Unfortunate bad experience — the tomato and basil pizza was slobbered with cheese. They erred and corrected with a small version done correctly, yet charged us for the full. Foolhardy on their part. Must say, the bacon pizza was delicious. Have eaten here before and our pizzas were good. Not sure what’s gone wrong here. We politely complained, yet when the bill arrived the bill still listed the pizza(of which we ate only 1 slice). After making a comment, they said the manager gave no credit … then changed their mind. Could have been Unilocal appearing on my iPhone(hmmm).

I haven’t been here for a while. There’s a good reason. Judging from the other reviews, I guess things haven’t changed much. Let me tell you a story… When it first opened, I would stop in on occasion, mostly to sit at the bar in the afternoon. Drinks were reasonably priced, and it was quiet. There was always a soccer game on the television. Apparently, they could only get one channel and that was it. I managed to convince a friend to join me one afternoon. After a couple of cocktails, we decided to order a pizza. The choice was left to me, and after looking through the menu, settled on the«Meat Lover» pie(pepperoni, bacon, sausage, meatball). I was hungry, and ordered a large, and told them to double the meat. When it came out, it had a couple sad pieces of pepperoni and a few thin slices of meatball. No bacon, no sausage. We brought this to the attention of the server, who got the manager/owner. He looked at it and asked, «What’s wrong with this?» When I pointed out the lack of double meat(BTW — $ 1.50 each additional topping, which meant I spent $ 26), or even all the regular meat promised, he told me that this is the way it’s made. When I began to point out(I don’t argue-I reason) that this wasn’t what was promised on the menu, nor what I expected, he told me that if I didn’t like it, I didn’t have to come back. I paid my bill and we left, never to darken their doorway again. Since I don’t drink beer, the numerous taps on the wall don’t interest me. If I did drink beer, there are several other places around that have a similar selection. I have had pizza from there since, at parties, meetings and such, and I was still not impressed with what they produced. I’m not saying it was the worst pizza I ever had(that honor goes to a hotel kitchen in St. Louis — spaghetti sauce on bread dough with slices of American cheese), but it was far outside the norm for the area. I really liked the place, but it was no Perotti’s. The skimpiness of the toppings on the pie wasn’t the issue, it was the«take it or leave it» attitude of the person with whom I dealt that was the deal killer. I’m glad some people have had better experiences. For me, that one episode was a deal-breaker.

Very chaotic when you enter. We were put in the back room behind the bar which is terrible! Small square room with low ceilings and no sound proofing. Was so loud I was going to leave after asking to move and being told there was no other tables. DONOT accept a table in the back room if there are any large parties(6+) also there. You will not be able to have a conversation. The beer selection is good. The pie was good even though they forgot one of my toppings. I will try again on Tuesdays when beers are $ 2.

One of the best craft beer selections in Connecticut. One of the few spots you’ll regularly find beers from Vermont’s Lawson’s Finest Liquids(Sip Of Sunshine, Super Session #2), Maine Beer Company and other top-level craft beers. Great local Connecticut beer selection as well. Beers rotate often with different varieties and seasonal options. Good pub food. I’m a fan of the buffalo wings. Pizza is great, too(both thin crust and Sicilian styles).

We ate here four times. First two times food was great, service good. Meat lovers pizza with extra sauce was amazing. Buffalo chicken pizza with extra sauce was good. Third time, food great, service was questionable. We had three kids under age 13 in our group and they chose to seat us right behind a group of teenagers who swore and incessantly talked about drugs. The teens have every right to have their conversation. I blame this on the person who seated us at the restaurant. They should have known better than to seat young kids next to a group of teenagers. With that said, we liked the food so decided to give the place a fourth try as a family. Upon biting into a slice of pizza my husband bit right into a penny! That’s right — there was a penny in the pizza! He spit it right out, but had a horrible toothache and couldn’t eat any more food. He had to take Motrin and orajel that night to relieve the pain. The waitress apologized and offered to make a new pie for us or take it off the bill. Neither option would take my husband’s pain away. He couldn’t eat. The manager came out and also apologized, but insisted that he personally made the pizza and didn’t understand how that could have happened! An apology accompanied by an excuse is not an apology. And to boot he took less than the full price of the pizza off the bill. We were floored. Upon taking our other pizza home, when we opened up the box for leftovers the next day, there was a baked potato chip in the box next to the pizza. Absolutely unacceptable. I greatly caution against eating at this place, something I have never voiced of any restaurant before.

Not very good even for pub fare. Lots of beer on tap earning it 2 stars. Eat somewhere else and go there for a night cap.

We ordered 5 pizzas for a kid’s birthday party and the consensus amongst the adults around the table was that there is no compelling reason the order from this restaurant again. The crust was tough and tasteless, and the pizza was dry. I had to drink water with each bite to get it down. Our families never have leftovers with this number of pizzas, and there was lots left when everyone was finished eating.

Food is horrible, pizza barely edible and bar is extremely uncomfortable. BUT outdoor deck is awesome and beers or plentiful with a great selection. Service is above average. Eat down the street and finish the night on the new deck

If would have asked me what I thought of this location when it was newer, I would have given it a higher rating. It has gone down hill fast. And it’s really too bad, because if you live here, you don’t have many options. The best thing about this place is the beer. They do have a great variety. But see the trick is getting good service in order to get said beer. We went in here a couple of weeks ago to order a drink while waiting for out pizza. We sat at the bar, got a menu from the bartender, then she disappeared. We picked out what we wanted pretty quick. then we waited. and waited. 10 minutes go by. my boyfriend was getting up to leave. I didn’t realize that was the plan so I called to the hostess at the same time to ask where the bartender was. Took her a couple of minutes to get her too. But the thing is, this isn’t our only experience of being left to wonder what the hell was going on. This just happened to be the time that made up throw in the towel. We’ve had to track down anyone we could find for out bill or to order another beer, the food isn’t so great(I’ve actually had to send back a salad!!!), but … oh the beer. But now, not even worth it. I’ve been having some pretty bad experiences with service recently(I’ve already signed off on Triple Play and Ceviche. same owner. I know) so we really wanted this place to be the go to. But after all the bad experiences(I really don’t have the time to type them all out) with service, we just can’t make it back in unless we hear there’s been a revamp. So here’s to hoping…

I’m not quite sure why this place has seen so many haters! I thought it was fantastic! I had the calamari appy, and I have to say, I’m a calamari enthusiast! This was one of the best I’ve ever had! Very unique, with Gorgonzola and jalapeños added. SOOO yummy! Had the P.O.B. Pizza(Potato, Onion, Bacon) and it was stellar! Caramelized onions, potato slices thin and crumbly bacon… yum! Had the P&P Bulldozer IPA, and I was very happy with the brew! I think people come here thinking it’s something it’s not. I didn’t have that problem, obviously! No preconceived notions due to past owners or whatnot! Give this place an honest try and my guess is it’ll win you over!

I’ve returned to this restaurant and the Waterbury one many times. Service is inconsistent, but I’m going to write about my specific experience last night. I arrived with three friends and we were immediately greeted and seated. Our waitress came by and asked if we wanted a drink. While one guest was unsure, she asked if it was ok to put in the orders that were placed and then return for his. The drinks came out quickly, and we placed our order. We ordered wings(grilled and fried) and four pies(gluten free, cheese, and two specialty). The wings came out reasonably fast, and were absolutely delicious. The citrus chipotle is my favorite, sweet with some heat, and the honey garlic is also quite good. The pizzas arrived about ten minutes later, which was perfect timing for us. Service was appropriately attentive. I love the sauce they use on the pizza, it is so fresh tasting. The crust was also great, not too thick or thin(I prefer a thin crust, my husband [refers a thick, this is a nice happy medium). We also ordered dessert(lemon cake is light and delicious!). We were not rushed out, even after paying the check and lingering over our last drinks. A great place to meet friends who appreciate good beer, pizza and wings. I recommend not ordering any other items off the menu.

Perrottis this is not. That’s a good thing if you want a good bar. That’s a bad thing if you want good pizza. I was disappointed a number of years ago to hear that Perrottis was closing and being sold and re-opened with a corny name of Pies & Pints. This news came with pros and cons. The pro being that the restaurant would now have a bar. The con being that the food would arguably suffer and sadly this has been the case. The pizza is just kind of bland. It has no real flavor and is really greasy. It’s not terrible like Dominoes or Little Caesars but it’s nowhere near the average pizza place that is omnipresent in this area. Middlebury Pizza in walking distance down in the next plaza doesn’t have amazing pizza, but it’s better than here. The main draw of Pies & Pints is the bar. They have a huge tap with 28 beers on it. There’s a large variety of beers and their appetizers are pretty good and blend well with the beer. Although the times I’ve eaten pizza here with beer, it has tasted better than when eating take out pizza, but that might just be the beer talking. The food gets 2-stars, the bar gets 4-stars, so the final score is an even 3-star. This place isn’t bad and is really good for the area to add some semblance of non-elderly activity. The restaurant is clean and the bar is usually pretty busy, staff is very nice. It really is a good place to go grab drinks and some appetizers, but for take out pizza, there are dozens of better options within a 20 minute drive.

I would only come here for a pie or a pint. Being a Middlebury native, I have been ordering from Pies & Pints since it was Perrotti’s Pizza. Recently, I ordered nachos and a calzone to eat at the pub area near the bar. The nachos were very average(maybe our fault for ordering Mexican food from a pizza joint). The salsa was dried out and old looking and the chicken was tough. The calzone was the size of a football; it was big enough for three people to share. The calzone came out of the oven piping hot and was oozing mozzarella and ricotta cheese. We added spinach and sausage to our calzone but I would not recommend adding sausage. My friend(another Middlebury native) who is a sausage fanatic even disapproved. The bar tends to attract a younger crowd on college breaks and it provides a relaxed atmosphere for friends to get catch up. If you stick to the 2 $ beers on Tuesday nights and a pie you will leave a happy customer.

It depends on what you are looking for! If you want beer and a small-town Vermont bar atmosphere, this is your spot. Twenty-six VERY interesting beers on tap. You even get the daily beer menu to choose from. I am there at least twice a week. As for Pizza, good to very good. I think a large pie with three toppings comes in north of $ 25, so not cheap. It’s no Pepe’s but I’ve been coming for three years. I would recommend the«thin and crispy». You have to ask for it. As for the menu items. They are ok. Certainly nothing special. One item, the Saccatelli(sp?) is really quite nice. I have had it dozens of times. It is little pasta pillows of great tasting cheese, with shrimp in a cream sauce. We think it is the best item on the menu. The salads that come with the meals are pretty boring. You know, iceberg lettuce and some interesting additions, but pretty boring. This is a place where you take your family for a pizzeria style environment, or you come here for the beer. The bar can either be a bunch of guys or it can be wall-to-wall with locals and twenty-somethings. Depends on the night. $ 2 drafts(good drafts) on Tuesday night is hard to beat. Oh, burgers are good. Cheesesteak sandwich is BORING and tasteless. Chicken Parm is Chicken Parm … Nothing special

Disappointed. I ordered eggpland parm but the waitress insisted I ordered veal parm. They put too much sauce on everything. I wasn’t impressed. Not going back again.

Pies & Pints of Middletbury makes a reasonable pizza and has a decent tap list. if you are passing by it is worth stopping in to see what is on tap and enjoy a few pints. the pizza — i don’t know where i would say it falls on the pizza map — it’s not new haven or new york, not really italian or greek — maybe something like a thin crust greek pie? i don’t know if that’s a thing. overall it was OK and i really have no complaints but I wouldn’t call this place a pizza destination, but it is a beer destination — so if you are looking for brew, head to Pies & Pints.(also it is conveniently located along side a nice hiking trail that we hike on when it is warmer) Also worth noting, the large pie is very large.

My wife and I went out for pizza at Pies and Pints on Saturday, 11÷12÷13. I have been wanting to eat here for a while and looked forward to trying their pizza. We entered the restaurant and entered the bar area. We were not greeted by anyone so we didn’t know whether to sit or wait to be seated. We saw that there was another part of the restaurant next to the bar. There were a few tables and it looked liked it was where customers ordered and picked up food for take out. We wanted to sit in that area, but again, we really didn’t know because there was no one to greet us. Not a welcoming first impression. We finally decided to sit ourselves in the take out section. I went up to place an order because I had no idea if we were going to be served. I waited while a waitress was on the phone with another customer. She was on the phone for several minutes. Finally, another waitress came over to the counter and took my order. I got my own drinks and brought it back to my table. While we waited for our pizza we felt uncomfortably cold and wished the heat was set a little higher. When our pizza came we were pleasantly surprised how big it was. It was larger than the usual large pizzas you get. The crust was thin, light, and cooked perfectly. The toppings were good and not greasy. After we got our pizza the table service was great. Our waitress came over to check on us twice. I wish the service started better. Good pizza but their service and lack of greeting the customer upon entering the restaurant needs improvement.
