Sad this place closed. I had recently discovered it and I was really enjoying their food. I hope they open up again someplace else.

This was one of my very favorite barbecue joints. The smoked sausage was out of this world. I went by there yesterday and the place was closed and the location was empty. I would appreciate any information that anyone has about the fate of Steer Hogs.

I was There the other day for the first time. Got the rib tip& hot link special. It was very good. If you can make a good tip the rest should be good. Going back next week to get the Brisket. The sides are also very good.

The smoked sausage is absolutely amazing. Perfectly smoked, great texture and flavor. The pork shoulder was decent. I felt like it could have had more smoke, especially compared to the smoke in the smoke sausage. Still, the pork was tender and juicy. The sauce was more on the sweet side but tasty. I didn’t have time to see if they had other sauces. As for the prices, Steer Hog offers great value. Tons of food at a very reasonable price. So if you go here, get the smoked sausage.

Everything we have ever tried is awesome here. Some of the best BBQ around! We catered a party for 90 people and they are awesome to work with. He helped me with making sure that we had enough and suggested items to compliment our main meat.

We were in the mood for BBQ on Friday and searched around a few Southside suburbs. Drove by Rib Brothers but didn’t stop because they have no seats… dropped in at Steer Hogs and were pleasantly surprised. This was good BBQ located in a small strip mall. This BBQ house is primarily takeout but they do have three tables with four chairs each… so they can seat a dozen. Even had a TV up on the wall. The place was very clean… floor, back room, and kitchen. Two guys run the place… one in back doing the cooking and plating, and one in front running the cash register and either giving you your takeout or bringing the food to the table. Food comes to the table in a square tin… sort of reminiscent of the pie tins at Russell’s BBQ in Elmwood Park on the Northside. It seems to work fine. I had the brisket platter — a nice mound of brisket on top of a fresh piece of sopping bread, and two sides… I had the sweet potato fries(superb, but one order is enough for two peeps) and the mac and cheese(very nice, if only just warm). Since I am on a brisket journey I was especially interested to try theirs and it was very nice… tender with just enough fat to keep everything moist, nice thickness in the sliced pieces, excellent BBQ sauce with a touch of heat and a touch of sweet on top of everything. The serving size was also just right so you don’t feel like heaving as your leaving. My partner had the pulled pork on top of a half order of smoked link all nestled in an Italian roll… a nice combo. She had the baked beans and they were delish. This little place is very easy to miss as the strip mall is sort of set back from the street. It is located just east of Cicero Avenue on 147th Street. It is worth the effort finding it. Good stuff. And when you are done with the BBQ… go a few storefronts down to Two Sisters custard for dessert… you won’t be sorry.

You can smell the great aroma from the charcoal and food being grilled in the parking lot and that is the main reason we wanted to try this place out. Well, I wish it tasted as good as it smelled. Don’t get me wrong the food wasn’t horrible and I would go back if I was in the area but I wasn’t smacking me lips saying mmmmmmm this is so good I would travel back from my side of town to go here. The rib tips were tender but not a lot of flavor. The bbq sauce was awesome I could have bought a bottle of that and been happy. The Brisket was the best thing we had and it came on top of a burger. The burger was kind of dry and I’m not sure if it was a frozen burger patty but it didn’t taste like a fresh %100 ground beef burger… I could be wrong! The Brisket was the star of the burger for sure. I love fries but these were kinda meh… you know like some grocery store brand fries that never seem to cook right. The baked beans and the spicy green beans very very tasty. My daughter had the hot link she said it was good and my cousin devoured her hot dog. Now, my cousin had ordered sweet potato fries but she received the regular fries she wasn’t happy about it and I’m not sure what happened but she just kept her regular fries and ended up throwing them away. All in all this is an ok spot to go too. Enjoy!!!

Great good, great portions, great prices! The rib tips were outstanding. Mac & Cheese, coleslaw, and baked beans were spot on. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for great BBQ in the south burbs.

Great smoked barbeque joint on the Southside. Small inside, only three tables and one outside. More geared for take-out as opposed to group gathering. Everything I’ve tried has been great… pulled pork, pulled chicken, hot links, half chickens… all great. Perfect smoke rings and great BBQ sauce to boot. Sides are great and smoked as well; green beans, mac n cheese, potatoes, Cole slaw… all solid. Good customer service and quick ticket times round out the experience. If they only had a bathroom, some more space, and maybe a liquor license, it would be top of the list in the area; a strong competitor to the local fav Hog Wild. I stop here once a week, and will continue to experience their killer menu. Good times indeed!

I discovered another delicious bbq joint in the area near my national guard unit. This place has excellent bbq with plenty of options and the portions are huge for the price. i usually go to hog wild when im in the area but decided to give this place a try and im very glad i did. i had the pulled pork and smoked sausage combo with green beans and potato salad for sides. The bbq sauce was perfectly tangy and all the meats were super juicy. Both sides were generously portioned and good but the green beans were by far the winner of the two as they were super spicy and flavorful. Also, to top everything off the cashier was cute and talkative which i always def appreciate!

Go for the platter! You will receive a large portion of tender, flavorful meat. Great selection and quality of sides. The only thing that would improve the meal would be a few more BBQ sauce offerings. It’s more of a take out location so be prepared to get your food to-go.

First off — I want to thank Michael C. for taking so many pictures and checking in so many times. This kept Steer Hogs on my radar. My son and I stopped in after his baseball game. Steer hogs is tucked away in a strip mall just east of 147th and Cicero. The minute you walk in the smell of bbq hits you in the mouth. I tried the brisket plate with the sides of potato salad and cole slaw, hot link and rib tips. My son had the burger and fries. All portions were large and we took a lot of it home for the rest of the familia to try. The brisket was moist(I love that word) and flavorful. The sides were good but the potato salad was top notch. The hot link was good but I like my link a little more spicy. The rib tips were out of this world. Huge smoke flavor. My son liked his burger and fries. The fries are cooked right here. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The family really liked the bbq when we got home. Mark the owner and staff were very helpful in picking out the dishes. We cant wait to go back.

The food was delish. The people? Super friendly. The only drawback? No public restrooms. I had the pulled pork with sweet potato fries and cole slaw. The pork was sweet and there was so much of it. The sweet potato fries were easily the best I’ve ever had. It came with a delicious corn muffin that was sweet and tasty. The cole slaw was your generic cole slaw, but I wasn’t there for that. I took half my dinner home and was very well fed on half of it! The place is small and they said they’re thinking of expanding. They should. They also said they are thinking of adding a bathroom.(Please?!) The owner said there are discussions of adding beer and wine to the menu. All of these will make this place even better, but it was delicious and affordable. Worth the 15 minute drive for sure!

Great smoked meats on 147th! Stumbled upon this place via these great Unilocal reviews when Hog Wild closed early at 8PM. The owner was managing the front counter and was a really personable and hospitable host. Even gave my GF and I a free side of fried okra when we ordered to platters to go which was quite delicious. The platters were completely enormous for merely $ 8. I got the pulled pork which was perfectly smoked. You could tell as the strands near the tip of the shoulder were crustily seasoned well with deep pink smoke rings. My GF being a typical non-red meat eater got the pulled chicken which was surprisingly just as tasty. Sides… Mac ‘N Cheese, Green Beans, ColeSlaw, and Baked Beans were executed to perfection. The only drawback here is their beverage choices. They only have canned soda drinks which is quite limited. I wish they made their own iced tea(staple in any southern BBQ joint) or even sold bottled water. Even so I would readily give them my business to tickle my tastebuds any time.

Great BBQ and sides… I go there a couple times a week and have tried half the menu. I haven’t been disappointed yet. I don’t see how anyone wouldn’t enjoy the food here. I’ve recommended SteerHogs to three of my neighbors and they also love the food here.

Today was bitter cold and neither myself or my daughters felt up to cooking so we purchased take out from this establishment tonight for the family. We divided three dinner plates between four adults(rib tips, beef brisket and smoked chicken) and still had food left over. We were able to try all six sides and I thought they were delicious. Although the fries(regular and sweet potato) were generic and similar to most fast food restaurants, the were cooked perfectly. I did not try the Spicy Garlic Green Beans, but my husband said they were good but very spicy. The Corn Bread Muffins were delectable and they had a fluffy texture and sweet flavor. Will defiantly return to eat again here, would consider them for catering my next party as well.

No doubt, I’m a fan. Good sized menu and perfect for carry out. I’ve gotten a chance to sample a bit of everything now it seems and have been happy. A storefront operation, you can smell the smoke in the parking lot. Always a good sign! The meat doesn’t disappoint and neither do the sides — the green beans with sausage are a fav. I like that they have wraps and salads too. And their specials — a BBQ Cuban? — are always a good choice. Dinners come with a side and are a great value. I’ve never been able to finish, which is perfect for me… who doesn’t like BBQ leftovers for lunch?!

There is finally an option for real BBQ in the area! That’s right, Hog Wild may have great«grilled» options, but their BBQ sucks! I came here based on the numerous 5-star reviews by people that actually have more than one review. I didn’t want to get a brisket sandwich in case their brisket was the pre-packaged garbage variety Hog Wild reheats, so I went with a cheeseburger topped with brisket. I am pleased to report that the employee verified that they smoke everything on their menu in house! The sauce is good, probably homemade, but would be better if it had some heat. The brisket was melt-in-your-mouth tender, juicy, and had a deep smoke ring. The burger had deep black grill marks and tasted like it was made from fresh beef. The toppings were fresh and the sides were above average, but nothing special. As much as I liked the burger, next time I will be getting the brisket sandwich. The only better brisket is the one that comes off of my smoker, and since I don’t do that too often, I’ll be back.

Great food, my pulled pork was excellent, my daughter loved the beef brisket. I’ve had the bbq chicken several times it is the bomb. Ribs are good, go with the baby back ones over the steer, they are more tender and fall off the bone… this is the go to bbq place in the area.

I work in the area a few days a week so when a new food place opens up its big news. Yes, its a dull life but I certainly do eat well. Well, this is a pork place. Midlothianites sure are fortunate to have Hog Wild and now this place. They should change the name to Porkothian. Damn, am I clever. This is more of a carryout place, but they do have two tables inside and two tables outside. I was in a hurry so I didn’t get the ribs but instead got the pulled pork sandwich. And, as I slather sauce onto my keyboard, I will report back that its a very good sandwich — nice smoky meat, flavorful sauce on a nice bun. The sandwich came with a side. Be forewarned that the sides are generous so one side is enough. The cole slaw hit the spot as a nice contrast to the sandwich. I will be back and report on the ribs. The location is a non-descript strip mall near Cicero and 147th. You can make an evening out of it. The vodka distillery and tasting room is next door and then for desert there’s a frozen custard place a few doors down.
