This curry will kick your ass, and your cousin’s ass, as well as the ass of your cousin’s friend and their hairdresser. I love it so much it’s hard to express. Curry Pot Pie, level 2 out of 10, green with chicken, and I’m pretty much harfing up a lung. Me — she who can eat fire! In combination with the temperature heat that never ever ever dies(from being baked and served in a boiling lava-hot stone bowl), the spice of the curry lingers longer and burns your freaking face off. Yah, when Annie tells you that her curry is not run of the mill, if you value your internal organs(and those of the aforementioned), believe her. Most Caucasians are going to order her curry at a 0. Hubby orders level 1, and struggles. Appetizers here are awesome too — my favorites are definitely the Crispy Noodle Wraps(O. M. G.) and the Fresh Rolls. Ordering both is hard to resist. That’s a meal in itself. There are no small portions here. I’ve yet to try breakfast but it’s nearing the top of my list. Quickly. I always love to gaze at the long list of teas and wonder which to try next. They’re all good so far. The several times we’ve been here, the service is always stellar. So gracious and accommodating. If you’re lucky enough to get to interact with Annie, the owner, do it. She’ll always take time to teach you about her food. Oh, and for the people who bag on Chabaar for various reasons like the lack of ambience, or the lingering stale cigarette smell, the bad décor, or even the location… just don’t come back. Leave the tables for those of us who appreciate great food vs. pretty much anything else.

11⁄10. Some of the best Thai food I’ve ever had, with amazing heat levels(6⁄10 is far and away the hottest thing I’ve ever eaten, and expect it will remain so until I get a 7). The staff are friendly, beer selection is good, and the tofu is excellent.

Great Thai food, with options for those crazy people that don’t like Thai. If you’re a spice lover, this spot is where it’s at. Very reasonably priced beer and wine as well.

I loved Chabaar until tonight. Now the same server in the past that could tell what is vegan and what is not just tells me «I don’t know.» We got our appetizers with our meal 45 mins after ordering and the manager told us that a big party ordered right after us. He didn’t seem to care and neither did the server. They never came back and checked on us after serving our meal. We had to bitch and moan to get our bill discounted. I will probably never go back!

The food here is always amazing. Service has always been great, and the restaurant is beautiful. I’m a big fan of their curries too, especially the mango! Be mindful of the spice level though, what you think is spicy doesn’t compare to what their levels are. I’d like to think of myself as a spice connoisseur, and I go with a 1.(I also value my digestive system.) Great place to come for brunch. I love that they have your everyday fare, but still stay true to their roots with their offering of Thai breakfasts. Be adventurous and try their Thai omelet!

Nice set-up and décor. Cute servers. I came in with my dad and they IDd him. Funny thing is I am 29. We had a couple of Thai dishes and they were good. If I lived in Utah I’d come back :)

I’ve been here twice and every time the service is so awful we got here at seven thirty it’s now nine and they still haven’t brought out the rest of our order, THEYCLOSEATNINE! What is really going on, can’t get water refilled no one even comes and checks on us, the food is good but not that good where I’d wait two hours to eat! May not come back, service is pertinent in restaurants!

I love thai food. A little too much. The frequency at which I eat thai food surprises most people. I was sad that I was limited to thai food for two meals a day.(Because my family was giving me weird looks when I ate pad thai for breakfast.) Until one of my friends introduced me to thai breakfast. THAIBREAKFAST? What is that, you say. I’m glad you asked, my friend. It is the most delicious discovery I have made in the recent past. Imagine thai food, but somewhat modified to be breakfast-appropriate. Their Vegan Thai Omelette was INCREDIBLE. The Joke Moo Sup is unlike anything else I’ve had(j/k, it’s like congee but much much better). The Garden Pile High was like a thai hash. So so so so so good.(Dammit, I’m hungry again thinking of Chabaar’s thai breakfast. I just finished lunch like an hour ago.) Breakfast not your thing? No problemo. Their green curry is THEBESTGREENCURRY I HAVEEVERHAD. No joke.(Well except Joke Moo Sup. j/k) The curry potpie was delicious and innovative. It combines two of my favorite things — thai food and pot pies. Their noodles are on point(I’ve tried most of their noodles and ALL of them are amazing). If you like spicy, they can definitely do spicy. In fact, be careful. I asked for 2.5 or 3 for certain foods. I can handle ghost pepper sauce on some things, but the level 3 was too much. Stick to 2 or below for your first visit. And when you’re back(which you will be), you can up the spice level. Go here. You will NOT regret it.

A very helpful girl assisted me in selecting a few to go items explaining that the food here is «different» than Tea Rose — not as sweet. I asked her to make it «tea Rose» style — no problem. Nice sized place.

We went there again about a year later since it was so close to home. The service was much better and the food was great! It turned into one of our favorite spots before leaving SLC.

After seeing all the positive reviews, we wanted to give this one a try. Here are my ratings and explanations: Service: 1 Food: 2 It took over 20 minutes for someone to bring the water and take the order — And no it wasn’t a busy hour, barely 50−60% of their capacity. When the appetizers arrived, they didn’t bring any napkins. Throughout the meal no one came to refill the waters or ask if we needed anything else. We saw customer wait and leave since no one came to take their order. Having said that, all the servers were very polite. As far as the food itself is concerned we were not impressed. The flavors were flat and the portions very small… definitely not in the league of Chanon thai, Swadee or Thaisam. Not going back for sure.

I love this place. Their spice level though is very hot. The first time I tried the pineapple curry with tofu as a 1(out of 10) to go. It had a little bite but not too hot; I added some sriracha to it for a little extra bite. The second time I tried with pananag curry with tofu at a 2; and it was very hot. But I cooled it down with a bit of their Thai tea ice cream every few bites.

I give 5 star to their honest waitress. My mom forget to her cellphone after dinner(again). The young girl — I don’t remember her name — found that and run out in freezing temperature to give the cell phone back to us. We really appreciate that because my mom is going to take a flight next day, that really saves us from a lot of trouble.

Fantastic atmosphere! Came with extended family for the first time and am very impressed. We had yellow chicken curry, glass salad and pad see ew. Everything was delicious, we also tried the home made ice cream and was not disappointed! The only disappointment was the power aide drink which seemed off. All in all I would highly recommend !!

Firstly, may I suggest getting yourself and your friends into this place and then worry about reading the rest of the reviews. I have eaten here since this place opened. Their Thai food is the best, but there’s so much more going on. They have a variety of cookies, unique ice cream flavors and kombucha on tap — all made in house. Anyone can find many things they like here. Vegans, vegetarians, omnivores, even those who don’t care for Thai cuisine can be seen enjoying something awesome. My favorites are crepes, waffles, grilled cheese avocado and pear, red curry, and salmon capers w/lemon sauce, Thai basil.

Food is awesome, but I had the strangest experience with the wait staff. I went to Chabaar by myself. The waiter(whose first language didn’t seem to be English) asked how many and I told him, «It’s just me.» He nodded and took me to a table and dropped off three waters and three menus. I told him again I wasn’t expecting anyone else and he smiled, bowed, and nodded. When he came back to take my order, I told him I wanted hash browns and phở. I know, weird. He thought so too, and chuckled. He brought me three bowls of phở and a plate of hash browns. Three bowls! After I finished my soup(spectacular, by the way) he came and asked if the rest of my party is coming? I told him again that I was having breakfast alone. He kind of laughed and took away the other bowls. They only charged me for the one bowl of phở and the browns. Super cool place. Go have some awesome phở and maybe an adventure beyond the language barrier.

Really really spicy! The tags on Unilocal is a little misleading about ‘breakfast’ ‘brunch’. I thought that’s what they good at. They have a huge dinner menu. Food portion is big! The taste is very yummy and authentic. Service was great as well.

Tried a few Thai places around SLC while on a business trip, and this by far was the best. The service was excellent and the food was quite tasty. I like spicy food, and can handle a decent amount of heat. I got the Pad Thai, thought I’d be safe at a level 3, but the waitress recommended I do a level 2. She was spot on, just enough heat that it didn’t over power the flavor of the dish. The levels go up to 9, if 2 was hot I can’t imagine what 9 is!

My friend and I were wandering in the mall and our stomachs started making noises. Not sure what to eat so we Unilocaled, and found both of us ended up checking on Thai food. We finally chose this one because it was close to us and have a pretty good rating. We arrived at around almost 3pm. As you can imagine, there were not a lot of people in there, only 3 tables full. The place was pretty dim even the sun was shining brightly outside. The service was fast and nice. I ordered Drunken Noodles with Fried Eggs though I was there for tea time, it seemed right at the moment, so don’t judge! You have to request for the eggs since it is not originally come with the noodles. I was confused at first because I saw people having eggs on their noodles on Unilocal’s photos, but when I looked at the menu, I couldn’t find the word«eggs» written on it, so I asked our server and she told me that they only made that on request. So, I requested. The noodles itself was great, but with the eggs, it was even better. I just hope it wasn’t that oily though. The bottom part of my dish was so oily it scared me that I ended up not finishing the whole dish(though I wanted to so badly). My friend got himself a huge bowl of Ginger Noodles. I tried and it was great too. However, the flavor of the soup was so strong that I made an ugly face after trying it, you know, the face that people made after eating lemon. The strong flavor only lasted for about 2 sec, after that it was all good. This restaurant is definitely going to be on my Thai/Asian restaurant list now. I will be coming back to try their famous curry potpie. Till next time, Chabaar!

Thai cuisine is amongst our favorites, when good. We have eaten at many Thai restaurants and This has become our favorite. I do not like extremely spicy or.“hot” food. Our first dish of Tom Kha Gai, chicken coconut soup, was«1» spicy. The spice prevented me from tasting & enjoying the coconut flavor. Since, we have ordered it with«0» spice. This is one of our favorite dishes. We always enjoy Massaman curry, which also contains coconut milk. I do not enjoy peanuts, so I have not enjoyed Pad Thai in most Thai restaurants. However, the Pad Thai here is delicious. If we are with a larger group, we like to add a stir fry dish, usually Sweet Basil with steak. Their«duck» dishes have also been exceptional. Of course, we always finish our meal with Mango and Sticky Rice. We are still working through their extensive menu. We have not ordered anything we have not enjoyed!

The little, and slightly more expensive sister of Tea Rose. The plus to these guys is that they are open on days that Tea Rose isn’t. The food is good, no complaints, and the service is always friendly. Personally, I prefer Tea Rose, as several others have mentioned, but if this location is more convenient, or Tea Rose isn’t open, then this is a great little spot for some Thai food. My only complaint was that the sticky rice was a little crunchy and dry. This may have been just a bad batch and not a habitual thing, so I’m for sure going to order it again.

Been here multiple times and finally decided to write a review. Got standard appetizer and 2 entrees. 1. Fried Tofu(3.5÷5) — was really hungry so wanted something fast but not too filling, and certainly did the job. not particularly memorable but tasted great 2. Honey Duck(4.5÷5) — pan fried duck breast with assorted vegetables. the meat was very tender and flavorful, just a great dish that blended well. 3. Curry Pot Pie(Massaman + Chicken)(4⁄5) — kind of their signature dish, doesn’t look too intimidating at first but it’s really a lot more than we thought. the bread covering is perfectly delicate, soft, but stable at the same time. there is also rice at the bottom and in the middle is the chicken, onions, and other standards. got spice level of 1, wish we got level 2. It’s been said many times and probably worth mentioning again that when ordering dishes, the spice level ranges from 0 to 10 but in reality it should range from 0 to 3. I would like to think that I can definitely take a lot of heat, but when I ordered 3 that was definitely too much. I guess the reason is because the difference between levels is just the amount of chili powder so it felt a little artificial in terms of the heat. Out of the many Thai restaurants in the area, Chabaar is the place to go to for something a little more upscale /nice meal. I’ve always left satisfied, but never really been blown away either. Definitely get their specialty dishes that other Thai restaurants don’t usually offer and try them for yourself!

Time for an update on Chabaar, it had been many years since I first visited them. Not much had changed. The curry pot pie looked more puffy than when I first started visiting them few years back, the inside tasted about the same. Curry had been on the sweet side without additional request for spiciness, and I would recommend a level 4 for a kick… probably 2.5 for the average bears. A good discovery was Fried Catfish Salad and adding fried eggs to Drunken Noodles. Both were awesome dishes. I also tried the Honey Duck, it was ok, I wish the fat was reduced more on the pan. The nice additional of homemade Ice Cream had been great, Thai Tea and Orange Lavender had the most interesting flavor in them. Coffee had a rather strong taste and you will like it if you are into dark roast. Overall, this place is still one of the favorite Thai places in Utah. Although flavor was not the best in town, still above many, they definitely had excellent services breaking away from the typical Asian restaurant stereotype.
