Where customer service is job none. A friend and I stopped by Quirk on our way home after many hours of driving. So close to Lexington, yet dragging, I suggested we swing by Quirk in Midway to fill up on coffee and make our way home. Go little guy! Down with Starbucks, etc. We went inside and a waiter offered to seat us. We told him we were just after some coffees for the road. He asked our cream and sugar preferences. My pal opted in and I asked for black. We were given two to-go cups filled a hare over halfway. Grand total? $ 4. Look, I don’t mind paying $ 2 for a cup of coffee, and from what I understand, Quirk is serving up a decent cup(though I felt underwhelmed by my few sips). But the guy creamed the coffee for my friend and didn’t give him a pitcher with more cream(I guess he’s psychic and knows exactly how much cream a customer wants?) so it’s not like he was leaving us room to add any more. And I had mine black, so what up? He also gave us a platter of sugar packets but no spoons or swizzle sticks to incorporate said sugar. We weren’t in a hurry, if it was the bottom of the pot and he was just giving us what he had, we would have gladly waited for more. Also, there were like two tables in the whole restaurant, so it’s not like he was slammed and too in the weeds to give us any attention. How much attention does it take to fill up two freakin’ coffee cups and pass over some cream and sugar? Geeze. I just don’t get how a server could literally say, «Meh, I’m just gonna fill this half way.» What the crap? We were both so aghast and irritable that we didn’t say anything, and tipped $ 2 because if the service was any indication of how badly that server’s day was going, I guess he needed it. I’ve been here before and wasn’t impressed by the food. Solidly mediocre, but cute spot. Operating under the«if you can’t say something nice…» principle, I never reviewed it. But this just pushed me over the edge. I’d rather drive a little extra and get some coffee at Wallace Station– at least I know I’ll get a full cup. I’ve spent half my life in the restaurant biz, both front and back of the house, and would never arbitrarily jip a customer like that. ARGH!

Quirk is situated in a very cute part of downtown Midway, and though there aren’t a ton of options to be found, this place did stand out. That’s saying something, considering that two of the neighborhoods best restaurants are on the same block. What made Quirk stand out? — Fun restored interior with nice salvation of original features(stamped tin ceiling, hardwood floors, picture rail, etc.) — Very affordable menu — Friendly staff that mean well, even if they don’t know much about wine — View of the passing by trains, though not too much noise If I ever find myself in Midway, KY again… well, nevermind… I’ll probably never find myself in Midway, KY again.
