Probably my favorite restaurant in town, definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant in the region. The portions are large. Service is awesome. Food usually comes very quick and hot. The cheese sauce is absolutely fantastic and possibly addicting. They have some pretty authentic dishes and some simple dishes meant for people that don’t typically like Mexican food. Prices are very reasonable, even cheap for the taste you get and the size.

Had the giant ranchero burrito and I can’t stop eating them. We are from Chicago and have found it difficult to find good burritos and pizza out here. These burritos are just as good if not better than the burritos in Chicago. Now if I could only find a good pizza place I would be all set.

Very good food and atmosphere. While not the best Mexican restaurant in town, it was very good and would definitely go back. Salsa was fabulous. Large portions.

Ask them if the item you are ordering is remade and frozen. If it is then order something else. Usually this place is great. On this occasion I ordered a Chile Relleno. This was a big mistake because unlike the other food I had from there it was clearly freezer burned and had possibly been stuck in a place that allowed it to freeze and defrost after time. I had my wife try it just to make sure it wasn’t me and she spat it out right away. They didn’t charge us for the Relleno, but by then the damage was done and I was really sick all night. I’d give it five stars but after this I can’t bring myself to go back.

After a few hours of window shopping & shopping, we decided to eat here. Magnificent authentic Mexican food! When it comes to eating food from different cultures, I do my best to try the authentic food before I try the innovative creation of a dish first. This way I know what the original taste is. El Barcero also has a great atmosphere as well!

It was pretty good. Service was decent and food came out fast. Very good. Great flavors not much to say, really. Pretty much what you would expect out of a local Mexican restaurant.

I’ve been coming here for years. Service is always great and food is incredible. This is not Tex Mex – this is the real deal. The cheese dip is delicious and addictive. Huge selection on their menu. I’ve lived all over the U.S. and have travelled throughout Mexico. Every time we come into town we have to eat at El Bracero!

OMG, this place is so damn good. This may be the best Mexican food I’ve ever had. Prices are quite reasonable, and portions are large. The chips are salsa were fresh and delicious. I ordered the El Bracero seafood special. It was $ 11.99, It had amazing tilapia with shrimp, rice, lettuce, tomato, and guacamole. It was really hard to decide what to order since everything looked so good, but I was extremely pleased with this dish. I would happily eat this several times a week.(I actually looked it up in Google maps to see how long it would take to get here to go for dinner, but 1.5 hours is a bit too far). The other orders included the Veracruz fajitas(looked amazing), the tiliapia tacos(looked good, but not as good as the fajitas), and the chicken burrito(looked good, but not as good as my food). I was impressed that they had clear descriptions of all of the dishes on the menu, and even pronunciations. They also had a clear vegetarian section, and mentioned that they cook in vegetable oil. This makes it easier to eat with vegetarians. Everyone was quite happy with their food, and the restaurant selection. The server was efficient, and helpful. He helped us make good choices, and was there whenever we needed him. I plan to stop here every time I’m driving through Michigan City.

We frequent this restaurant often, usually the service is fast and friendly. This visit was very slow and not nearly as friendly as we are used to. It was also very confusing, the special of the night was a pitcher of beer either Blue Moon or Dos Equis for around $ 9. I tried to order the Blue Moon and I was told they didn’t even have Blue Moon so I said, ok I’ll take Dos Equis then I was asked what size, and I thought me pointing at the special this whole time would have told him that I wanted the special. But guess not. I ended up getting a Margarita because it just seemed easier to order. The food was as good as it has ever been, the chips are crisp and the salsa is full of flavor. I ordered the carne asada tacos, these were delicious! A large amount of steak is presented in 2 corn tortillas and wrapped in foil so they stay hot. I got 3 tacos with my order and it came with a side of beans and poco de gallo. The portion of meat inside these tacos was huge, the steak was falling out of the taco! The steak tasted great and was tender. The cheese sauce you can order is very good. They should smother everything they have in the cheese sauce. The margarita wasn’t so great, I had the strawberry margarita. It was too sweet for me, and I couldn’t tell if it was a mix or not. My boyfriend ordered a mixed drink, which was reasonably priced. $ 5 got him a large(8 oz) cup of captain & coke and he said it tasted like he made it at home.

I really like Mexican food. But the chips and salsa seem like they come from a bag and salsa from a can then they add cilantro and onion, just not fresh enough, I can tell they cut corners. FORGET about a server coming back to check on you, the service is rediculous. Overall it is better than Hacienda’s food. But that is not much of a compliment.

Pretty good. The beef for tacos are on the bland side. The rice has an burnt ash smell to it at times. The chips and salsa are good. The restaurant is dated, but all in all its a place i would eat at again.

Found this place on Unilocal, and went here with a few friends on our way back from Warren Dunes. Service was a little lacking, it took awhile to get refills for drinks and for a waiter to come and take our order/get the check. Only the first round of chips are complementary, but any subsequent baskets you want you be charged for. Additionally, the table next to us got their drinks and food far before us, even though we got there significantly before them. However, once we got our food, it was quite tasty. If we were in the area again, we would probably go elsewhere.

This was our Saturday evening dinner spot on our recent road trip. We were both craving Mexican and this was really close to our hotel. The food was excellent. And we had a pitcher of neon green margaritas for $ 13.50. That’s like the price of one margarita in Chicago! I ordered the Mexican flag enchiladas. One with red sauce, one with green sauce, one with cheese sauce! It was so much food I couldn’t finish it all. But I sure wanted to try. My friend ordered one of the combination dishes and it was also delicious. I’d definitely come here again when I’m traveling through the area!

I usually stop here for lunch or dinner whenever I am traveling through Michigan City. The food is authentic Mexican, the portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. The employees are friendly and service is quick and efficient. What more could you ask for? How about margarita specials? Yes of course, and these are not watered-down either. I recommend the spicy cheese dip. It really isn’t too spicy but it is so smooth and melty that you just want to drink it. Just stir in a little hot sauce, or a lot.

Best Mexican food in the area. Authentic and cheap. Rarely have I had sub-par service here. They are generally quick to bring you chips and salsa, bring drinks, and take your order. The best part with this place is that I can actually converse in Spanish with the staff and they understand me. There are too many wannabe Mexican restaurants these days where the staff can’t even speak Spanish. If you’re craving authentic Mexican food, go here. The question blanco dip is a must have appetizer and I have yet to find an entrée that wasn’t good.
