I am torn between writing this review and not. I am the producer for one of the groups who performs here, but not all of them and technically I do not work here. So I guess I am ok. But full disclosure, I do 2 shows here a year with the Midvale Arts Council. Midvale Performing Arts Center houses the Midvale Arts Council, the Community Building Community program(a Midvale Community outreach program), Pinnacle Acting Company, and for the time being West Jordan Arts Council as well. The theater here is pretty great. It is intimate enough that unless the production is a musical the performers do not need mics. Max seating is like 180. Each group is different and this is not a review of the shows anyway. The theater seats do need to be replaced with new ones, so at that point I would give this place that last star. The building is the old Midvale City Hall. The building is beautiful, the stage is high, but there is plenty of room for most theatrical productions and concerts. Midvale City is still working on upgrading the lights, sound, and seating to make the theater extraordinary. I really like this place, but then I am a theater geek and this is my home away from home during a show.

Évaluation du lieu : 4 Midvale, UT
Plenty of bonus points going out to the Midvale Performing Arts Center for being one of Utah’s most pronounced remaining examples of Art Deco architecture. There was much discussion some years ago about what to do with the building(it used to be City Hall, then was somewhat shuttered) and thanks to a large grant was turned into a theatre and offices. As a theater, it’s quite adequate. The chairs were brought from a local high school auditorium that was being remodeled, so the orange and brown are not so sexy, but are not meant to be permanent. There are ongoing projects like upgrades to the sound system, and they certainly need to keep working on the lighting system. It’s better than it was when the building was first re-purposed, but they’re still working hard on funding a more robust setup. I’ve seen many shows, concerts, and other events here and it suits the purpose perfectly. You’re apt to find the mayor in the audience some nights; it’s just a community theater. While I’m not in love with the setup of the stage(it’s not bad from the back, but starts to feel kind of high the further towards the front you sit) it’s just great to have little places like this available to community groups. You can rent the theater for a modest fee, or see what shows are running there. Typically you will find community theater productions by The Midvale Arts Council, or shows produced by Pinnacle Acting Group, who do some lesser-known shows with some talented actors. Parking is limited, so you may have to park a block down at the new city hall and hoof it. Grab some food from the Taco street vendor before, and hit up Mexican food Leatherby’s afterward. Lovely evening.
