This place is great! Delicious homemade rolls, sells local bakery, and makes great espresso & coffee. The Old Sauk location has a wonderful staff & a delicious menu. I’d recommend it to anyone, whether you need a nice space to get work done or are meeting a few friends to catch up.

I’ve been to this location many times as it was just up the street from my old home. They’ve been a destination for a quick lunch, a place to chat with my gal pals over delicious Mexican hot chocolate, and a cozy getaway to hunker down and work. This location has a good amount of tables with accessible outlets, a lot of natural light up front from the large picture window, and comfy chair situated around a fire place in the back. Service is generally quick and friendly no matter the time of day. I’ve enjoyed their BBQ Ranch Chicken Wrap with pasta salad on a few occasions, and on my last trip I tried the Barriques Breakfast Sandwich. I had seen it on a friend’s Twitter feed and it looked so amazing pillowy and delicious that I had to try it. I made some slight modifications to the sandwich in losing the egg and adding bacon and tomato. The ingredients inside the sandwich were delicious, but the breakfast roll itself was incredibly dry and over-browned. I was under the impression they were baked in-store, but I was sitting overlooking the kitchen and the rolls were in a plastic bag like the kind you get your grocery store bakery. It’s totally possible that they were just using leftovers from the day before or get them from another store, but since the roll is what drew me in it was kind of a bummer to have it be dry instead of soft and tasting fresh out of the oven. Overall, though, the quality has been good so I’ll give the breakfast sandwich another whirl when I’m craving a decadent breakfast.

The Cayuga street location is my favorite place in Middleton! The staff is always friendly, food and drink is awesome and a cozy atmosphere. I work right by a Starbucks but take the extra drive to come to Barriques! Unfortunately I cannot say the same about the Old Sauk location, the staff always seems grumpy and they’re pretty slow at making orders.

There was construction at my apartment building so I was looking for a quiet spot for a cell phone recharge, reading moment, and lunch. I needed to be on the westside for a movie outing afterwards for I explored the Old Sauk area for a spot. I walked through all the restaurant spots in the Old Sauk Row. The counter person at Barrique was helpful as she pointed out all the possible outlets. The other restaurant choices in Old Sauk Row had no outlet options. Barrique fit the bill for a place with an outlet and food, so I plugged in. It was not as quiet as I was hoping for. The low din was a bit distracting to read my paperback so I switched to a magazine. Barriques is a good place to socialize as many small groups of people were having great conversations. Coffee or wine. Sandwiches or Desserts… something for everybody. But I learned a Saturday at lunch time is just not a good time to try to slip into a book. I ordered the Cuban sandwich and a Miel expresso drink. The Miel was good but could have used a bit more honey. The Cuban used very good quality pork and cheese. But it was made almost inedible due to the Napalm Mustard that was used. That mustard had to have had horseradish or something that went right into my nose on each bite. I took the bottom of the bread off so I could at least eat the meat and cheese. I would try it again without the mustard and hope for the best. The Old Sauk location is a small store front but has many tables. The counter area is well stocked and easy to view choices. I will not be hard pressed to come back if the opportunity arises.

My latte is fantastic. I’ve always had a good experience at Barriques on McKee. The service I received today was pretty bad. Rude and crabby. I bought a yogurt parfait with yogurt, fresh fruit and granola. All it was was a 12oz. cup of yogurt with 2 pieces of strawberry in it. No granola. When I asked for it, the employee was very crabby and put a spoonful of granola on the counter in front of me and walked away.

Based on my experience this morning, I will not be back! I ordered a large decaf café au lait. I watched as they opened the cooler, took out OLD, COLD decaf coffee dumped it into the steamer with milk and heated it up. How’s that for hot, fresh coffee??? If you didn’t have fresh decaf made, you should have told me when I ordered. That is not the definition of a café au lait that I paid $ 3+ dollars for. Not to mention, the milk was then not frothy nor foamy as its supposed to be because it was BLENDEDWITHICECOLDOLDCOFFEE. Ridiculous coming from a place that prides itself on serving some of Madison’s best. See ya.

I’ve been here about 5 times now. Generally in the evenings. Service has been poor all but one of those times. They act as if they have something else they’d rather be doing. One night a gentlemen actually vacuum around my feet 1 hour before closing. Tonight I ordered a tuna wrap. The employee asked if I’d like it cold or hot. Asked for it to be a melt(hot). It came out mircowaved.

Great coffee & decent snacks/food. I really like that they have the Belly rewards! It’s a great place to study and grab a drink if you come by in the evening.

I have been coming here on and off for roughly a year. This place used to be so much better. The coffee is good, but the help leaves everything to be desired. They are exceedingly slow. They mess up orders with increasing frequency. Many just seem to stand around doing little to nothing. If something goes wrong at the cash register they just look at you like they are lost. Mistakes on their part get nothing but a, «Sorry about that,» AGAIN. Find another place or just dive to the new Starbucks.

I want to give this place 4 stars, but I’ve been here enough and the baristas never seem to be in a good mood. Coffee shops are supposed to be happy places, and I get it… But as a customer it’s a little bit of a downer. Otherwise, decent coffee and pretty reliable free wifi make it a good choice. I’d like to try one of their wine events as well. Also, you can’t really go wrong with the food – good ingredients make for tasty options!

We often have our Saturday morning coffee date here. Great service, great coffee and usually great food. The last time we were in there the rolls they use for sandwiches were very stale and crumbly, it was a disappointment but, it’s minor in comparison with the positive experiences we’ve had.

I know you guys aren’t going to believe me, but I got a scone here that was as good as the scones at Lazy Jane’s. I know that’s not possible, right? But I swear, the maple scone was delicious. Its flavor might have been a tad more«in your face» than Lazy Jane’s, but the texture was more delicate. I must be delusional. Right? On the other hand I don’t really like their coffee so 3 stars it is since i always get coffee but only occasionally get a scone.

Great coffee and service. The food is decent, a little overpriced. Definitely busier than they used to be, but I’ll take it if it means they stick around. This location is a little worse for wear if you ask me. The other locations are definitely cleaner, especially the bathrooms.

Great coffee, and the breakfast sandwich has kept me alive through trying times. Fireplace on a cold morning like this is heaven.

Visited for a cool drink and a snack. Fine chai lattes. They have almond and soy milks. There is a menu of breakfast foods and wraps for lunch. The atmosphere includes local photos of the state Capitol building and dairy cows being serenaded by a jazz band. The shiny marine varnished tables were numerous and well spaced. There’s a fireplace for winter. Oh, and they have a liquor license so they can Irish that coffee up for you. A fine example of a local coffee house.

Solid beans, decent selection of baked goods, Delicious Scones, super comfy atmosphere, and nice staff. Good for the morning cup and pastry. Have yet to try anything breakfasty, but the granola looks very homemade and the breakfast wraps sound delish.
