Solid dive bar nestled in a hole in the wall in the often considered«upscale» coconut grove. This place is exactly what you would expect from a dive! Great place to grab a few beers and play some darts with the guys. If you are looking for a clean floor then don’t come here but, if your looking for a fun bar with good tunes and great vibes then look no further than the Tavern in the Grove!

Great spot to hang with the college kids. Good beers on tap. Just a fun atmosphere.

Three stars for the lovely, friendly, and very attentive Karen. One star for the memories of a smoky college bar. All these years later that memory is followed by a hit on the asthma inhaler. Don’t be afraid to go in and have a beer. But maybe be afraid to go in too far…

Tavern ISNOTCLOSED, but it should be. Run down, lacks seating and proper restrooms, and probably the dirtiest bar I have ever been to. If you’re going there, bring hand sanitizer and probably some mace — creepy old men line the walls of this place.

The music is much too loud. You cannot have a conversation with anyone around you. If you sit at the bar the AC vent will drip on you but you get used to that after a few drinks. Good prices and the people are nice.

They may have a internet jukebox, but don’t bother playing it unless you have the same music taste as the owner otherwise your songs will be deleted and you won’t get your money back.

I have been to this bar twice. Before I say anything else, I just want to say that my favorite place to go is Round up in davie. Its so much fun, and I love country music and the whole bar scene. With that said, the first time I went to the tavern it was for halloween and it was pretty cool. We had a lot of fun and drinks were cheap. So, naturally, we decided to go a second time. The second time was the worst experience of my life. The people in the bar were cool. The bartenders were super sweet and friendly. But the«security» and the DRUNK«manager» were complete A$#holes! We were playing darts and some of the guys in our group were playing beer pong with some other guys that were there and the manager would not stop coming up to us and getting into all the guys faces saying that«this is your last warning»… for what you may ask??? THATS A GREATQUESTIONS! because none of us had any idea. to make the story short, the«security guard» tried to pull out a knife and since we had a actual body guard and a black belt, he was disarmed right away. Thats when the manager decided to just start pushing everyone out, pulling my friend to the floor by her hair. She ended up having to go to the hospital because after he pulled her down, he stepped on her. She was on bed rest for a whole week. Not to mention our other friend who decided to try and get out the door, was punched to the ground and then kicked in the face when he was down there, and ended up drinking his food for the next month. SO, yea its a pretty cool place, and I would totally make it a go to spot, if the people who work there were complete drunks who just want to show off how«strong» they are.

The epitome of a hole in the wall bar, this joint is easy to miss if you do not know which door to walk in. Everyone seems to hate on this place but after my 4 years at UM Tavern has a special place in my heart. Your favorite bartender seems to never have a day off and if you miss your old friends, just look for their picture in the collage on the wall or their carvings in the bathroom. A favorite place of UM collegiates on a Thursday night, this bar is also a fun stop for a group of friends who just want to play quarters, darts or have control of a jukebox. Make sure to wash your hair after as it WILL smell like smoke and don’t expect a clean bathroom(but who can in these types of bars?).

Been going here for as long as I can remember. This amazing local dive bar is one of my favorite places. Recently I enjoy going to play darts here whenever possible. But the classic round of beer pong is always a must due. The daily specials are the best in town — who can beat $ 7/pitcher? Seriously! The staff has let me host charity events while providing great drink specials. They also let you play your own music which is rad! Can’t complain about the food because it’s Bring Your Own, I bring my take-out all the time.

A great dive bar. It reminds me of some places(Benny’s and also Ernie’s both in Darien, CT) we used to go to in high school/college/after college, Generally if a place reminds me of underage drinking and debauchery from home I like it, a lot. Cold and cheap draft beer in a town where beer is generally warm and expensive. 7 bucks for a pitcher of Presidente is a steal of a deal. No food and no booze, but they’ll let you bring your own of either, so thats awesome.

Small dark bar that you wouldn’t know existed unless you were to walk right by it and ask yourself«What’s in there?» It’s nothing special but I used to come here every Wednesday with my friends for their cheap pitchers. Tavern is the reason I started liking beer because they serve NOTHING else.(I always drink liquor.) There’s a beer pong table where you can always find UM kids playing, so that’s kind of cool. They just need a new playlist. They play the same 90s rock over and over and over. Either way, it’s good times.

What can I say about Tavern? There is something special about this little, dirty, hole-in-the-wall dive that draws me in as I’m stumbling through the Grove after happy hour. It’s dark and stinky — usually jammed packed with college kids on game nights. Although most of the time, there is a good mix of real people from all ages and walks of life. Tavern is a no-nonsense kind of place. The beer is cheap — don’t expect any fancy South Beach cocktails or super model bartenders/waiters/waitresses. The bar has a decent juke box and some beer pong tables. There are so many hoity-toity places to go in Coconut Grove and this place does not aspire to be one of them. This is why I just love Tavern. Because what you see, is what you get.

I’ve been to this bar on a couple of occasions; Once when a group of friends were just looking for someplace unpretentious to stop and get a drink, and the other on our recent«mustache» pub crawl. I give this place props because it’s a dive bar and it doesn’t try to be anything more/less than that. It’s got a tiny storefront when you’re walking by, so if you blink you can almost miss it completely. Once inside, it’s dark with a bunch of posters, mirrors and eclectic stuff on the walls and behind the bar. In the back where the place is a bit wider, there’s a dart board and a jukebox. There’s an area of the wooden lattice ceiling above the bar that’s nearly ready to fall in, apparently from water damage from the A/C unit up there. In order to keep the ceiling from falling in completely, they’ve jammed a lacrosse stick between the ceiling and a pipe to try and brace it. Nice! Oh yeah, did someone mention cheap pitchers of beer? ‘Cause they got ‘em here! My primary reason for only giving it 3 stars is because it really does take the«dive bar» theme to a new low. I went to use the restroom, and found that there’s no entrance door for the men’s room at all(evidently it was taken off the hinges at some point). Once inside it’s a filth hole with no TP, no soap, no paper towels and no hand dryer, so the only way to dry your hands is to wipe them on yourself or let them air dry. Don’t ask me what you’re supposed to do if you need take a #2 and are trying to wipe afterwards. I guess TP might be available upon request from the bar? *Unpretentious Dive bar = Good. *People watching me pee, no soap or TP = Borderline unsanitary. Not so good.

The Tavern In The Grove AKA«Oooh there is a bar in there?» This place is alright, kind of a last resort of the grove. The pitchers are really cheap and they have 2 Beirut tables(Beer pong) in the back which is dope. Also you can smoke inside and they have a touch tunes jukebox. Just kind of a narrow bar with some random ledges to sit on and a few stools. This place is normally overpopulated with UM and college kids so its always pretty full. I gave it 3 because its nothing really special, kind of good backup plan bar for the grove.

I used to come here all the time to kick ass at beer pong. It’s been a while so I decided to come back last night to see what was up. Still pretty packed inside with a bunch of college kids, but thats all of the grove anyway. It’s just a small, fun, dark bar where you can get drunk off of numerous amount of cheap pitchers & then hit on a bunch of white people.

I’m just reading all the bad reviews about this bar… and I don’t get it. I came here on the Mustache Dash Pub Crawl and found this place pretty cool. It’s a typical Dive Bar which I must admit, dive bars suite my trailer trash persona! ha ha. The beer was super cheap. An entire picture for $ 5. Can’t even get 1 beer for that price in most bars on South Beach. I would have to say to anyone that complains about this place, break out your wallet and go someplace else. ha ha

I have only been to Tavern in the Grove maybe twice sine I could finally legally drink. It used to be a hot spot for college kids on a thursday night. They do have cheap pitchers of beer, with a beer pong table and darts board. But if you are there on college night, the place is so packed you can barley move! There was a joke at UM about having«tavern feet» on a friday morning, because you would go to class with black, dirty smelly feet from being in this tiny bar. The women’s bathroom is disgusting, and there is only only toilet. Recommended for underage coeds.

I think out of all the bars in the Grove, this one is my least favorite. I think its a combination of bad lighting, weird crowd, and watered down beer. No matter how hard I try, I’ve never fully enjoyed myself here, I don’t even know how to explain it, its just a really bad vibe. The prices are decent if you are looking for cheap drinks, and it seems to always be packed on Wednesday and Thursday night, its definitely a UM joint, so it’ll most likely be packed with students. Blah… like I said, I’m not a fan.

Another one of our stops for the PJ Pub Crawl. The place was small, overly crowded and served us Bud as our«free drink». What??? Every other place, we had either Newcastle or a choice between rum or vodka drinks. This was the ONLY place that served Bud. AND for that, they get a star taken off! Bad form Tavern in the Grove, bad form! Also, to get to the bathroom, it can be quite a mission to get past all those people. So I suggest, when you feel like you have to go, don’t wait, go. Otherwise, you might not make it. Still, had a good time with good music.

This place is a DIVE! It makes Baracuda’s, around the corner; look like the Ritz. I like dives. Most dives have character to them. Hmm… I really didn’t see to much character in this dark dive, however. It just seemed kind of depressing. Maybe I was there at the wrong time. I may give the Tavern a 2nd chance… or maybe not.
