Hyman Bros. Mitsubishi

My wife and I were in the market for a new vehicle and after going to a failed dealership in Christiansburg, Va decided to look here. We were very surprised at how good the experience was. Car buying is normally very stressful and for the most part this was stress free. There was a little annoyance because of a remote start install that took twice as long as expected but that was done by a third party so I cant fault the dealership for that. Greg the business manager was very professional and also down to earth. I could talk with that guy all day. And the biggest surprise was that there was no pressure the entire time. In fact it was a very lax environment with people letting us take out time and think about things. Because of this experience I will return here for my next new car purchase and that says something considering I live 3 hours away!!!

I would not recommend this dealer to any one what so ever. By far the worst experience my husband and I have ever had.
My husband bought a used 2008 Lexus Rx 330 a little less than a year ago. We had several minor repairs at first as expected. However what was not expected was that upon state inspection 8 months later (it had been inspected and had stickers when we bought it) we learned that one of the struts had been broken for quite some time and that car had been dangerous to drive since before we bought it. (Mind you Hyman performed what they called an inspection on the vehicle, which we had to pay for, twice before we drove it away). We also did not expect that within a year the transmission as well as the gear box would essentially fall out of the car causing the car to be immobile. We had the car towed to the Lexus dealership, after we called Hyman bros and were rudely told that because the car was not covered by warranty anymore they refused to look at it. Lexus did a major inspection on the vehicle and came back to tell us that it would cost $ 15,000 just to get the car to pass inspection. We were told that there were metal shavings in the gear box and transmission as well as many other major repairs to include the radiator, exhaust, drive train, engine, and suspension systems. They said they have never seen an RX so young with so many major problems except in the ones they had seen where the odometer had been rolled back significantly. Our car was showing wear and tear of a car with mileage over twice that of what the odometer reads. We were informed that the way to test for the odometer to be positive is very difficult and expensive and that we should get our attorney involved ASAP.
we did just that. Upon calling our attorney in front of the manager at the Hyman dealership, after he accused us of bluffing we were told they would take the car back and replace it with an equivalent and credit for money already paid.
But, getting the equivalent was not easy. it took two weeks just for them to say the car was ready (all it needed was brake pads) and then when we arrived to pick it up they told us there was now power steering problems. We had already jumped through hoops we should not have had to jump through in regards to financing the new car, as we had already had financing and it was their issue as to why we needed a trade. They made the process as difficult as possible and as infuriating as they could, being rude and snide the whole time. We ultimately did not accept the trade and they took back the RX that was clearly a lemon when they sold it. We took our money and our business else where. We have started the process on the investigation into the real mileage on the car we originally purchased and our attorney is handling the legalities of the dangerous car they knowingly sold to a family with two small children.
I find the way they treated the entire situation to be disgusting and to be this way towards a family that bought not one car, but 5 from them within a two day period. I hope to God that the other cars my family members are driving are not lemons like the one they sold us.

I had the best experience with this dealership, Our sales rep Jim Yarnell was the absolute best! He was patient and made me feel welcomed, no pressure, and very accommodating. After having a bad experience with another local dealership it was a breath of fresh air to work with Jim and the rest of the team. Dil, Stuart (finance guy) were a pleasure to work with. We left very satisfied and very secure knowing we made the decision with the purchase of our new vehicle. Thanks to the team! Look forward to recommending this dealership to our friends and family. :-)

Buyer beware. I thought I had found the truck of my dreams. It turned out to be a nightmare. I am a customer service 35 year veteran. This was without any doubt the single worse buying experience of my life. This dealership is within walking distance of my home. I had great expectations. They completely failed me. The owner publicly humiliated me right in the middle of the service area. I had just brought the truck home when I noticed that the spare was flat. I brought the truck back and asked for a replacement. I was told that I had been given plenty of time to inspect the truck before I bought it and that the tire was not part of the warranty. Also there was no tool to remove the tire and the owner told me he would not loan me a tire after I explained to him I needed one immediately as I planned on traveling the next day. He refused and told me to call a wrecker if I had a flat.

This is my first review on Unilocal.I had to let others know I had a great experience with the Hyman Brothers MItsubishi location on Midlothian. My salesman Jim Yarnell went out of his way to drive the car to my work for a test drive. My work limits time away, so Jim came to see me. What a great customer service. So I bought the car! The Manager, Dill worked with me to get my car in great shape and the finance manager Shawn was very helpful with my loan plans. Above all, I am another satisfied customer. Thank you Jim, Dill and Shawn.

I was so thrilled that Hyman Bros. brought Mitsubishi back to Richmond. LOVE my Outlander Sport.
Their service department is awesome! Lots of folks have asked me — what kind of car are you driving? Many comments on the smooth ride.

I made the mistake of going back to this place again, because I needed a car part and they are the closest dealer to me. I went in and had a nice gentleman help me, he may not have known much about the cars he deals with, but he was nice. I needed a part that connected to the frame, near the back of the car. So I showed the gentleman exactly what I needed. He calls the service tech and asks him if they have the part. The service tech ended up saying I needed a whole new exhaust system, for a part that was NEVER connected to the exhaust to begin with. I showed them exactly the part I needed, I included a picture to show anyone else reading this review:
I have never, ever dealt with such an incompetent dealership before. I do NOT recommend anyone going to them for ANY reason. I will also add the other problem I had with them a few weeks prior, a review I left on their main Hyman Bros’ Unilocal page:

I called the new Hyman Bros. Mitsubishi dealer that opened up on Midlothian Turnpike. I have a 2011 Lancer GTS that I wanted the CVT serviced, so I can have a record of the mileage for the county. When I called the service technician, the gentleman on the phone didn’t even know what the CVT was. Then when another guy called back to get me the quote, he asked what engine I had. I said it was a GTS. 2009 – 2011 GTS have 2.4L in them, 2008s do not. I said it was a 2011 GTS. Why would the technician not know what engine comes in the cars they sell themselves? I know all of Mitsubishi’s line up and engine size for almost all the cars, and I don’t work there.
Then I had told them I was providing the fluid. I was quoted $ 230! It has to be because I was a woman! I know exactly how to change the CVT. You drain it, then refill it. THAT’S IT! Why was I quoted that much!!! I’m not an idiot, I work on my own car. I am very disgusted by the lack of knowledge that staff showed as well as the man lying to me on the phone about what is involved in changing the CVT fluid.
I will drive the extra 30 minutes and take my car to the Pearson Kia dealer that the old Pearson Mitsubishi dealer recommended to me.
12. TRANSMISSION FLUID CVT (CHANGE FLUID)
Transmission fluid replacement
1.Remove the drain plug on the bottom of the transaxle case to drain the transmission fluid.
Draining amount: Approximately 6.0 dm3 (6.3 qt)
2.Install the drain plug with a new gasket to the transaxle case, and tighten it to the specified torque.
Tightening torque: 34 ± 2 Nm (25 ± 2 ft-​lb)
CAUTION
If the transaxle case becomes full before filling 6.0 dm3 (6.3 qt) of transmission fluid, stop filling the transmission fluid.
3.Fill in the new transmission fluid through the filler tube.
Filling amount: Approximately 6.0 dm3 (6.3 qt)
Transmission fluid: DIA QUEEN CVTF-​J1
4.Start up the engine and let it idle for 1 to 2 minutes.
5.Move the selector lever to every position, and then move it to the «P» or «N» range.
6.Stop the engine and perform the above steps 1 to 5 again.
7.Stop the engine, and discharge a small amount of transmission fluid to check for fouling. If fouling is found, repeat steps 1 to 5 until clean transmission fluid comes out.
8.Drive the vehicle until the transmission fluid is warmed up to the normal operating temperature 70 80 °C (158 176°F), and check the transmission fluid level. It must be within the «HOT» area on the dipstick.
NOTE:
The «COLD» level is for reference only. Use the «HOT» level as the criteria.
NOTE:
Use M.U.T.-III. to measure the transmission fluid temperature.
NOTE:
When a certain amount of time is required to warm up the transmission fluid to the normal operating temperature 70 80 °C (158 176°F), check the fluid level referring to the characteristics chart.
9.Adjust the transmission fluid level to the specified level. Refill the transmission fluid when the fluid level is low, and drain the transmission fluid through the drain plug when the fluid level is high.
10.Securely insert the dipstick into the filler tube.
11.TCM records the deterioration level of the transmission fluid. After replacing the transmission fluid wi
th new one, use M.U.T.-III to reset the deterioration level recorded in TCM
