So what’s the big news in Laundromats you ask? Well I’ll tell you. Nothing really. The machines require you to carry an inordinate amount of change. The 5 minute dryer rule still applies(after 5 minutes of no tumbling your dryer can be confiscated) and it’s still bad form(and illegal in some jurisdictions) to put your child inside a dryer. Google that last part, it did happen. But one thing that Laundry Kingdom has that others do not is a good wash, dry and fold service. I have tried a couple of places over the last year and their is tops. Good enough for your everyday dress shirts and slacks. There is no pressing so consider this only good enough for your«B» game. Use dry cleaning for«A» game days.
A B.

DONOTDOLAUNDRYHERE! Please read on to find out what this place does right and how over the space of the year it has become downright nasty. Here is the condensed version: After initially being pleased with this place I have grown extremely dissatisfied and will not be giving them my business anymore. Over the last year this place has become dirty, unsafe, not well maintained and generally run down. I would say ONLY come here if you have no car and have to walk. If you have a car continue down the road please! Its too bad because the Patchogue location looks very nice and very well maintained. Detailed version: I’ve lived in the area for a little over a year and have been doing laundry here since I’ve moved here. Its a bit far from me but it is open late and generally empty after 8pm on my laundry night which is usually Tues, Weds, or Thurs. It is a good size with a lot of machines and a lot of driers. There are large tables for folding clothes and lots of change machines throughout. The staff was generally very friendly when asked for changing $ 20 bills into smaller bills. Those were the positives… and here are the negatives which have slowly developed over the last year and have caused me to never do laundry here again. (Lack of) CLEANLINESS — Over the last couple of months I have more than once seen cockroaches and other insects crawling around on the floor and once on a folding table. This is not a restaurant so there should be nothing attracting them here. Lord only knows how dirty this place is in the back areas. Also, the fact that disease ridden insects are crawling and defecating on surfaces where clean clothes will be placed is a HUGE minus. Roaches should flee when they see light yet these just stroll out into a brightly fluorescent lit room… Guess they feel comfortable here :-x I’ve used the bathroom a couple of times and it was actually very clean. However, I’ve stopped using the bathroom once I noticed that homeless people walk in off the street, request or just take the key, and go in. This week a homeless woman w/obviously soiled pants came in to use the bathroom. Nasty. SAFETY — In the dimly lit parking lot I have noticed more and more people hanging out in front of the business and in random corners of the lot, all with no cars. The last two months I have been going almost each time one or more people have begged for change w/no shame or reluctance. Recently, a homeless man came up to me and offered to help me w/my laundry bags… I parked right in front of the door and declined. Of course he proceeded to ask for change. The first time a guy around my age(mid to late 20s) asked me for 3 or 4 bucks to take a cab back home. He looked very drunk and had some sob story about spending all his money that night. I gave him 2 quarters and he proceeded to harass me for more money. I’ve since seen him there almost every other week over the last 6 or 7 months. He’s usually wearing a baseball cap and sleeveless shirt. Last month a teenage boy on a bike was riding back and forth between the parking lot of the laundry and the 7 – 11 across the street harassing customers of both businesses for change. This is apparently the hot spot to pan handle. In addition to the people begging for change and just loitering outside and in dark corners, I have seen homeless just walk into the laundry while I’m washing clothes and beg everyone there for change. The employees ignore them — I suspect they do not want any problems(not that I blame them) but they should at least put a complaint in to the police. DECLININGSERVICE I’ve noticed more and more machines being tagged as out of service lately. Generally this does not affect me since I go during the slow time but I imagine it must be maddening during the day when there are 5 machines in a row that are just sitting. The machines that are still in service have issues as well. A lot of washing machines have broken status gauges so it is hard to judge what part of the cycle a machine is currently in. Also a some dryers refuse to start again if you open the door to check your clothes — at this point your only solution is to switch machines. Lastly, if you have issues with a machine eating quarters or not starting your are out of luck after 9pm, even though it closes at 11pm. When a machine ate my money I was told I would have to come back the next day before 9pm to get my $.25 since there is no one«in charge» of giving back money to customers after 9pm. The employee proceeded to point to sign listing business hours for pickup and drop off. When I informed him that I am not pickup or dropping off, but that I usually do laundry between 9pm and 11pm I was told«its not my problem.» I liked his attitude so as of this week Laundry Kingdom is not my problem. I cannot stress enough that this place has become nasty, unsafe, and generally a hassle to do laundry at.
