I am done with Goodwill. All locations. This is where the final straw broke my proverbial camel’s back. Not only did I recently learn that Goodwill is essentially a non-tax paying, for-profit corporation that lines the pockets of its executives with wealth(not intrinsically deplorable, but deplorable to do so in the non-profit sector) by reselling the old crap that you give them for free, they’ve also become ULTRA picky about the crap they’re willing to take from you. Goodwill doesn’t take mattresses anymore. They don’t take ANYTHING a baby could use(because you know, small children aren’t a high need/high risk population or anything), they don’t take tube TVs! I know, it’s old technology, but you’d rather me send it to the landfill than take the off chance that some poor bastard might want it for $ 5? It walks and talks like a duck. They don’t want these things because of liability and their profit structure. Clothes and shoes sell, furniture sells, dishes sell. When their OWNWEBSITE states«recycling is costly» as an excuse for not taking tube televisions, you know they only care about one thing… money, not people. Oh, and by the way, I call BULLSHIT. Recycling of electronics is FREE at every transfer station I’ve ever been to. How dare they abuse the environmentalist flag as a boondoggle for their profit structure. Sorry, but I’m going with Savers from here on out. Yeah, they throw up a veil of their own, but at least they’re a self-admitted for-profit venture, and they pay taxes.

Goodwill Store. what’s not to love? Ok. well, there is a lot of stinky stuff that is not to love but it is a good store full of used stuff that you can buy for cheap(well, sometimes it is cheap but recently it feels like whoever is pricing stuff is going on ebay to see what it is worth and then putting it our for that price, which is usually way too high for Goodwill). Stores like this are hit-or-miss, so the more you go the more time you waste but the more likely you are to find something for cheap that you are excited about scoring. Unfortunately, they do not sell beer or pizza.

I love the chance to be the first to review a business. I would never consider writing a review about a thrift store, but what makes this place noteworthy is something that I did not expect to see in CT… but would have expected to see out here in the car-obsessed world that is LA. A drive through donation carport. This was awesome. I was clearing out a whole bunch of old belongings that I had at the family residence in Middletown, and was concerned about how I was going to get all of the donations into the center. Further complicating things… it was raining that day. Not only was I able to stay dry during the donations… some helpful staff was available to pick up the items directly out of my trunk. I cannot believe that I just left a review for a donation center, but this place was a standout!
