A very fun and new experience in the Utah winter. We took the sleigh ride up to the Midway Ice Castles. I recommend this place to any one wanting to try something different, sitting through a ride in the beautiful snowy Utah mountains.

And for a second there I thought I was a cowboy… Rocky Mountain Outfitters does so many fun things in Heber Valley! Fly fishing, horse riding, snowmobile tours, whitewater rafting… all depending on the season. We opted for the tamest and most appropriate for our group… the Chuck Wagon Dinner. With threats of 80% percent chance of rain forecast for the day over the past week, the event operators kept on calling to see if we wanted to move to a non-mountainous secure location. My manager told them no. She said, «I paid to sing Kumbaya in the mountains and dammit that’s what we’re going to do!» Miracle? Yes, because not one drop of rain came down while it poured over at our hotel in Park City We got in the wagon. It was not a chuck wagon, it was a open top modern transport trailer pulled by two horses. Two horses pulling 20 people, that is boss. The horses marched us around Soldier Hollow for about 20 minutes, bringing us to the eatin’ place. Soldier Hollow was the Olympic event site in the 2002 Winter Games for Cross Country and Biathlon. We also passed this tiny wooden house in the middle of nowhere… Butch Cassidy stayed there! Dolly the Fiddler and a cowboy on a guitar serenaded us with country songs throughout the night. The ranch hands square danced with the ladies and taught us how to lasso(I just need a little more practice and I think I can catch some heffers). There was a campfire, steak, potatoes, dutch oven beans, salad, corn on the cob, and peach cobbler. The beer I was drinking? Chasing Tail Golden Ale. The married women were all swooning over one of the cowboys. The best line afterwards was, «Do you think he’s at least half our age?» I can’t say enough about the staff of Rocky Mountain Outfitters. Everyone there was friendly, entertaining and made our night a joy. If you’re in the Salt Lake City/Park City area and want to do something a little different with your group, whether it’s friends, family, or co-workers, a dinner in the mountains with clean and friendly cowboys can’t be beat. What would have made it perfect is if the Coyote Ugly girls were up here to serve the beer and wine. But what was the real star of the evening? Heber Valley. 150 year old trees, mountain skyline, lush green grass, streams and rolling hills. God, Heber Valley is one beautiful place.

We enjoyed a great horseback ride with Rocky Mountain Outfitters this past Autumn in Midway. The day was a little overcast but very pleasant for a horseback ride. The horses were well taken care and our guide, Ashley, was friendly and attentive. I’ve done these kinds of rides many times and this was one of my favorites. The trail through the mountains was beautiful and we had a terrific view as we got higher up, past the tree line. I would definitely encourage you to take the two hour ride, because you’ll get to ride further and see more of the beautiful Midway landscape. Make sure and tip your guide when you go. We’d love to come back for a horseback ride in the snow or a snowmobile trip!

SOAWESOME! Went on a late afternoon ride(probably 1.5hrs duration) for an excellent price. We were a group of adult women on a getaway girls weekend and this was definitely one of the highlights to an incredible Salt Lk City trip! Everyone was greeted, taught the ropes and assisted so warmly and smooth. All of us gals each rode our own horses(4 of us total) and had a guide in front leading the line and one in the back(single file line). The horseback ride was beautiful to say the least. It was a little challenging to our surprise — we thought it might be a little cheesy but it wasn’t at all! We were all treated as if we were friends of theirs who were just out on a ride w/them. The guides were very personable and helpful. Each of us walked away w/some useful horseback riding tricks too. I would recommend greatly this experience! It was terrific and I’m a hard critic :)

My kids and I went to check this place out, on the suggestion of the Worldmark resort we are staying at here in Midway. We drove up and spoke with Joe, who told us they were closing up for the day(it was after 5:00pm) but that we could come back the next day at 10:00 for a one-hour horseback ride. We arrived a little before 10:00 and it was starting to sprinkle(rain). The girls working there were just as sweet as could be, and they left it up to us if we wanted to brave the rain. We decided to go for it. Kelsey was our guide, and she was just a doll. She even went to her car and grabbed a jacket for one of my kids, and gave me another one they had in their office, since we were not dressed for rainy weather. We got all saddled up and off we went. My kids, two boys — 8&10, were a little nervous and asked a million questions. Kelsey was so patient, helpful and very informative! I asked her to take a picture of us, so she got us up to the pretties spot, hopped off of her horse and got us all lined up… and snapped a keepsake photo. She told us stories of old tales, as well as the history and showed us the Olympic training paths for the cross country skiiers. In fact, some of the trails we rode on were the tracks for the cross country events when they hosted the Olympics! The horses were very healthy, well cared for and very gentle. The views of the valley were breathtaking. We went in October and got to see some of the most gorgeous Fall leaves I’ve ever seen! We can’t wait to return for some other fun activities they offer in the Winter! This was a highlight of our trip! Something my kids will never forget…
