Not only is the meats superb. My three favs were the original jerky, hot link and honey/​wine pork (had a consistency of pâté and it was to die for! Don’t get wrong the brat, polish and hot dog, hot, Jamaican, bourbon beef jerky were all great but I had to draw up my 3 favs overall.
Not only is the shop super cool but the owner is downright awesome! Very cool down to earth person that loves to smoke meat. He has some serious skills that I’m very jealous of! Lol. I will always return to this establishment not only bc the food is killer but the experience is far greater than just food.

Love it! Walked in on a slow weekday afternoon, immediately handed a beef stick (the whole thing) as a sample and the owner offers me a beer. Whole thing caught me off guard and as I gather myself I notice the two other men sitting on the side hanging out. The stick was great! Shooting the bull with these boys was just as great. The owner was generous with the samples and I bought an assortment of familiar sausages and a few things I’d never seen before to share with some men I was having dinner with. Huge hit! Went back the next day and spent 3x as much on stuff to bring home for the family (one of the guys from the day before was «still» there. Owner cold smokes to perfection!

Everything is good from here! Above and beyond service! Any of the jerky is outstanding! you won’t be disappointed!

I’ve been coming here since I was a child, and it’s always as good as I remember. Pete is such a great guy, and really knows his stuff. Loooove the dry-​aged steaks and beef sticks, but I’ve never had anything that was less than amazing from here.

This place is so authentically «mom and pop» and packed with old-​timey charm, I’m almost surprised a doppelgänger doesn’t already exist in Brooklyn. The best part isn’t the non-​stop cornucopia of delicious samples Pete (I assume the proprietor and jerkey maker) immediately offers you, but Pete himself! He’s warm, generous and proud of his product (as he should be! It’s he best!). He’s curious about his customers and engages in conversation. Brought back to New York about 2 lbs of beef jerky. Cost us only $ 20.

Five, is that as high as the ratings go? Well, then that’ll have to do. If you’re looking for a variety of artisanal meats — raw, cured, or smoked, Lange’s is the place. I have trouble finding wurst sticks so I was excited to see the sign saying, «Our wurst is the best». We tried the jerky, more dry than I prefer but the honey wine log and snack sticks were top notch. I like that Pete is generous with the samples. It let us buy exactly what we liked. There were two things that blew me away: first, the thick cut sirloin smoked meat (not quite «jerky» in my opinion) was so good I almost went nuts. Salty, warm, tender, a little greasy. Doesn’t get any better. Finally, as we’re getting our order finalized, Pete says, «How about a cold beer while you wait?» Somebody pinch me, I think I’m in heaven! Nice job sir, I am a devoted customer now.

Everything I’ve tried here is fantastic. Teriyaki links are definitely a favorite. There are some unique options including Apple beef jerky, red wine blackberry smoke sirloin, and chicken jerky! Staff is very friendly and generous with the tast-​tests. If you’re in the area, it’s definitely worth a visit.

The meat from Lange’s is fantastic. You get what you pay for and Pete produces some high quality product! My family brought us some jerky, sirloin loaf, pork chops and beef sticks as a treat when they came to Detroit for the Dream Cruise and I was pleasantly surprised. The jerky isn’t the classic jerky you think of — no thin sheets of meat here! It’s a large chunk of meat (tenderloin?), tender and delicious. It is, hands down, the most delicious piece of meat I’ve ever had. The pork chops are juicy and tender, and the sirloin loaf is very flavorful. We had plain and teriyaki beef sticks that were also very flavorful. My family frequents the area from Chicago and have shipped us meat to Detroit, which arrived cold and fresh. After a misunderstanding about the order to be sent to Detroit, Pete went above and beyond to make things right and I am happily enjoying yet another piece of delicious jerky right now. He truly cares about his customers and the excellent meats he produces. The docs from Detroit will be frequenting Lange’s Meat Market both online and as we pass through back home to Chicago! Well worth the price for high quality meats!

Worth the detour off the highway for fresh meat for the weekend grill! Owner is a friendly laid back dude. We’ll be stopping here again!

Stopped in looking for smoked meat and wasn’t disappointed. Bought beef sticks, a huge slab of jerky tenderloin and about the best smoked chicken breast I’ve ever had. Prices a bit high, but worth it for a treat once in a while.

Stopped in today to check the place out, and wound up leaving with some landjäger and beef jerky. Will certainly go back for some hot dogs next time I’m in town. Great atmosphere, very friendly, lots and lots of free samples to taste. Just awesome!

My husband and I love Langes. It is always a pleasure (and quite an experience!) to shop there. Samples, suggestions, and stories are free-​flowing. Husband has never been disappointed in their meats. We are used to shopping at Whole Foods in Chicago for our fish and meats, so the prices seem reasonable for the fine quality. We both look forward to every visit there. Highly recommend! And contrary to one of the previous posts, they do accept credit cards.

My husband is a fan of their jerky and beef sticks. It completely creeps me out these sit uncovered on top of the cases and whatever bugs sneak in can get all over them. Why can’t they get a wire mesh done to cover these!!! (This is my gripe with them). My family loves their hot dogs and we often go here when we are in town. I personally haven’t eaten anything from here in almost a decade but the meat eaters in my life are big fans of Langes! PS you need cash!

If I could give this place negative stars, I would. IMO, those who are giving this place good reviews have drank multiple cups of the Koolaid and they aren’t paying attention to the quality of the meat.
To begin with, these guys are NOT butchers, they wouldn’t be able to properly cut up a quadruped if their life depended on it. They get cryovaced pieces of meat, trim them up and then cut them to the thickness they need.
My «beef» with these guys is deception. Years ago, they passed off some select or choice cuts of beef as PRIME. It’s simply WRONG and fraudulent! Go compare one of his «prime» steaks compared to an Allen Brothers steak for instance. Apples and Oranges.
Langes, err. the consumer, needs to understand that if you have some paraphernalia on walls and toss some saw dust on the floor that doesn’t give you the right to overcharge and misrepresent the product.
The best bet for buying meats locally, hands down, is East Side Produce on HWY 20, east of hwy 35 and west of 39 on the south side of the street.

Best hot dogs and spicy beef jerky on the planet! BAR NONE!

This place is awesome. I’ll second Seth’s review; coming here is definitely an EXPERIENCE. Peter, the owner, is one of those people who knows everybody. And if he didn’t know you when you walked through the door, he’ll know you by the time you leave. I have to disagree with the other reviewers assertion about the high prices. I feel the price is in line with other meat markets. Sure it is more expensive than the meat counter at your local grocery store, but the quality is also a hundred times better. You get what you pay for. This old time meat market is a fun time. You will not be disappointed.

Fantastic meat at some pretty high prices. The jerky is more like smoked slabs of tenderloin. Very tender and yummy not what you would expect.
Give it a try but bring lots of money with you.

This place, which is an EXPERIENCE, is located on the block between the Lighthouse Place outlet stores and the historic part of Michigan City (where there’s a lovely farmer’s market on Saturdays). When you come in to this old-​time butcher shop and smokehouse, you find the inside is filled with election paraphernalia ranging the spectrum of American politics. You’ll then be bombarded with conversation and scrumptious free samples — but they will make their money back on those samples! Make sure to interrupt all the joviality to ask how much everything is before you buy anything — I won’t tell you how much I paid for two slabs of ribs — but the smoked pork chops I bought were reasonably priced and delicious!
