JuneBug’s Cupcakes

AMAZING! I don’t get how anyone could not love this place. The brownies are like God made them himself. The Oatmeal Raisin cookie is the best one I’ve ever had or tasted. The cupcakes are so moist and flavorful. The icing that they put on the brownies is just so amazing I can’t explain. I have a sweet tooth obviously, and this place delivers the goods!

The icing tastes like store bought and the gluten free cake is terrible. The non gluten free cupcakes taste ok, but the icing still has a funny taste. Service seems friendly enough. Just overall disappointing

It seems unfair to provide a poor review to a local shop trying to do a good thing. However, the quality here is not great. We did not experience any day-​old issues as some reviewers have. We simply found that the cupcakes were not very high quality with respect to craftsmanship. Perhaps, we caught them on a busy Saturday when they did not have time to mix ingredients effectively. Who knows.

Goodbye Gigi, hello Junebug! I LOVE gourmet cupcakes and cannot believe that I had not discovered this place before now. I bought a box of 30 assorted mini cupcakes to freeze for a future party. Only 26 of them made it into the freezer! I sampled the «buckeye» (think Reese peanut butter cup), the lemon/​raspberry filled, the german chocolate and the red velvet cake! WOW… every one tasted like it just came out of the oven. Very moist and fresh and so flavorful. I will be making many return visits (probably before the party because I don’t see these lasting until then!). When I travel, I always try to scope out gourmet cupcake shops and have tried many (Georgetown cupcake in DC, Sprinkles in Cali, Magnolia bakery in NYC). Who knew that this one, practically located in my own backyard, would be amazing. One of the best things about it is that they have a wide variety every day and an abundance of choices in the mini cupcakes every day. Sorry Gigi, we are over. I have fallen in love with Junebug!

I’ve passed this place quite a few times and finally decided to stop in one day. It’s a small shop so you cannot actually sit down and eat there but that’s not a major problem for me since I was taking them home. I think the cupcakes are just ok nothing spectacular but not horrible either. The one thing I really like is that they offer mini cupcakes and even have flavors of the day. Other then that I still would prefer going to Ele or making my own.

We’ve been here about 4x since they opened and each time, the quality goes down a little more. Today we both agreed that this one gets crossed off the list. These were day old cupcakes. We know because we got there when they opened and every one we ate were all dry and hard. Honestly we should’ve thrown them away but we paid too much for them to justify doing that. The people are nice and they have a decent selection but this is the 2^nd time we’ve gotten day old cupcakes (unless Sunday is known for that but they don’t mark them down? Or maybe because we’re not locals this wasn’t common knowledge to us? I don’t know) If they could improve on the moistness of the cupcake portion and kick up the flavor a bit in the frosting, we’d have no problem coming back but I don’t want to keep throwing good money after bad waiting for that to happen. Sigh.

I’ll make this a very simple review.
I stopped in here the other day on a whim. I just happened to see this place across from the Dayton Mall. As I like to buy things for a few of my neighbors from time to time, I stopped in.
This time I bought a couple day old cupcakes for the elderly lady across the street from me. I took them to her as I’ve taken things to her over the past several years, but this time was different. She’s told me many times over the years that she appreciates the goodies I bring her. But this time she called me the very next morning to tell me they were the best cupcakes she’d ever had. She absolutely raved about them.
Chocolate, with Chocolate Garnach, with Chocolate Icing and Chocolate Chip Cupcakes… I didn’t eat them but I’ll take her word that they were amazing.
The only drawbacks are there’s not a huge selection to choose from and that the place is way pricey. 2 — day old cupcakes were still $ 2.75. Which I think is half price. It’s not worth that kind of $ to me but for just this once…

Well, I must say I’m disappointed…
I always really want to see every little bakery do well, and sell amazing cupcakes, but I don’t see that in JuneBug’s future.
I walked in on my lunch hour craving something sweet, and hoping to get a few cupcakes to share with coworkers.
The lady at the counter was sweet and helpful, but the inside was a little sad. It was very bare. And so was the cupcake selection.
They have normal (large) sized cupcakes, and they have mini cupcakes (the size of a mini muffin). After being a little scared off by the $ 17 price tag on 6 cupcakes. I decided to go ahead about get 6 mini cupcakes for $ 7.
I left with 2 yellow cake/​lemon icing/​cream filled, 2 white almost almond flavored cake/​white icing, 1 chocolate cake/​peanut butter icing, and 1 chocolate chip cake/​white icing.
I myself ate 3 of them… the yellow cake, the white cake, and the chocolate chip.
The yellow cake was the best. The cream filling made it taste alot like a twinkie. The white cake and chocolate cake ones were very dry and there was nothing really special about them. The icing on each was a little dry and crunchy.
My friend ate the other 3… the yellow cake, the white cake, and the chocolate.
She had the same comments about them being dry as I did. The chocolate/​peanut butter one was her favorite. She said it had great flavor.
All in all, I kind of wish I would have saved my $ 7.00.

The prices are reasonable which surprised me since it is so close to the mall. I didn’t try the cupcake my friend did and she said it was very good. I had the brownie and I thought it was great. It isn’t very dense like you would think a brownie would be but it was still very good! I will be back!
