love our server, really good in recommending cocktails, love all of them! Spice of love, strawberry balsamic, rum and brumble and even the regular mojitos, divine! We’ve ordered some of the tapas, probably I’m biased but really love goat cheese croquettes but hey, i always love goat cheese. Pig ears is okay. Crunchy tuna is good too but the sushi roll is a little loose, so more practice for the sushi chef. They say anything that is wrapped in bacon is good, well not to me, but i still ordered dates and it is good, my husband loves it too. Duck and waffle is okay. You can easily remove the bones from the meat. And lastly, short ribs, well nothing new about it but short rib is always good and they executed to cook it fork tender and good so another clap for that. For dessert, my husband is a fan of torrejas and loves it, he commented there’s a lot more texture with theirs, the only bad thing is ice cream not enough for the quAntity of the bread pudding. This place is great for special occasion to hang out with friends, i wouldn’t recommend it regularly unless you are very rich

Bravo, SugarCane what an impeccable service! I had an amazing dinner last night with a business partner after a not-so good prior experience at SugarCane. To keep it short, all the dishes were cooked to perfection and plated so beautifully and elegant. The dishes are so influential and intimate. The ambiance is very warm and intimate. This is an awesome atmosphere to get together with good friends, business partners, etc over a bottle of wine or just to sit and have tapas or have dinner with family. I listed below several of the dishes we had the pleasure of tasting. Pan seared sea scallops with horseradish easily the best most savory and fresh dish I’ve her had and the dish is wildly fragrant. Spicy hamachi ponzu was very delightful and refreshing with the best flavor combination! Torrejas for desert was the most amazing dessert presentation and the most delicious desert that I have ever seen and tasted! this desert can be described as heavenly. seriously lol! Keep in mind if your a wine lover like I am, the wine list is extensive and detailed with a very tasteful selection! The service itself from being seated to leaving the restaurant was beyond our expectations. No detail is too small for their staff. Amazing service and superior attention to detail from the entire staff. Our server Justine was knowledgable, accommodating, and professional. The managers Sean and Maggie were absolutely delightful and the staff took excellent care of us during our dining experience. Way to redeem yourself! If you are in town you most certainly need to make sure you visit this beautiful in every way restaurant.

Came here with fellow Elite couple weeks ago. It was his first time here but this was probably my 3rd visit but haven’t had a chance to review. This place is a popular midtown joint so expect a packed house on weekend nights but they do accept reservations. Plenty of outdoor seating and large indoor dining area with high ceilings so it feels airy. Bar seating also available both indoor and out. They also offer valet but the Target garage is only couple blocks away. We opted to seat inside and our server immediately introduced herself and offer libations. She was very knowledgeable with the menu and suggested several dishes enthusiastically. I tried the Garden Essence(Spring 44 Gin, basil, fresh thyme, lemon pepper). What a refreshing cocktail. It was light but have the potency. For bites, we started with Jalea Octopus Salad and Chili Chicken & Smoked Bacon Meatballs. The octopus salad was very well prepped. The crunch from the lightly battered octopus was a surprise but balanced out the softness of the greens. For the main course, we ordered one the of specials which was the Boneless Short Ribs w/Yuca Slaw and the Flap Steak Chimichurri from the regular menu. The short ribs were simply melt in your mouth goodness. Juicy, perfect temp and succulent! The steak was good as well. Tender, perfect texture in every bite. Of course, we just had to order the dessert special as suggested by our server. I don’t remember the name but it was sort of a peach cobbler and ice cream w/finely grated crackers. It was superb and the perfect ending to our dinner. See my pics. This place will always be one of my favs. Good crowd, food is consistent and service always on point. My buddy was thankful that I took him here. He is now a believer :)

If I could use one word to sum up our night last night at Sugarcane, it would be FANTASTIC! This restaurant has been on my list for a bit and they hit it out of the park last night with food, service and atmosphere for sure. It was a bit chilly last night, so we sat inside but their patio is adorbs! I must come back to cocktail out there. I hear their happy hour is great. This restaurant is beautiful. They have done a stunning job with both the interior and exterior. Just fabulous! This is a great space for a wonderful evening out! Our server Dana was so sweet and gave some great recommendations. Their cocktails are delicious and boozy. The Mojito was perfection. All of this food is meant to share(and there’s no better way to dine in my opinion). Here are the things we tried and loved: — Lobster BLT Sushi Roll — Shishito Peppers — Duck and Waffle(Which I loved SO much and can’t wait to come back and eat this!) — Roasted Beet and Arugula Salade(Great flavor and plentiful portion) — Chicken and Smoked Bacon Meatballs(Delicious! Perfect texture) — Goat Cheese Croquettes(Yum! I don’t understand people who detest Goat Cheese!) — Lamb Chops with Miso Glaze(Tender and cooked to perfection. Perfect for 3 people) –Octopus under the Robata Grill section(I wish there was a tab bit larger portion. Maybe the way they presented it made me feel like there wasn’t much. BUT still very very delicious!) For dessert(Because, you have to get dessert. Yes, just DOIT!) We went with the Torrejas which was basically maple Caramelized apples, french toast and homemade ice cream. This was just a perfect was to end the evening. This place is a must if you’re in the Midtown area! Thanks Sugarcane for a great evening! We enjoyed it and I’ll be back soon!

Alas, Sugarcane! I have been trying to get out to this place for a while, but it has eluded me(for whatever reason) successfully for quite a while. I’m glad it did, honestly because that gave me the opportunity to rate it based on brunch. And what better way to know the extent of an establishments culinary prowess than to see how they cook an egg, no? Let me start by reviewing the goat cheese croquettes. First and foremost, I am not a huge fan of goat cheese, hence my expectations were spectacularly pessimistic. I did appreciate however the«tip of the cap» from the menus creator to the largely Hispanic demographic by installing his/her version of a guava and cream cheese pastelito and a croqueta hybrid. Anyhow, Once this plate arrived and and I tried them I was stupefied. These small, round and deep fried morsels of happiness we’re AMAZEBALLS. I couldn’t stuff my face full of these pillows of happiness fast enough and promised myself that whenever I was in despair and the world around me crumbling, I would remember this moment and instantly all will be right in the universe. On to the oxtail eggs Benedict. As a lover of all things eggs Benedict, there was no way that I would allow oxtail and eggs to get away from me. I locked in on it immediately and fired off my order to the waiter before he had the opportunity to ask. I was not going to be dissuaded today. As it came out, the pleasant aroma of carefully braised beef and spices arrived before the actual dish as if to arouse my senses, I can appreciate that. The egg was perfectly poached, the oxtail(without bone, thank you kind chef!) was perfectly seasoned and fork tender. The marriage between the egg and the oxtail was a union rivaled only by the likes of Cinderella and Prince Charming, honestly! This should be the new benchmark for all eggs Benedict. Finally, the drinks. I’m a whiskey kind of guy. I enjoy it neat, on the rocks and sometimes even in a cocktail. In this case the vessel for my nectar came in the form of and«Old Fashioned«. Like most of you that have ordered the timeless cocktail, it’s obvious that bartenders cringe when they hear that drink being ordered. You see in the bartender the same face you make when someone scratches a chalkboard. Here, much to my surprise, there was no such puckering of the face or childish foot stomping. The bartender meant business, he took the order and happily obliged. Alas, the BEST old fashioned I have ever had. I want to complain about the extravagant price they charge for it, but the grievance is justified as it has been hands down the best I’ve had in a long time. Cheers to you Mr. Bartender for creating this classic concoction of happiness and whiskey with class and swagger!

Happy hour is key when dining at SUGARCANE. On Monday through Friday from 4pm — 7pm at the bar you can enjoy select cocktails that are typically $ 13 that are now $ 7, all beer cocktails that are usually $ 11 go down to $ 7, and certain bubbles and wines by the glass are $ 7. There is also a great selection of snacks, small plates, sushi rolls and Robata to choose from that are as low as $ 3 to $ 12. The cocktails are«light,» if you catch my drift, but super tasty. I enjoyed the very refreshing and interesting Gold Coast Beer Cocktail, a blend of Velvet Falernum, lemongrass infused Bacardi and Brooklyn Pilsner. We ordered the Robata Octopus($ 7) and the American Wagyu Slider($ 5) off of the happy hour food menu. Both were fantastic. You get one decent sized octopus leg on a bed of greens and the slider had a perfectly fried egg on top. Since we had a lot of selections in mind before we arrived, we started to order off of the normal menu and ordered some delicious dishes. The duck and waffles was divine and the mustard maple syrup really made it a great brunch plate. Just cut apart the large fried egg on top for an even more decadent dish. The foie gras fried rice was out of this world. You get a nice hunk of foie gras, a fried egg and some super tasty fried rice. It’s a huge plate though, so either share or choose it as your only meal. The spam musubi with foie gras and eel sauce was so great. I wouldn’t have even thought of putting the two together but it’s a really great bite(or two). The salmon gravlox was my ultimate favorite of the night. Cucumber, avocado, and rice are wrapped in rice paper and topped with salmon and fish eggs. It didn’t need to be dipped in soy sauce, just simply popped in your mouth and savored. I loved my visit, the restaurant is beautiful and service was good. I would only come for happy hour though to enjoy some more cheap bites.

I’ve been here at least 6 – 7 times over the years but I had not been here over the past year. Went there again today for family lunch and I was so glad to see this place is still as amazing as I remember. This is the first time I go during the day(usually go at night for my favorite dish: the bone marrow). Going earlier gave me a try of their brunch menu(served til 5) which was not surprisingly, just as great as their dinner menu. So we sit and they did take a little to get our water and service … When to our surprise, the manager came to the rescue and took our entire order himself! Now, this speaks volumes of him and explains how this place has kept their name for all these years. Not only was he extremely courteous and attentive, but when one of our dishes took longer than usual, he offered a free plate(octopus) on the house. At this point we were so impressed not only with his service, but with the food as well! Everything we had today(bacalao mash, beef cheek and egg toast, swordfish, goat croquettes, chicken sandwich, and bacon wrapped dates) was absolutely delicious. I don’t think I’ve ever had one thing here that I haven’t liked, ever! The drinks are so great too! We had an old fashion, mango bubbles, and blood orange bubbles. Overall, this is and will continue to be my favorite place in midtown. Try the Brussel sprouts and definitely order the bone marrow if you’re there for dinner(takes about 30-min to prepare, but so worth the wait!). Thanks to James Recio, the manager, for such outstanding service! I’ll continue to refer friends and family to you guys for delicious food! Keep up the good work!

Made a reservation for 7:45 pm, and wasn’t seated till 8:10 pm. Needless to say, this is a popping venue in a hip yuppie area so make sure to make reservations in advance! There’s a cute outdoor bar and an outdoor sitting area with dim lights. The indoor area is cute too as you can see the chefs cook and prepare your food. And very friendly service. Our waiter recommended what to order and even gave us tips on how to eat dishes. Very interesting take as this restaurant focuses on tapas, but serves everything from sushi to duck and waffles. I highly recommend the crispy rice sushi– absolutely amazing!!! The rice is perfectly crispy, not burnt and the fish is fresh. I also got the crunchy tuna roll– equally as delicious, but couldn’t really taste the kimchee as listed in the ingredients. For the tapas, I got the fried goat cheese balls(pretty yummy), Brussels sprouts(nicely seasoned and crispy) and my friend got the duck and waffles and she loved it. Waiter recommended to break off the meat on the bone, put it on top of the waffles, put an egg on top and pour the gravy on last. Lots and lots of drink options too. This area is known for rum, so definitely try a cocktail with some in it.

Came here with a friend after we finished exploring Wynwood Walls. My friend and I tried two of their signature cocktails — Hibiscus Blossom and the Strawberry Balsamic. Both were very tasty, fruity, and light. I ended up ordering three rounds of the Strawberry Balsamic. We ordered the kimchee beef tartare, american waygu slider, sweet corn, crispy rice yellowtail, and goat cheese croquettes. I really enjoyed the beef tartare, crispy rice yellowtail, and waygu sliders. The sweet corn was a little disappointing because I was expected more of a street corn, but the char on the corn was nice. The goat cheese croquettes were very creamy on the inside but a little too sweet with the marmalade for me. I give it 4 stars instead of 5, mostly because the service was very slow for not peak hours — we came around 4:35pm. My friend and I were dining on small plates and were expecting a quick bite to eat but we were there for more than 2 hours and most of it was waiting for our food to come out. We ordered the beef tartare and this was the second to last thing to arrive. Basically over an hour wait for this even though we were told it would be one of the first things that would be brought out. I believe the waiter just forgot to put the order in. Same thing with the croquettes, the waiter asked us if we wanted to see the dessert menu before this dish came out. They also didn’t tell us the spam musubi was not available until 20 minutes after we ordered it.

BRUNCH! After trying to get in for brunch at all the well known places and not willing to wait an hour, I called Sugarcane to see if they had brunch and a wait and when they said they had open tables we rushed over. I’ve had great drinks and tapas here before, but was more than pleasantly surprised by their brunch. Also, our server Dana was phenomenal! She walked us through the menu, have her personal favorites, was extremely friendly and attentive. Food: –Bacon wrapped dates: you can’t go to Sugarcane without having these, unbelievably good! –Beet and arugula salad: the citrus in the grapefruit really makes this tasty –Shrimp cocktail: giant fresh shrimp that are prepared so they’re easy to peel –Fat Boy Hash: loved this dish, it is different as the potatoes are cooked hard, but the taste is phenomenal –Banana walnut pancakes: some of the BEST pancakes I’ve ever had! The bloody marys were great as well! I will definitely be back for brunch again.

One of the best in Midtown ! Great place, great ambiance and great food. Tapas style and good to get more than a few things to try and share. Very interesting menu and good selection. Definitely not your standard sushi or Mediterranean place. A little bit of everything for every kind of taste. Can’t go wrong to come here if you want to have a fun night, the place is very busy at night time and gives a great vibe. They are also open for lunch and it’s very laid back not many people at all. Great patio dining as well, if the weather is not crazy with standard Miami humidity. Enjoy !
