The best sushi outside of the Northside/China Town. I really enjoy the dragon roll, eel and spicy tuna. I have also had the miso soup and I loved it and their drinks are great. They have specials a few times a week. Totally worth a try!

Great local sushi spot. After many trips, we have yet to experience anything but prompt and friendly service. The menu has a lot of traditional options. In addition to good rolls, try the spicy wings or mussels.

Plenty of rolls to choose from and the happy hour menu is definitely worth it! The plum wine goes well with every dinner!

WORST sushi I have ever had in my life! We ordered soft crab roll, spicy scallop roll, Los Vegas, and yellow tail roll, and they all looked and tastes exactly the same, like dried up and expired food that had been in the fridge for ages! Then when we confronted the manager about it, she was being super rude and basically told us there’s nothing they can do about this! Do yourself a favor, DONOTGOTHERE!(Of course if you want food poisoning, go right ahead :))

The food here is so so good. It’s hard to find a good sushi place, and I’m glad this one is so close to my house. The staff are extremely friendly and the food is delicious. I can’t say one bad thing about this place.

So disappointed this evening. The waitress behaved like she was sleep walking. She never asked us if we wanted a salad. We had to ask her. Brought the rolls out and they were not separated. It was a big mess of food. We still had not received plates. We asked for them and she brought us each a red flat tray used for soy. Still no plates. I walked over and asked her for plates and she told me to wait. Someone else then got them and brought them over. Horrible service. Had to ask for the check. Couldn’t wait to get out of there. The service used to be good but not anymore. It took a long time to receive the salads and when she walked out with our food she brought it to another table. Never going back and will not recommend this place to anyone.

I’m not sure why I don’t come here more often because it’s always a great experience. The food is always amazingly delicious and it always comes out within 5 minutes of ordering. Everything is reasonably priced even when it’s not happy hour, when it is happy hour, it’s a great price! All the staff is very friendly and make you feel comfortable. The atmosphere inside is very home-like. It’s a quiet environment, with low lighting, so it’s possible to have a conversation. I’m going to start coming here much more often because it’s so worth it!

A favorite of locals. But for those that venture upon it having had better sushi elsewhere, well. you may not love it. The restaurant as a whole, hinders its existence and abilities. You’d have to see the place to know what I’m saying.(If you’ve watched any restaurant fixer-upper-program… It’s not a sushi bar, its a bar that serves sushi. The restaurant has an identity crises which is blatantly obvious and ownership has done nothing to change that perception. Like most Korean bars, its about the booze and the attitudes of the ahjoomah’s(mature ladies) that tend bar. Speaking of Korean they have a few tables which are set up for Kalbi but I don’t remember seeing any offering of kalbi(Korean BBQ) on the menu except for an appetizer portion which is prepared in the kitchen.(Seriously, if Korean kalbi(BBQ) is not offered then why keep the grills ??)(Same question goes for the karaōke. They have ancient tape decks in plain sight but they no longer offer karaōke nights). Food wise, the sushi is decent. Sushi aficionados probably wouldn’t agree. And those that dig sushi which is deep fried and topped with sauces, would find this agreeable.

I lived in Japan for 2 years and had a hard time finding sushi in the u.s. that was as fresh and tasty until I came to sakebob. By far the best sushi I’ve had since returning to the states. Delicious food, fair prices, excellent staff.

The sushi is delicious here. My first time coming here today with friends and family. The prices are very reasonable. I will have to say the place is not very well kept and the service is not to great. Sorry. But I will keep coming back for the food.

I was really not a fan of sushi until I tried it. This place is amazing. The cooks are fast and the waitresses are attentive. The sushi is amazing and Tuesdays and Thursdays they have happy hour. 2 rolls for the price of 1.

Come here for the happy hour!!! I come here very often and it’s a hometown favorite of mine. There is no better deal for sushi out there. The service is okay and the atmosphere is pretty dingy, not gonna lie. BUT you cannot beat the prices. 2 rolls for $ 7 every Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday is the reason why this place is a gem. A rough gem, maybe, but a great deal nonetheless. I usually get the spicy tuna, Las Vegas Roll, or the spicy salmon. And you get a bowl of miso soup with your sushi!!! It’s only $ 7 so it’s worth a shot.

The only thing I can comment on is the Tofu soup. I love it! I was introduced to Korean food while living in California and now I am hooked. I was so happy to find a place that makes excellent tofu soup.

My wife and I skipped our favorite sushi stop for Sakebob’s as it was on our way to another stop and we’re glad we did. This is a no frills place in terms of the location and ambiance, but we loved the simple and casual atmosphere. It was about half full on a Friday night and were sat at the full bar and started our experience with a generously sized glass of plum wine, edemame and miso soup. The beans weren’t the best we’d had but were very good and the soup was sans croûton, but also very good. We then ordered sushi from their Happy Hour menu that has a small assortment of 2 rolls for $ 7 — an assortment of California roll and tempura variants. The sushi chefs were about 3 feet away from our seats and it only took about 15 minutes for our rolls to arrive. They tasted fresh and the presentation was great. We quickly decided that the quality of the sushi was as good or better than what we’d become accustomed to elsewhere. The bartender/server was very attentive, friendly and prompt to care for our needs while not interrupting our conversation. We also found the neighborhood bar atmosphere comfortable if not endearing. We will definitely return.

Where do I start with this place? Disclaimer, my fiancé and I use to enjoy and often take advantage of the happy hour offerings on Thursday nights and go for for what it was; good value but average maki rolls. However, during our last 3 visits and poor dining experiences have changed my feelings and tune about this place. It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s on the brink of shutting it’s doors soon. Horrible service and food preparations have significantly taken a dive for the worst and in a faster downward spiral than Nine Inch Nails last album from the 90’s. The last straw that killed the cow was in our recent Saturday night visit that was so terrible of an experience we literally walked out after ordering our drinks. Here’s how it all went down in what ended as our last visit. At entering the restaurant there was only 2 other couples sitting on the tables and a few patrons hanging at the bar. The depressing atmosphere looked like something out of a Quentin Tarantino film scene; dark, dingy and no substance. We sat ourselves and didn’t see a waitress in sight outside of the bartender. Keep in mind this is around 7:30pm on a Saturday evening when 20 minutes later we finally got some acknowledgment by the bartender by shouting out loud from across the bar«I will be there in a minute». Upon her arrival to our table she threw the menus across the table, looked at us and said in a «I hate my job» tone — What to do you want to drink? No apologies, no explanation, no nothing but a big glass of my daddy never gave me a hug attitude. We were so turned off by this and based on the previous dining experiences, we grabbed our jackets and walked out, when the owner appeared out of no where and simply shouted«Thank you come again» WTF? Clueless, I don’t think she had any idea what just unfolded. When we came here it wasn’t for the atmosphere but good value in what was ok at best Sashmi/Sushi/Roll offerings on a pinch. Instead Sakebob has become a sad and desperate looking restaurant that would qualify for Robert Irvine’s Restaurant Impossible show, however in this case it may actually be the first restaurant in the shows history where Robert fails to turn things around. The interior is so outdated and uninviting that makes other Asian restaurants in decors seem like the Taj Majal. From the ugly banquet chairs, poor lighting, and plastic cups where they serve the water and tabletop made of cheap wood veneer. The outside is even worse as it always appears closed due to windows been covered and many times have driven by thinking they are closed or went out of business. Only way to know it’s open is by the poor neon«open» signage. Sakebob is like the Denny’s of Sushi, no one ever says«Let’s go to Sakebob’s for sushi» but rather you just end up there by accident. Go to the new local Asian restaurant Yucca in Orland Park instead and check for yourself what a friendly, inviting and welcoming staff along with a vibrant and energetic atmosphere should be like. Stay away from Sakebok like the plague or better yet pre-made gas station maki rolls are probably better suited than this restaurant offers by now. I am sure it won’t be to long when Unilocal updates this page with the word CLOSED next to BBQ Sakebob.

Where do we start. I ordered their BBQ spare ribs which comes with fried rice, I’m very strict Paleo so I can’t have the rice I asked them to substitute the rice for stir fried veggies(which is on the menu) and they said no. Flat out no, no explanation. The ribs themselves were decent but a very small portion my friend got a sushi roll and it was crap. The rice was completely over cooked, too much cream cheese. Our drinks were ok though.

Small rolls… small pieces… Went here for the happy hour as I was in Orland Park and gf and I always wanted to check out Sakebob for happy hour. I wish I took a picture, but the rolls were like half rolls cut into six pieces. So really, the 2 rolls for $ 7 dollar deal is like a $ 7 normal roll elsewhere. Service was fine, but we left after ordering our four rolls as this was not a special deal for happy hour and the sushi itself was sub-par.

Was in the area and decided to try different items than usual. Ordered a Honey Roll and Beef Teriyaki. I’m not a fan of Miso soup, so I told the hostess she could keep it. The dining area was pretty full this evening… but since it was just me, I got immediate seating at the bar. The noise level was pretty tame. People celebrated birthdays, and seemed to be enjoying each other’s company. No complaints about the food or service were heard while I was here. The beef teriyaki arrived first, so, since I wanted to shake up the routine anyway, I ate it first. I couldn’t find fault with it — the beef was tender, juicy, and just a hint of charbroiled flavor. The Honey Roll arrived shortly after I started eating the teriyaki. It was very complex. All the flavors popped out well. Nothing to complain about. Overall, the change in routine, and sampling of different menu items was a refreshing change. Very glad I stopped by.

OK… A New Found Glory I *Yelped* «bbq» and this place popped up as second closest… the closest was Famous Dave’s but, Barbecue Sakebob seemed way more interesting. Right as I walked in I did a double take on the«People Love Us On Unilocal» sticker. I don’t think I’ve seen one in real life before… coolness. Pic– . Here’s the skinny: Décor — some people don’t like it… I’m meh… about it too. The Cucumber Salad — Sweet Baby Jesus… Loved it! Lunch Box Specials — cheap and plenty of food. Shochu Martini — Ermagerd — must try. Here’s the fat: OK, so the décor is a bit«cheap» or whatever a previous reviewer said… I’m good with it. Though«Visual Appeal» has a lot to do with the atmosphere of a place I still believe it’s the crowd, the employees and the general warmth(not temperature) of a place. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted very nicely, asked if it was my first time yada, yada, yada… sat down(2:15 ish) and immediately was lost. My server was more than happy to point out what’s they’re specialty and what people order the most, she made it real easy for me — I liked that. First thing I went for because it looked awesome on the menu was the Cucumber Salad. I thought it was pretty darn perfect, little bit of crab, lots of fresh cucumber, sesame seeds(I think) in a sauce that was sweet and slightly sour. Not like Sweet and Sour sauce, something all together different. I’d recommend it, especially for the price — $ 4.95 Picture — The Chicken Lunchbox Special is ridiculous, for $ 7.95 you get Miso Soup, White Rice, 4 California Rolls, some Tempura, a Green Salad(good freaking dressing) and a small portion of Teriyaki Chicken. Picture– Miso soup — came out super hot, was very tasty and I liked the little mini tofu cubes… cute. The salad that comes with the Lunchbox was simple, nothing special but, it was fresh and the dressing was great. They’ve got the Chicken to Rice ratio down pretty good. Chicken was nice and tender, good flavor and sauce, the rice was… well, rice. Cali. rolls I’m not a big sushi buff so I can’t really judge these too much but, I liked ‘em they were pretty darn good. I’m not a fan of the Tempura, it was nice and crispy but, to me something was missing… can’t put my finger on it though. Ahhh… the Shochu Martini… This thing is sofa king light, citrusy and refreshing, it’s a serious competitor for«Best Drink I Ever Had» top 5 for sure. Picture — Barbeque Sakebob is a place that’d I’m coming back to, at least for the lunch specials. The whole meal I had today was $ 20.64 plus tip… if you’re wondering pricing. SYOY

I wanted to love you, Sakebob… I truly did. I was willing to overlook your sign that looks like it was scrawled on a Post-it™. Never mind that your décor is a cornucopia of curbside-castaways. It was supposed to be a gastronomic affair. I was bright-eyed and brimming with anticipation as I eased myself into your banquet chair, yet you served up soggy sushi swimming in a sea of sauce and under-toasted panko. I yearned for your salad to cleanse my palate… Alas, my cucumbers floated atop a puddle of stringy saltiness. Oh, give me a great dive any day, but dayum, if you’re gonna be a dive at least be stellar! You failed me and for that I just cannot forgive you; Five specialty dishes, each more disappointing than the next. So glad you spared me of loud crowds and blaring tunes, but ya left me unsatisfied with my sushi fantasies as empty as my wallet. I…I don’t even know if you have sake, Bob. P. S. Your waitress was excellent. The stars are hers. xoxox
